  1. Leicestershire. Nice mate, my misses lived in leicester for a bit, and there is some lovely country up there, i always wondered if it held many rabbits, there seemed to be plenty of deer about. No blue legs this time? Loads of blue legs down here,i've had my fill of them ,i just leave them in the fields now, one of my lads sold a load of them to a man in Brum last week,he took £4 a kilo ,made a pot of dough for a couple of hours work.
  2. i was out this morning with my eldest lad on a local farm ,theres always a lot of rabbits on this place ,a but there is still a lot of cover ,the first set we done at the side of a bridge,we had ten out of that then we moved on to a long set in a hedgerow, the three girls flew through this set netting another nine ,then killing one,it was only a foot down ,and all the ferrets were on it, so we quit that set while we were ahead the dog marked a two holer in a sheep field ,we netted it up then watched three rabbits bolt out of a unnetted hole about ten yards out into the field ,my

  4. its a probe, you use it when you have allmost dug down to a kill ,you then push it through the soil to find the tube, they can save a lot of digging, makes a good walking stick and i allways carry rabbits on them too.
  5. the first set we done this morning was a cracker, about ten holes ,ferrets in ,six out in double quick time we then moved up the hedge ,the sets here were overgrown but well used,we had two out of that one ,but lost three, moved on a bit , passing some good, but overgrown sets ,before doing a ten holer that was not to hard to get at ,two bolted straight away then they killed ,normally the digging here is easy ,but the ground is that dry, you have to chip your way through ,about an hour later i broke through and my lad pulled out a dead rabbit and two ferrets ,there wa

  8. went out friday with my eldest lad, we were late getting there as we had to leave the car and walk to the hill, as we were walking up there was a lot of rabbits running into the sets when we do these sets we purse net the top and put a long net across the bottom the ferret soon had a few moving ,bolting 5 then killing in ,we had a hard four foot dig and pulled out two ferrets and a dead rabbit the other ferret came up after bolting two more rabbits that went back down other holes ,i picked her up and called it a day as i had to be elsewhere at dinnertime <a href="htt
  9. had a little time to spare this morning so i went across the road to do a small 5 hole set, three bolted straight away ,then the ferret nailed one, while i was digging to it, another one bolted and pulled the peg out ,the dog caught that one as it ran by her ,anyway ,my hour was up and i had a long hundred yard walk back to my house,

    market day

me and the Mrs went melton market today, there was not that much in ,but it was nice to see some old friends about 30 ferrets in, last week they made 50 pence this week i saw the last box with three jills make £45. plenty of bluelegs in as we were leaving an old boy i know gave my Mrs a few birds, she can pluck them,i done four yesterday.
  12. ,I was out yesterday with my eldest lad on a local farm,we started on some hedge sets but left them alone after doing one, as there was still far to much cover,we moved on to the hillside were there are some huge rabbit warrens but not having enough kit with us we stayed on the bottom and done a couple of 40-50 holers,we had three very hard digs but the rabbits were bolting well, i had to leave at 12 but before we left i called at the farm house and gave Joe a bag of bluelegs,he ,in return gave me two brace of pheasants ,then the local copper pulled in and begged half a dozen rabbits , so ev

  14. i was out this morning with one of my lads, the first set we done we lost two rabbits withing seconds,my lad left me to dig while netted up further down the hedge ,the ground was rock hard and it took me nearly an hour to get down to about two foot ,i broke through and found a red faced ferret, and a very dead rabbit ,as i pulled them out the dog was down the hole with her tail wagging ,i got my hand in and pulled out three more, a hard start to a good morning.
  15. i was asked to kill some rabbits that were living on a patch of rough land in a field across the road from my house ,normaly i like to snare these rabbits as its only a couple of minutes away ,and easy to check at first light, but the old boy wanted them gone so it was an outing for the ferrets,my lad and me put two nets around the set then stuck the three youngh jills in,rabbits were soon moving but not hitting the nets, my lad heard one squeal near his foot and a 6inch gave us number one,ten rabbits hit the nets and three more were dug, one rabbit then leapt out of a hole with a ferret stuc
  16. You could have got the kid cammo gloves aswell, to make the full ensomble !! LOL !! Cheers. Tomo works that bit of land now , if i was to write down what we ferreted there in a week .or even the full season ,i doubt any one on here would believe it ,same with lamping ,we made some great bags ,but without a picture ,it means next to nothing.
  17. i would love to put some pictures up of what me and this fellah knocked over
  18. i catch a couple every year in traps set for rabbits, near my house there are a lot nice looking sets ,though they look good and theres allways a lot of rabbits about, they are impossible to ferret, every year some of the local lads creep on and give it a go ,what they dont know is ,after two foot of top soil theres twenty foot of wire fencing, cars ,tin sheets ect, ferrets will get hooked up, tucked up or take a long time finding there way, out and then into a fenn or bodygrip thats been set in the fence, last year i caught one in a rabbit snare ,this one went to a mate in Norfolk and i have a doe
  19. dont bother, set them in the morning, then any scent will gone before dusk, setting height and placement are more important, parsely is better on fish than snares.
