I had two in the snares ,when i arrived in the morning it was white all over and there was a brisk north wind hitting the bank ,we tried our luck the other side of the bank with the ferrets ,we had a steady morning ,with only three digs ,and ended up in my lads pub were we swopped 34 rabbitsfor two pints of ruddles bitter, he cooks them up,and flogs them for 9 1/2 quid a portion [1rabbit=2 portions ]so ithink we got a good deal

I dont think these men are cowards, i was attacked by a bull once ,i was in a bad way for a few weeks, and off work for over 6 months,i think its a brave man who gets up close to one.

This morning i was going to set some snares and bodygrips along a railway line in leicestershire, however when i arrived at the site there were tractors and trailers all over the place,so i had a word with the boss ,and said i would come back next week then i could have the place to my self.I then drove a couple of miles up the road to where iam going ferretting on friday, just for look ,and to pick afew bluelegs, while iwas there i thought i would set a few snares on a rough bank that ran the lenth of a huge field of wheat that was about 2 inch high, the bank was covered in runs but it was hard

JUBEY WAS THE BAST RABBIT TRAP If thats right mate ,why arnt people still using them?
-
How could the imbra rabbit trap be improved and brought back into production,i have a few, and find that in my case they are better than fenns for rabbits, surely there must be a small engineering works thats chasing work that would make few thousand as a trial run ,if there is a ready market for inferior fenn and bodygrip type traps, surely theres a market for a genuine article at the right price. micky

I once had a collie greyhound cross that stalked ,she started when she was about 2,odd ones at first, but once she had started it got worse and worse, she would lope up to a squatter walk abit then stand, one ear erect jaws agape drooling, she even took to crouching down in front of them. Idont think there is a cure for it ,its in the strain, for all her faults she was a very good dog ,ijust learned to live with it ,and work around it.

We took a chap ferreting last Friday ,he was ,he had not been ferreting for 50 odd years,we done a canal bank and had a very good morning, while i was gutting the rabbits into the cut ,he told me ,him and his mate used to set gate nets , on the bridges of this canal in the early 50s, then walk the fields off,one night they caught 9 hares and a rabbit,he said they flogged the lot to a butcher in Market Harborough for 50 bob ,they then went on the piss for two days. happy days .

I can remember beating on my grandpas shoot in the 50s and deer were often killed with shotguns, i never liked to see it though. what year did become illeagle? micky

Not in these parts mate, [Leicestershire] there worth next to nothing, there are some very big shoots were i live and i know most of the keepers, they all say the same thing, the markets carnt accept the volume of game that that these shoots produce on a weekly basis. They say in the next few weeks the market will be flooded with game fetching next to nothing, but they are still under pressure to produce more and more. Micky

When i used to catch a lot of rabbits i never cut the back leg pushed the other through, iallways use bailler twine, its quicker and less hassle for me,however 50 odd years ago when i went with my grandpa and his mates we allways did ,the two cuts were called HOCKING and HARLING,Does anyone else remember these terms if so which was which. micky

My eldest lad and i went ferreting on some new land last friday, when we arrived we saw the farmer had dug hundreds of yards of new ditches on the other side of the hedgerows, one of the reasons for doing this was to break up ,and expose some massive old rabbit warrens, its the second time ihave come across this in leicestershire in a month ,is it something new ? or just new to my county.

Markbrick writes a good topic about lamping and is then gagged because he fights his corner. However stupid topics such as "how do you wipe your arse" which was posted yesterday by Scottishlass attracted no comment from the moderator
-
Now that TBF has effectively denied Markbrick the right to reply, can we look forward to more thrilling hunting topics the same as the one that was posted yesterday at 11.45am on how to wipe your arse

If you like it that much ,why dont you find someone who could fix you up with a dose ,TOP FUN

how often do you get out?i know we all got differant circumstances
micky replied to a topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I had 30 years of lamping,i was addicted to it,it must have cost me thousands in days off work and fuel, iwould go anywhere ,at any time ,[moon and weather permitting],i had some very good bags of rabbits and sometimes no rabbits, but i allways enjoyed it.Then one day compleatly out of the blue it turned into work, and that was that.Iam now addicted to snareing, and thats much worse.Just to set the cat among the pidgeons the best dogs for lamping in my opinion, are bedlington or collie greyhound crosses,no dog will catch a 100 rabbits in a night , and todays lamps are to bright.micky. -
Melton Market ,or try Fur and Feather,[if its still printed].

Bells get full of shit and go DUNG

All of mine worked perfectly well when i first bought them ,so the problem has come through use, everything is the size and shape it should be so the cause of the fault is in the trap frame. Nice pictures. Micky

Yes John they are ,they were bought from a reputable dealer, the safety will not swing off, ihave a few fenn M4s and the build quality is much better than the M6s Micky

Once the Mk 6 is set to the catch position (IE the trigger is engaged into the trap plate).....the safety catch should just be able to flip off.......i can't see how you are having a problem........got any pictures? Rolfe Sorry no pictures ,it seems the trap frame moves forwards causing the safety to jam tight when under tension, I thought this was a common problem? You are sure you have engaged the trigger into the plate.........and it's not just being held by the safety catch? Positive

What is the correct way to adjust the safety catch on fenn 6s, i have a few traps that will not let you release the catch once the trap is set. Micky

What's the going rate for stone work these days, £60 a metre? Varies massively according to your region and what sort of stone you are building the wall from, but generally more than that, I' m afraid. Micky and Rolfe- maybe I should be trying to get permission in that part of the county- I' m about twenty miles away, and we only really get small numbers in little hedgerow warrens round here. you can allways try mate, if you dont ask you dont get

Yeah......I know Holcot and the surrounding area well.........I was at the Steam Rally the other day........I live virtually bordering the Althorp Estate........ The golf club is one of my pest control contracts. I lamped and ferreted all over the Althrop estate in the 7os,me and the late jim chambers had some very good bags there,in Febuary 77 we ferreted 100+on two consecutive days at Harpole and Nobottle,it was alive with rabbits all around that area then, whats it like now?
