Yes, they are brain dead! I bet the people who called you rabbit murderers are quite happy to eat cheap supermarket chickens though!!
-
Wow!! That looks like great fun!!
-
Thats what I would do! Take someone with you to help - £45 is a lot of money! Ive had problems with collars coming off in difficult places but luckily for me I had longdogrunner with me who always saves the day

I love that piture of the terrier jumping the net! Thats a great bag - better than my 4 the other day! I wanted to go ferreting today but when I got up even the street was flooded so I couldn't get out Fingers crossed for next week!
-
I'll second that!!

Oh God! I've just read the rest of the replies on this thread now! I honestly thought the jill jab was safe and could be used often! Thats why I like to ask on here - there's only so much books will tell you! Nothing beats experience! Now Im back to square one Think I'll have him snipped and use him like I originally intended. He will be worked so Im not going to risk spoiling that by having him castrated. I had already made a spare hutch inside my court ready to separate him from the jills so its not a big problem to sort really. Cheers for all the replies people - its very much appreciated

Are you planning on getting him castrated or vasectomised? Because a castrated hob should have no urge to mate with the jills, but a vasectomised one will. He'll be getting Castrated in the hope that he wont bother the jills at all. I was originally going to use him as a hoblet to bring the jills out of season and have him in a separate hutch but now Ive found out how cheap jill jabs are (£3.50!) in my area I may as well have him castrated so he can stay in with them all! I have 6 jills and him, 3 of the jills are neutered and 3 will need jill jabs.
-
Well, thats settled it then! He is getting castrated and the jills will be getting jill jabs! Just one more thing; will this affect his ferreting abilities?

Wow!! I'll have to read this weeks CMW!! Try sending a PM to Crow, he makes the BEST metal gagues!!

Looks a bit difficult to ferret there mind MH! 7 is a good bag on land like that IMO! Well done!

I'm sorry to hear about your recent loss MTD nothing compares to a days ferreting in my opinion, I have a great working ferret at the minute that I got for free off Lone Wolf (Dont know if he's still a member on here?) And like you; I decided to get some off spring from her (I was lucky enough to have one of Woodgas hob ferrets as the father!) I cant wait to try them out later in the season, the mother was out today doing her stuff and doing it so well! I cant imagine ferreting without her now to be honest so I know exactly what you are saying!

I hope you get the jill back, there are certain circumstances where wearing a collar isn't feasable, like this wall I sometimes ferret; but I wouldn't risk ferreting without a collar normally, I'd be gutted if I lost a ferret. Last season one of my ferrets collars came off and this is where the collar was; We had a reading of two feet! Longdogrunner was a star and didnt give up until we had the collar which he spent around three hours digging to from either side of the path! its just not worth not using collars, especially at this time of year. Fingers crossed for you.

Lets not mention tangled longnets.................... ................... i dread the phonecall after you being out with them .............. There's going to be a phone call tomorrow, but its just the last 12 meshes this time - it always seems to happen as Im picking up the last arms length? i'll try and sort it myself as its no where near as bad as usual - honest!

he he, lakeland x parsons russell!
-
Im sure Molly will teach us a thing or two about how to climb fast!! Lol! next friday is sorted and I cant wait!!
-
I forgot to say; the people were so happy that I was there trying to help them they kept insisting I took some money but I refused and explained I was just grateful to have more permission so they made me take a leg of venison! longdogrunner will be getting that though as a thankyou for all the times he fixes my tangled longnets!
-
I decided to go ferreting today on some new permission, its a huge garden and the owners were thrilled that I agreed to give it a go today - despite the cover being quite bad! I arrived at 9.30 and was all set up by 10.30. I went and had a fag and put the ferrets collars on them (This was done on purpose so any noise I had made whilst setting the nets was long forgotten by the rabbits )At 11am I put the ferrets in here By 11.15 I was busy climbing up here for my terrier!! Who had managed to get herself about 15 feet up the lime tree!! The man had to get me some ladders and hold them st

Thats what I do too. You probably already know this - but just in case you dont; Don't use any disinfectant that goes white in water as it can be fatal for ferrets. Good luck, best thing I ever did was get my ferrets!

My permission is such that I often get people approaching me asking what Im doing etc, I bought the 10 shot magazine a couple of months back and have only fired 20 shots through it when I zeroed my rifle in. Im not happy about having a loaded rifle when I get idiots coming up to me (Im a nurse and have to be very careful) so after some consideration Ive decided to sell the conversion kit. Its still on my rifle but as soon as I get a buyer I'll take it off and send it. Cheers.

If that ever happens to me it will herald the end of my ferreting days!! Im absolutely terrified of wasps! What a nightmare that must have been!

ferret finders how to work them
jultaylor1972 replied to scottish lurcher's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
USING THE FERRET FINDER PinPointer - The PinPointer control (rear knob) limits the sound 'pips' to a position close to the transmitting collar. The LED display indicates distance which does not vary with use of the PinPointer sound control. Search Mode - When a signal from the transmitter is recieved the reciever emits 'pips'. The pitch of these pips increases if you point the reciever towards the transmitter, and goes higher still as you get closer to it. To start the search, switch to the 'S' (search) range and move over the likely area until you hear the pips. if the pitch start -
Im lucky, I have a court for mine - but thats not to say I didnt start with a hutch. I made them a tunnel play centre and had to play with them in my garage for at least an hour every day, mine were exactly the same they were wild when I put them back in the hutch! In fact - even now I go in the court with them for as long as possible and when I come out they run wild! They just crave attention and take some wearing out. Im sure your ferrets are just normal and you seem to be treating them as well as you can! Well done
-
Well, Im really gutted.
-
'Cos they can so there is an advantage for being a hermit after all!! put your knob anywhere you like and no one can say a thing! just hope the window doesnt fall shut while doing it
-
Oh dear In order to be old and wise - first we must be young and stupid! We have all done silly things Im sure I must have done a lot more than most and Im ok now that Im 35! Lol.
