  1. The scope attaches to the reciever so you may get shifting point of impact by changing the barrel. Also, from a legal point of view getting authority for an extra barrel is exactly the same as getting authority for another rifle so you aren't really making it any easier from that point of view.
  2. i know a guy who has 4 .22lr and 2 .243 all with a different loading action think it might be down to your feo on the day. The thing that you have to remember is that the only thing that counts when the police come to a decision on your application is the law. Nothing else. The law requires you to demonstrate 'good reason' for possessing/purchasing/acquiring each firearm you apply for. The fact that you have another identical one is not really the point, although it may demonstrate that you do not have good reason for the subsequent one. That is not a given though and the police cannot
  3. Ok so today is the day I think im going in to purchas Ruger M77 hawkeye predator .223 rem barrel length 22.00" overall length 42.00" twist 1:9"RH can sum1 help me as to what is the highest grain this gun would shoot possible up to 75grain or am I wrong. Probably, I forget what rate of twist you need to stabilise the very heavy bullets but it will need to be at least that. I think some of them need something as fast as 1:7" but not totally sure on that score. J.
  4. If you look closely at the slowed down footage you can see that there are two shots. He does it by using his thumb and a finger, I think. The thumb cocks the hammer the first time and the middle finger gets it again for the second shot which is why he can do it with only one pass of his hand which makes it very, very fast. Also, the gun is not standard as all the internal parts are very highly polished to reduce any friction to almost zero and the springs are changed for much lighter ones so the effort put into operating the gun is far less. Still, very, very impressive though! J.
  5. What he says! Lurchers, I see you are in Durham. Check out the link in my sig and shout me if interested in the club.
  6. Further developments. The full-bore section has now been formed into a separate club; Tyne Valley Rifle Club The club is Home Office approved and NRA affilliation is due through this week. The club also has it's own RFD in relation to ammunition sales. Current membership fee is £60+VAT (£72). Our shooting dates for this year are here; Calendar We are waiting on a couple of dates for February being confirmed and others may be added during the year to fill gaps. All dates are subject to change as military training takes precidence over civillian clubs. Anyone with a
  7. Just burn it in the garden. As long as you keep it away from anything combustible you'll be fine. J.
  8. The current system of paper certs is a massive and totally unwarranted security compromise. The current cert has your name and address on it aloing with all the guns you possess and even has a picture of you on it. To cap all of this it's even sent out in a window envelope which allows anyone to see the words "Firearm/Shotgun Certificate" on the actual cert. Given the state of modern technology, I see no reason why an FAC can't simply be a plastic card with nothing on it at all. Dealers could have swipe machines for reading the cards data and acquisitions and dispositions of guns and ammo
  9. Vihtavouri N-140 is probably a good powder to use for both. J.
  10. They've got very fast with simple variations recently. Apparently they are filtering all of them out and doing them as soon as possible so they don't get stuck in the 12+ week backlog. The department is still understaffed though (not the fault of those working there) and needs more people. J.
  11. It's for the certificate rather than each individual gun. YOu get a visit when you apply and every five years on renewal. It's so they can check your security mostly but also so they can judge whether you are person who's "fit to be entrusted" with a firearm. J.
  12. I have Varget on back order for people - nightmare. J.
  13. I have to disagree. From a legal point of view it is very specific. If they prosecute you they have to show that you have acquired something for which you do not have an FAC. If you have an FAC which says ".22Rim-Fire" the court will ask only two questions; "Is this a .22?" and; "is this a rimfire?". If you are possessing a .22WMR on a .22RF authority then how could you possibly be convicted of unlawful possession as it's a .22 cal and is a rim-fire? In fact, if it's an offence to possess a .22WMR on a .22RF authority, then surely so would it be to possess a .22LR, or a .22 Short, or a .2
  14. I have had a .22 Hornet on a slot which says ".22 rifle" for probably 12+ years. I can't see any offence that I'm commiting by doing so. J.

  16. If your cert says ".22 Rim-fire" then you can acquire any .22 RF firearm. You may be told that that you can only acquire a .22lr but how can that be true? What are you going to be charged with? The only thing is an offence under Sec.1 relating to possession or acquiring. If you have a slot which says ".22RF" then how can you be convicted of acquiring a .22RF?
  17. You can buy/acquire/possess anything that is a .22RF with this authority. J.
  18. If she got an FAC and if all the guns were on both certs there wouldn't be a problem. J.
  19. The problem is that a humane dispatcher is still a firearm (unless it's a captive bolt gun) so you are still subject to the "fitness to be entrusted with a firearm" criteria reagrdless of your "good reason" for possession. Whether you are fitted to be entrusted depends very much upon the nature of the things you've done and, importantly, whether you are likely to get into the same sort of bother again. Without knowing the specific details it's difficult to advise. Also, just because something isn't "official", like a caution or a conviction, doesn't mean it can't be taken into account. So,
  20. theres was one at Nobottle, on the Althorpe Estate, iused to ferret there in the 70s,i think its still going, Thanks for that. I've found pics of that place; Nobottle range It appears to be disused. Do you know whether that was an MoD range or a private one? Do you know who owns it at present? Cheers, J.
  21. A query on behalf of someone in the area. Are there any MoD ranges in the area, or within sensible traveling distance, of the Northampton/Towcester locality? Any clubs that use them? J.
  22. Yep, no problem. You FAC is your authorisation to "Possess, purchase or acquire". It matters not how you actually acquire it and the dealer commits no offence by simply giving you it, and nor would anyone else, for that matter. It would be pointless even making it an offence for him to do so as all he would need to to to get round it would be to sell you it for a 1p and you would have purchased it. J.
  23. Easy, make one and put it on a slot on your FAC. Okay, sensibly; the requirement to put a mod on FAC is just so much bull. I mean, who cares if you alrady have an FAC for the gun to begin with? I see no purpose at all as to why mods and flash-hiders need to be controled. Has there even been a crime committed which couldn't have been committed without a mod? I doubt it personally. A mod is nothing more than a piece of safety equipment and the Health and Safety at Work regs basically require you to use one if it's at all practical to do so. It's especially pointless as you don't need any ext
  24. Hey Ric, well i may be jumping the gun a little (pardon the pun) i just want to get some bits "sorted". I mainly want Lapua as its the dogs really (from what ive read), and should in theory last longer than others. As for shooting factory, i was thinking of getting some Prvi to start..... as it will be a 1/10 twist bullet weights should be in the 170-200 grains. So i would try PPU Prvi for around 50-60 squids per 100! Thats a cheap way to get range time just a heads up prvi 308 doesnt chamber in every rifle so dont buy 100 to start.Ive seen it in a brand new remy 700sps and a brand new
  25. I can do you brand new stuff for - off the top of my head - £45.50/100. Need to check my list later though but that's within pennies think. Unless you've personally fired it you don't know if its really "once fired" or "many tims fired". J.
