  1. Well I am afraid that not everyone understands it that way, some people seem to think shooting a fox is some kind of sin punishable by summary execution, only a dog may harm a hair on his noble head,I completely agree that all animals should be left to breed and I certainly don't shoot any until the cubs are fending for themselves, for fear of shooting a vixen with cubs at milk,of course nobody wants to see an end to the fox, least of all me,and I wish the hunting ban could be repealed tomorrow, and as for lurchers well I love them and I can say hand on heart that I can train to a very high stand
  2. I am not sure but the chap I am getting my male from next weekend may have a female left, get in touch if you would like me to enquire, he is Manchester way, or try Dean Britton mid Glamorgan, 01433 755202, he has some lovely reds.
  3. It would appear that I have upset one of the chavs I mentioned earlier, and got an abusive pm now if you have something to say MACKY please grow a pair and say it for us all to hear, but of course you wont you are not clever enough to join in a debate are you, now run along sonny
  4. Plectrum for me, I make my own out of curved plastic from a motorbike mudguard and a cut down .17 hmr shell case, pop riveted and glued on, nice and light, I like to fit a tail bell as well as the transmitter and just cant help feeling that it is just a little too much weight ror one feather to support, but I could be wrong of course, each to their own way.
  5. Me none, I have some other permissions where they are not really a nuisance and probably do more good than harm in the long run,I was watching 3 cubs the other night, and a splendid sight it always is,and I agree with you totally on the genes thing, but one comment must be added, nature does not like a vacuum and when a fox is shot, it does not take long for his boots to be filled.
  6. All that needs to be done to a Weatherby/Howa trigger is to take a small amount of metal from the face, an hone/polish it then it will be a very fine crisp trigger, it is not hard to do yourself plenty of info on the net, but it must be done safely (obviously) so if you are not confident get a gunsmith to re work it, or you can of course get a trigger kit which is what I think you are reffering to, they are not bad standard, once you have adjusted it down to about 3lbs, and I get on fine with mine.
  7. I did not say there were no foxes, what I said is that we were not seeing them in the areas we normally do,and I can assure you I am not complaining about the lack of foxes, and the landowner certainly isn't,and as for a close season, well do you think the foxes observe a close season on the hens and a couple of dozen duck taken over the last year or two? and as for rabbits I have not shot a rabbit on this farm for 3 years, in an effort to give them a chance, their demise is down to brock pure and simple, disgruntled dog man or not you must understand that fox control in some areas is a necessit
  8. Hi Rick, sorry I cant help you with the mentoring, but Dorset is a bit far from me,now as far as a mentor is concerned even with one the police will not (I doubt) grant you an open cert so that you can shoot ground not passed for your calibre, instead you would be restricted to land passed up to in your case .308 and only in the presence of said mentor, now you basically have two choices here,I assume you have ground to shoot deer available to you? You state your ground is no good for .308 so what calibre if any is the ground passed up for? Have you checked this? what the police are saying is t
  9. Nikon everytime mate, they are light years away from the MTC trust me it will be the best decision you will make this year.
  10. Go for the Monarch mate awesome glass, just as good as my mates S+B, trigger job 30 quid at a decent riflesmiths mate, good choice.
  11. Oooh do be careful you might upset the dog lads, its close season don't you know if you get stuck mate I will come and sort it for you, if you don't get anyone round the corner so to speak, I am only in Sheffield

  13. Good choice mate, but my advice on scopes would be have a look at the Nikon range, I have one on my .243, and they are superb optics, even the prostaff, after using a Nikon I am now a big fan, and lets not forget they make some of the best cameras in the world, you wont go wrong with a Nikon/Weatherby combo mate.
  14. Sure, a litter of cubs will eat a lot of snap, but there are quite a few chicken keepers and rabbit hutches to help themselves too, plus a couple of takeways and shops not far away, so I think they will do ok.
  15. spade and a hole mate is the best way if you cant hedge them.
  16. Wow! How much are the federal factory rounds Charlie caller? How much does it cost to reload as well? Per shot that is. Cheers, Mitch I have not bought any factory loads for a while mate, but 20 ish quid for twenty, I recon I can reload .243 for about 35 pence per bang, so .223 will be a little cheaper, say 30 pence, you will not go wrong with a Weatherby/Howa mate, best value rifles in the country.
  17. Spot on advice there mate get the gun to a rfd Now then explain to the police about it, Ithink you are far more likely to meet with sympathy, than if you let apathy rule and wait for a knock at the door, DO IT NOW.
  18. I take your point but its not town its nice suburbia surrounded by parkland and then more countryside, and I am pretty certain if they were I would know about it, no I think the answer lies in the fact that the foxes have bred in a different part of the valley this year,so that would explain the lack of cubs, and the adult foxes are just not around at the minute, I have seen similar patterns before, and then all of a sudden they are back,it was just a lack of them on the hay fields where we normally see a lot that was puzzling me.
  19. I wonder how many other narcissists have said the same throughout history? there you go a new word to google for you.
  20. Well I shot a lot of foxes on that farm last year certainly into the late twenties,so I doubt OVER population is the issue here.
  21. So go on then explain how the chap on the stalking directory who describes very similar symptoms to the op, had his extractor blown off his bolt then? Do you suppose that was caused by mud, or his moderator failing then? No it was caused by the bullet from the first shell lodging in the barrel, just like this instance, what the op said was he pulled the trigger, he heard a click, and having the good sense to keep the rifle pointing in a safe direction, then heard a dull report, then smoke poured out of his chamber, that is not a MISFIRE, that is a HANGFIRE, and one of the first safety lessons y
