  1. i've used this one over 50 years ,its had a few new shafts and i bust it again a few days back,my grandpa gave a waterboard worker a hare for it all those years ago ,i must have dug thousands of rabbits with it ,hope to get it down to the size of a tea spoon ,before i shoot through.
  2. was he the greatest ? i thought so ,who could have beaten him in his prime.
  3. there was when i gutted em
  4. seven of them were does ,all were ready to pop,i wont bother ferreting here again this season as the sets are in sand and canbe very deep, its local to me though, so i will continue snaring them for a couple more weeks,i shall carry on ferreting in the east of the county ,the soil there is clay ,much colder than where i live,i was over there last week ,and the does are only just starting to show
  5. i done a set today i normally leave be ,its in some deep sand thats covered in thorn bushes ,its best to do this place after a snowfall but i done it this morning because i could not get a peg in the ground anywhere else,i netted the first set up ,about 25 holes, and slung in , within seconds the ground erupted ,there was rabbits everywhere,in nets ,running round ,even the dog, had one in its gob, after a couple of minutes it went quiet ,then one more bolted with both of the girls stuck on its napper ,that was enough for me ,eight rabbits and another four or five had it away on there toes
  6. you dig ,when you have to dig ,no one likes to dig all the time ,but when you do ,you just have to get on with it ,whats macho about it ?
  7. these two made £40 two weeks ago .On the same day i had a few rabbits in ,they made 17 bob apiece
  8. Like Tomo ,i've had all sorts, bucks and does ,big and little, my take on the question is ,if they don't kill ,they ain't much good, i think a good killer will get stuck in and shift rabbits , them slow plodders seem to wander round the top layer of a set and bolt stuff by bumping into them , a good ferret will get down into the guts of a set and give some stick out, how many times have people been out ,tried a so called good ferret in a set ,see it bolt nothing, then try a proven killer ,and bolt two or three, out of the same set , i know i have ,this time of the year ,the rabbits are starting
  9. in a season , iwill go ferreting 4/5 times a week ,in each session i will have at least two digs ,this brings in about ten extra rabbits a week , or around forty rabbits per month ,my season lasts five months, this gives me about two hundred extra rabbits a season ,i think the numbers are low ,but i am trying to show ,how the numbers stack up ,now think , how much time i would have wasted waiting for ferrets ,or digging blind.
  10. these pair made £40 last tuesday, the man who bought them was coat blind, before those two went on the block ,two cracking white jills made £4 apiece ,as the man said, melton tues, get there before 9.45.am <a href="http://s876.photobucket.com/albums/ab325/mickypip/?action=view&current=Picture022.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab325/mickypip/Picture022.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

  12. both my grandfathers were life long ferreters, they were netting rabbits rabbits before the first world war and continued up to the 1970s , now these two lads never claimed to know everything, but most people who knew them ,would say, they knew a bit. When i first took them out using my new ferret locator ,some time in the mid 60s they both thought that, they were the best thing to come out since sliced bread, now these two lads were very old fashioned in there ways ,they both thought the way things were done in the 1800s was good enough for the 1960s ,well after that first morning all those
  13. thats it mate I was having a play with my new camera, and i put that picture up for no particular reason ,but it just gooes to show the importance of marker pins.
  14. the soil conditions in the ground dictate the codition a rabbit will be in after its cought ,, not the fact its been dug.... i have bolted rabbits that have been filthy,,, because of the soil yousualy being very wet,,,, hell ive even bolted rabbits with water running out of some lower down holes,, however ferrets can be very reluctant to enter such places, and who can blame them. in very dry sandy conditions like this dig was, why shouldnt it come out clean.. heres two gingers from one warren a few year back . this was the warren under a licolnshire stone wall i'am su

yeh i liked haggler,, i still dont think he lost to lennard, mind he gave lennard evrything he wanted. and for max,, i think haggler would have beat calzagie had they met in there prime at the same weight...........then again i am biased, as i have met haggler , a real nice fella a few years back i built some houses for a bloke named Alan Moore ,he was married to Tony Sibbos sister Karen, they live d close to you Tomo, and the rest of the family lived at Widmerpool, well we used to run a sweep on sibbos fights ,it was a fiver a man and you wrote down ,who would win,and what round ,well ala
