As most of you know; I have quite a big ferret court with all sorts of things in it to keep them busy. This evening I heard a strange noise and checked all of my ferrets; one was no where to be seen. After lost of searching i discovered that one of my hobs was stuck in the tubing I have leading into their feeding area. God only knows how long he'd been stuck but i had been in the court with them this morning and nothing was a miss. It was as if he was folded in half. He was still alive when I actually managed to get him out but he died on the way to the vets. Ive used 100mm drainage tubing for

Where are you based? What lines is he from and how old is he? Im defo interested if its not too far. -
In my experience, no. The first hob I ever had was castrated after his first season so he could be housed with the jills all year round. There was no change in his lust for work or his ability after the castration. Here he is after he was castrated.

This is how I learned to make nets, Dont expect to get it straight away, it takes time and practice...................Loads of practice. Does anyone near you make their own nets? It might be better for someone to sit with you while you make a net to let you know where your going wrong. Watch this. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/29086-new-purse-net-making-tutorial/

Thanks, here he is with his first ever rabbit last year!

Im keeping them all, Ive got the space so I might as well. Ive got two step children who play with them for hours every day so theyre dead tame, also, the youngest will be rabbiting with me every saturday and sunday as soon as my permission starts! Roll on October! Just means a few extra shifts at work to pay for the castration bill in spring!

Sounds a bit awful but throw water on him every time he howls. Mind you, mine are in kennels so its not like I soak the house when i throw water on them. After a week or so of the water treatment they never howled again.

Looks like a lovely dog. Good luck with him.

Shame about the terriers but good luck with the new dog. Have you seen it work?
-
Yes, at one point I did but i moved house and split with my partner, i had to sell that one and buy a new one to fit the yard. This one is 4 foot wide instead of 3 foot wide but isnt as tall as the last one. Having said that; there's still loads of room for them to get exercise but i'll always miss the last court.

My best working jill had 5 hob kitts in August. She ended up getting a kit stuck and it was a trip to the vets costing almost £300! Full hysterectomy later we had to hand rear them all. Now they are all thriving after weeks of getting up 4 times a night to feed them and having a rota through the day to do it! This is where they all slept And this is just a few pics of the ferret court. 'Daddy Cool' the proud jill who has helped to look after the kits although not the mother. Plans for the kits when they are old enough!

a question on behalf of someone else
jultaylor1972 replied to saxonmaster's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I agree with the people who say postmortem to know for sure. Its crap when stuff like this happens, Ive just had my best working jill at the vets recently. She has puss in uterus (Never heard of it before) but it cost me just under £300. Full hysterectomy later; she is fine, vet said it was touch and go but id already agreed to a post mortem if it hadnt worked out ok. Ive got other ferrets too so its too risky not to know what the problem is. Your mate must be gutted. -

Anyone from north east have some spare rabbits? My permission doesnt start til October but I need some now. Ive had to hand rear 5 hobs as their mother had a hysterectomy. I have a spare longnet basket which I would gladly swap for rabbits.I will come and collect them and bring the basket. Please PM me if you can help. Thanks. -

Hope these help you. -
I find a good selection of sizes always works best depending on the places you are working. For me spun polyester or hemp is best. I make my own and have different colours for different sizes; Green 3'. Orange 3'6 and Yellow 4'. All my hemp are 3' nets. Its just what works best for me.

Well said. These people banging on about going in for oil and all that shit.. If you don't agree with it stop filling your cars with middle eastern petrol. Stop using electricity made with middle eastern gas in your homes. Stop buying products made prom plastics which are formed from refining middle eastern oil.. The list is endless.. Like it or not, our whole way of life is dependant on maintaining a steady supply of oil from these oil rich countries. This is dependant on stability in the regions. Don't forget, we don't steal the oil, we buy it and in the process inject god knows h

well its a no brainer realy, but why you would put it up as a topic on a huntig forum ,even if it on the genral talk is beyond me,especialy when we dont know all the facts I just wanted to know peoples opinions before I went to see him. I didnt want to go in with all guns blazing until I heard someone elses view.He has finally decided to cancel his holiday and get his son the treatment he needs asap. My only hope is that the hospital havent already made the arrangements to change the dates to fit in with his holiday. I put it on a hunting forum in general talk as I thought thats just wha

In an ideal world that would be half acceptable but he isnt planning on taking his son with him. He's going with mates.

nice ferret that mate never seen 1 like it He is gorgeous!

I have to say, Ive had two ferret courts and a double kennel and run from John, fair enough - the second time took a lot longer than the first time to get the stuff but theyre still going strong. I for one am really shocked to hear all this bad stuff about him.

maybe think of what the guy has been through himself! hed cancer and now hes clear maybe that makes your thinkin a little different to anyone else! reckon if id had it id maybe a little selfish. my thoughts go out to the little boy and with all my best wishes i hope he recovers and lives a long and healthy life! butto be fair this is a hunting forum and the morals of individuals with a family problem is not the sort of thing that should really be discussed! and if the poster of this thread is involved in the treatment of the said family! WRONG!! yis jonny Im not involved in any

I have to say, Im lucky, I can afford to pay for monthly insurance for my dogs and Ive certainly had my moneys worth over the years. The PDSA is supposed to be there to help people who cant pay for dogs which they care for, I wonder how many people on the nash have dogs and where would they go if people who couldnt afford vet bills all got rid of their dogs? Fishfish, I hope you never have another experience like this one, it must have been awful.

Those two questions are just the tip of the iceberg. As annonymous as i possibly can be; heres the scenario; Father had lump 5 years ago was told it wasnt cancerous. 7 year old child has lump last year discovered it was cancerous, lump removed. A hereditary disorder discovered and it turns out fathers lump was indeed cancerous too but he is clear now. Both father and son have to have radioactive iodene treatment, son first, then father later this year as fathers is just a precaution. Father can stay with son during treatment which lasts two days, mother cant as son will be radioactive. F
