  1. As far as a Chessie being able hold it's own with hogs I'd say certainly, they've got the heart . The only thing they're lacking is legs under 'em and the ability to work under heat as is common in pig country . Hunting hogs is hot work. That being said , I don't personally use 'catch' dogs . Have friends that do and we hunt together quite a bit. But when hunting on my own , I'm perfectly happy to just have a bay and do the wet work myself .
  2. I like 'em... good hog and working cattle dog.
  3. Weird...I've taken snipe and found them to be the same size as our mourning doves. So I dressed them out the same way. Love to hunt and eat snipe.
  4. Why the insistence on leaving the guts in ? Nasty ...
  5. I see nothing has changed here
  6. Overall, it was a run to examine the survivability of a 'ditch' from a re-entering space craft at that altitude. So essentially what you had heard. Alot of variables that would've had to be added into it ,too., but it's a start.
  7. That sounds way better...and I thought about the grains thing later when I was off on a walk . But by then , I had lost my ambition for physics. 105,000 ft/lbs ?! That'd leave a mark.
  8. Too right... so it's settled then. A 218 lb man going 176 feet per second only lands with 15 foot lbs of force which is very survivable . What now, Felix Baumgartner ? !
  9. Vixen, not sure about one or two; although this was all done with private funds. So that's good. As far as number 3, see my post on the previous page. Gaza, the balloon deflated and came back down from what I heard.
  10. Lord... Everybody knows the dinosaurs died in the great flood cause they were to damn big to get on the Ark. It's simple science ,really.
  11. Meteorites generally burn up, though. No ? That's why we have see 'falling stars' .
  12. So , now to get down to the balls of this. energy=weightXvelocityXvelocity/450240 Felix's weight (218) X 176 fps squared /450240 That gives us Felix's muzzle energy of when he would've walloped into Earth at.... hell I don't know. Don't have a calculator handy.
  13. All right now to get to the good stuff... Felix weighs 168 lbs. . That doesn't seem like alot . Even though he's Austrian , he has been in the States training for this , so figure he put on the obligatory 20 lbs for the Yank standard . Puts him at 188 . Plus an additional ,say, 30 for the suit and gear . He's now at 218 lbs. It's a simple formula: energy=weightXvelocityXvelocity or E=MC^2, where E is energy, M is mass, and C is velocity. It's the mass of the bullet times the velocity squared. So we figure Felix like a bullet using terminal velocity.
  14. Yip thats my view on it.............another pointless f*****g task from these space freaks!! Read on, you might learn something useful instead for a change instead of filling your brain with pish like X factor and big brother.. One of the physicans that was a part of the research team was a guy by the name of Dr. Jonathon Clarke . His wife was Patricia Clarke , was one of the astronauts who died when the space shuttle, Columbia , disintegrated upon re-entry into the atmosphere. Roughly, the same altitude that Baumgartner jumped from . Dr. Clarke was also on the research team that studie
  15. I know some guys who had it when it was still a wildcat round. Still prefer my .19 Badger and .19 Calhoon over it; but that's a pretty narrow field for preference.
  16. I would volunteer my services as Scotland's Naval Chief of Staff ... in about 3 years after I've retired from the US Navy and from my civilian career as I'm not sure how much being an Admiral in Scotland's Navy would pay. Admiral's gotta eat ,after all. I don't think they would want a yank mate, if it kicks off they at least want a chance of winning !! Lol lol Only pulling ya leg ! That'd be easy I'd just call the Canadians for help

  18. A friend of mine makes bratwurst out of his.... From my pal Tim... My brats are pretty common. I take 15lbs of goose or sometimes duck meat and make sure there is no steel shot in it and grind it up. I then take the LEM Cajun Brat mix (cost $5) and mix that in with the meat along with 4-5lbs of pork fat. I get the butcher to take the 'pork ends' and grind them up for me. Mix that all up and run it through the stuffer into brats. For some reason my brats want to split open if I cook them too hot. I use indirect heat on the grill w wood and charcoal. They also pan fry up real good to
  19. If you don't care for the strong taste , marinade the breast filets for a couple of hours in a 50/50 mix of beef broth and Worstershire sauce and then grill or whatever.
  20. I shoot for fur and wouldn't use FMJ's . Alot better options that are available. I love match grade Berger bullets. They expand routinely inside the chest cavity , almost never an entry hole. All you get is a pencil sized entry ,no exit, and completely destroyed vital organs. With a .223 you have to play around with loads for awhile to get that on fox sized animals, but it's doable. But because it is a challenge to get those results with a .223, that's why I stick with .20 caliber centerfires and smaller. Pretty simple from then on. But a FMJ's are a poor choice. To unreliable and inconsisten
