  1. As was driving down a fen road near Boston Lincs early this morning,i saw a dead hare on the grass verge,it did,nt seem bashed about so i stopped to pick it up,when i looked closer ,i saw she was wearing a snare, which had been snapped or bitten. over the years i have ferreted three rabbits with broken snares round there necks and two years ago i snared one that had a snare on it
  2. I had just pulled up this morning when a bird flew into the wing mirror,it was a chaffinch ,ipicked it up and placed it on the garden wall.Half an hour later i was sat in my bedroom, waiting for a rabbit or pidgeon for the ferrets ,it came back to life and started to attack the mirror,we watched for ten mins and then my mrs went out and covered the mirrors ,the bird flew into the tree across the road and glared at her,as i write this it is now attacking the mirror on her jeep
  3. No matter how fast a fish may swim, you will never see a fuccer sweat.
  4. Aye ditch is right. These look ok, but for one thing I know that these are 8 strand, that's a handicap right away, they are also quite expensive. PM geordie he'll make you some with six strand 22 1/2" wires on them, that's what the pros on here use. Thanks to their advice that's what I now use too and they're the business. Read Glenn and Woodga's articles, they know their stuff mate. there fence fence wires ,peg snares are 24 inchs A 7 1/2" by 5 1/2" loop only needs 20 1/2"of snare anyway micky, and I don't suppose an inch and a half divided by pi would matter to a bunny. I used to c

  6. I think over the next few years you will see the banning of any form of snaring in the UK,quickly followed by traps that kill anything other than rats and mice,as compensation for this the powers that be, will probably give us a new updated strain of dixi ,as the old one is weakening a little. Just my opinion ,but thats way we seem to be heading.
  7. In truth snares can be set anywhere from 4 to 6.5 inches high and they will still catch rabbits, depending on location and ground cover conditions. As a general rule setting towards the higher end will produce most catches. It all comes down to experience at the end of the day. As with all trapping, you must experiment until you find the setting height that works for you. Rolfe. I had a few this morning from Uppingham, they were caught at 7 inch, including two not quite half grown.
  8. In the early 70s i did lot of lamping around Peterborough/Huntingdon area, from late November till the end of the season you would hear guns popping away all night.Once i was gutting rabbits into a pond at Warmington three blokes walked straight into us,they were all loaded up with birds and were using a 4.10 with a large home made silencer
  9. I dont think frost is a factor as to whether rabbits bolt well or not, wind is, frost aint.
  10. If there was no red tape, what would you trap ,and what would you trap it with?

  12. Look at the pen and ink drawings by G.S.W. in the snaring section ,you will learn more there than any film ,or book.
  13. theres an article in todays Leicester Mercury ,about a rottweiler that ripped a womans arms off. It happened at Knightwood kennels near Salisbury
  14. How would the keeper know people were poaching because of black rabbits Steve caught one the lamping other year, and this year where we have been ratting we saw a black rat... i really want to catch that Moll. A black rabbit ,or white pheasant ,was a marker,if you had,nt seen them for a day or two ,you would assume someone/something was working your beat .micky.
  15. I would like to see virgins reintroduced to Leicestershire
  16. I took 24 snared rabbits to a local game dealer recently, one being black, I said there's a black one amongst them. The man said, there all the same to me, the bad lucks on you, you killed the minister. Fathom what you will from that. Its the parson down this way.
  17. I thought the sale of wild geese was illegal ? In principle you are correct but I was of course referring to the likes of captive bread Canadain Geese. Totally legal, I forget sometimes that a lot of you guys see a load more geese than I do here. Canada Geese everywhere here but that's about it. I've never sold one anyway so to keep everyone happy I'll edit the post and remove Goose...OK! Do you rear Candian geese ,Deker?

  19. On sunday morning i set a few bodygrips along a wire fence close to were i live ,first thing on monday i checked the traps, the first two were set close together.[one in a hollow stump run through ,the other in a grass roofed burrow under the fence] the trap in the root had a stoat in it ,the other a rabbit,Both had been instant kills, and i reset the traps and moved on,when i returned 15 mins later the trap that caught the stoat had caught a rabbit. Can i deduce from this that the very pungent musky smell of stoats is not that off putting for rabbits? micky
  20. theres been a BIG FISH caught today, but the topic has been deleted, WHYS THAT THEN?
  21. Before light pollution and traffic noise the old boys used to say the first and last two hours of darkness were best.Me and my mate used to go when the pub shut, but we were only playing at it.
  22. Its been very bad in Leicestershire,i thought they were over it in october, and there were lots of late litters, but i have been out tonight just to show my face ,shot two with dixi and came home.I have some good land in Northamtonshire and Lincolnshire and its just as bad there.
  23. Is it? God, I'd love to see it. Trouble is; I don't have a tv! I s'pose, when ye think about it, Oli; Most of us are so programmed to using Fenn's now that the BG will take some getting used to. Just like the Fenn did, post Gin. I can see a whole, new generation of trappers lauding nothing but the BG. Like ye indicate though; We really do need to sort out the support methods side of things. That, get some decent Setters more readily available and some forms of safety devices. Fiddly f*cking things and I imagine they must hurt like hell! i use trail legs to stablise my traps
