    I don't doubt that for a second if your hunting traditional game in the UK and Ireland. If your're hunting game that doesn't exist to a great degree in either place one has to wonder if the dogs could be called workers.

    With all due respect that may be true in the GB, but it isn't everywhere. A good fox dog may not be worth spit on coon. And while I'd be happy to call that dog a worker on fox, he wouldn't be much of one for a man that hunted coon now would he, or does he catch a break due to lack of available game?

    Just doesn't seem to make much sense to try and convince a man who's dog is working out for him that his dog is in-fact no good. Especially when you'll likely never lay eyes on it, let alone breed to or get a pup off of it. People who work dogs either have them or know where to get them. It makes zero sense in my mind to degrade ANYONE actually responsibly using a dog. Far too many people take a "working dog" in as a pet because they like the idea of having one. I doubt anyone except the most inexperienced are going to go looking for a dog that will stay until dug too from a guy who's dogs are

    You can call your dog anything you like mate thats your choice., me I dont call em terriers til dug to, thats my choice.. lad i know keeps a dog, looks likes a terrier, acts like a terrier, chases rats an rabbits...wont go to ground tho.     More than likely it means that you've only worked terriers this way. Mister my hat is off to you, and I'm not making light of the task of a dog making a name for itself doing what you do. I'm truly sorry for your loss. This pissing contest rarely results in meaningful understanding of what these little dogs truly are, or what they are capable of. The measuring stick for what is or isn't a working terrier isn't found on the internet.     Sorry for your loss...But your view of a working terrier is just that, your view. I've put several in the ground this year, last year, the year before doing what they were bred to do. And I'll likely do the same NEXT year. I am not trying to deminsih the quality of your dog or the work it obviously did well. But I require more of a dog than just being about to work to ground. A one demensional dog isn't going to get the job done. Again I'm truly sorry for your loss...good ones are hard to come by.

    A working terrier for me has to have more than one tool in the box. I couldn't care less if he will stay until until dug to... if he can't locate, or follow at least simple commands. For me to keep one... it has to be an earth dog also. But that in itself won't earn him his keep. Dens aren't often out in the open. They usually lie under something. A working terrier has to be able to get the job done, and that may entail different things on different days.     A working terrier is the one that is doing what I need it to, be it fetching a dove I shoot, pulling coon from the briars and brush piles, working the rocks, or hunting hogs. If it's not... well it's not working. When folks start lining up to pay the feed bill... maybe I'll take requests. Untill then I say work your dog as you see fit.     This one ain't my best terrier yet.... But she's workin on it. She's got a ways to go and is only three at around thirteen and a half pounds. If she manages to live a couple of more seasons she'll make a name for herself. She nearly drew this coon three times and it's about nine or ten pounds heavier than she is. She isn't the hardest dog in the world and picks her shots. But if she can't get to the back of the head or the neck she'll go tooth to tooth. I like it that it ain't her first option. Black Betty

    I fed Fromm for a couple or three years. The dogs did VERY well on it. An eighth to a half a cup per day depending on the dog, with a little coconut oil and they held up in the Texas heat sometimes running in excess of fifteen miles. I give them whole red squirrell from time to time for a job well done. I switched to Victor a month or so ago because it's local. Time will tell if it was a good switch. If not.. it's back to Fromm.

    Here's an old bitch Illa I'll never forget. She was tough old dog that was a locating machine. I would take dead squirrells and bury them aways off and tell her to fetch. She would look for as long as it took, dig them up and retrieve them to hand. She hunted to ground and brushed all day long. Everything I asked of her she did and more, except come the last time I called her. She died at nine years old chasing Blue Herrons back and forth across a lake.     Interesting ..................i guess im questioning what qualities an ebt could stamp in on generations of quality breeding and reproduce.........i still cant see it myself whether it be physical or mental qualities i fail to see how or what an ebt could add to a good representative of a bulldog in any kind of athletic pursuit. I'm outside the box here, and can only guess that Jawn wants something with a jawline and head like gator, and bombproof with it, not overly agile, but like an anchor with teeth.     I guess I'd be hoping for a stout dog plenty durable that would drop the hammer on small game and hang on to a hog. But like I said I know next to nothing of EBTs. I'm hoping that what they say, is true about the mouth. I've been told Darby does some damage to a coons jaw... we'll see soon enough.

    Fair enough... At best it's a gamble with low odds of success based on a short term set of goals and realistic expectations.. I wouldn't likely breed the resulting crossed dog even IF it clicked, and the dog would likely die in the feild. Darby is a dog I'll hunt, not one I got to breed. But if some good ol boys that hunted with her decide they want some pups off of her I'd do it. As for the Eli EBT I could likely find a cur bred APBT that will do the trick, and I'm probably making it unnecessarily hard on myself but part of the fun is in trying new sht and hoping beyond reason.
