  1. I have to agree with Robbo on this one 400mtrs thats a long shot. I thought it would have been a lot more enjoyable and safer to stalk in a bit closer. As robbo said the stalk is the enjoyable part , i think the well placed shot the icing on the cake. I had a stalk the other day on a couple of roe great country great weather brilliant stalk but no shot at the end ,still enjoyed it. Happy hunting.
  2. Best of luck Blair work hard and you will achieve all youve dreamt of.
  3. Nice Buck ,I am in the same boat as you were, I spied a couple of bucks no safe shot then stalked onto a few others watched a wee while ,sadly all does.
  4. Try Fife Feild Sports they are very helpfull One of the guys Dick is a really decent bloke who knows what hes talking about .
  5. Why do they do that ive lost count of the times ive unloaded put the ammo away then hello CHARLES REYNARD HERE . The other night i thought bugger it been out 3 hours and knackered unloaded put the rifle in the slip and yes you have to do it one last cast round with the lamp, a pop pair eyes a quick reverse back 100 yards or so jump out pull rifle from the slip load puffing like an old horse ,a couple of squeeks on the caller in he came like an express train squeek ,stop BANG down he goes ,why couldnt he do that a few hours ago
  6. well... that didnt work he wandered up to me but only around 4 feet away, ill try incoraging him when hes close to me... might work! Hi Rob Bob to be honest he is still young i wouldnt worry to much you know he retreives ,it just needs tidying up go on to a dummy rather than the ball, a ball rolls more fun to keep a dummy doesnt I would carry on with his basic training heel ,sit ,stay throw dummies around him etc leave the retreiving for a couple of weeks. If you want more help I take a gundog training class in Dunfermline on sunday mornings pm me for details.
  7. Unfortunately in my case the people who own the ground i have been shooting on for years are now demanding that anyone stalking on their land must have at least DSC1 ,and from what i can gather from other shooting folk this is unfortunately becoming standard practice . I have been involved in all aspects of shooting in scotland and pride myself in the knowledge and skills i have picked up over the last 30 odd years. We should all remember to ask the door tapers come election time as to their parties stance on Field sports. We should begin with the SNP I think most scots would be pretty p
  8. This is one of the reasons I keep the bolts in the rifles. Other is that you can de-cock them which you can't (mostly) otherwise. If I were travelling a long way andf knew that I'd probably need to leave the vehicle I'd take them out. J. Aye Jonathan I could see the foxes rolling about on their backs holding their ribs laughing . The bolt will now stay in the rifle
  9. Here is one i tried earlier very effective. Rifle in slip on floor back of truck ammo in locked glove box drive 20 miles to shoot F****** bolt left in top section gun cabinet . A peach
  10. Had a wander with the rifle snaw up to and past the dangley bits, pissed off , then on way backto landy found a cubing den thought to myself ill do an arnie (ILL BE BACK) probably tonight .
  11. Hi Dave1372 i hope this not near penicuick i was hoping to get out friday night.
  12. A wee thing i use as the transition to heel work off the lead ,walk the dog round on the lead demanding tight heel work then sit the dog down take the lead wrap it round the dogs nech leaving the wee handle part sticking out PS dont wrap it to tight just enough for a little pressure so the dog thinks he is on the lead give the lead a tug and command heel walk of do a lot of left turns if you walk your dog on the left and right turns if you walk your dog on the right . Stop the dog fairly often and before you set of give the part of the lead sticking out a wee tug and the command heel this use
  13. Hi dogdigger I had a similar problem with a cocker a few years back i had tried a lot of diferant tricks but nothing seemed to work then tried the following. Sit the a dog and the dog with the problem beside you on a slope drop a tennis ball let it run down the hill send the retreiving dog do this a couple of times try and get the non retriever excited then send the non retriever dog its worth a try it worked on the wee cocker. Good luck
  14. I was hoping to get round the shoot last night the sheep parks are sodden water everywhere now more of this bloody snow. I feel sorry for the reds up north they must be having a hellish time.
  15. I can just see it in future deer stalker standard equipment bright orange reflective jacket ,safety helmet ,ear protection ,eye protection satelite tracker fitted into rifle stock to enable police to know where this weapon is at all times full plastic body bag for deer carcase small bag for gralloch . chiller fitted to vehicle to maintain optimum temperature of carcase Warning banner in case you fall into a peat bog with all this heavy kit on . No im not in the least bit paranoid .
  16. It would seem that some orgonisations the RSPB being one seem to trying to make changes in what ammo we can use for deer, it is reported that the RSPB (wich should be renamed RSPR for their work in protecting raptors above all other bird species) anyway back to bullets ,the RSPB have carried out a study on their land and the stalkers they use are using a copper bullet in place of lead it would seem from the report that there is very little difference in ballistics it is also reported that the RSPB will put in place a complete ban on lead bullets on their land . It would seem the information o
  17. Imagine meeting that last one on a rutting stand .
  18. I worm every pup with Johnsons puppy syrup at ages 2 weeks 4 weeks 6 weeks and 8 weeks Never had any problems but i agree with skycat there are a lot of pups out there that need proper worming.
  19. Ive got a litter of Ess they are only a week old wont be ready until May ,4dogs 4 bitches .
  20. I cant see BASC doing anything . Look at the tail docking situation yes in Irland yes in England yes in Wales NO in Scotland. We have a parliament that wont listen to the people on the ground they would rather spend thousands of pounds on some reaserch company that cant tell its arse from its elbow. In Scotland we have be seen to do what the majority potential of voters want and not whats right . The useless shower of shite we laughing call the Scottish goverment will drive shooting sports out of the hands of the ordinary working person and it will once again be a sport for the wealthy class

Hi Blacky7 there are no gundog training classes in the area as far as I know but i live fairly close to you if you would travel to Dunfermline on a sunday morning , i could give you a hand as ive said before on here im bloody useless on the computer so i dont know how you would get in in touch with me without it going everywhere, i think i read someone saying pm me whatever that means.
  24. A lot of what the people above have said i agree with with but i would steer clear of this Dobbs dogs rubbish ,forced retreiving electric coller conditioning retriever training eight weeks old its obviously an american site while i have nothing against Americans or their good dog men but this reliance on the F****ing electric coller just shows how good a dog trainer this person is . Sorry for the rant i cant put into words how mutch I F****ing hate the shock coler.
  25. I think your problem in a nutshell is you are trying to train the dog while out shooting he is never going to improve if you keep shooting over him. Go back to the start NO shoot days for this dog take him to an area on the lead get a friend to fire a few shots with starting pistol get your mate to walk beside you and shoulder the gun as if about to shoot. Get the dog siting while you throw dummies around him ,then you pick all dummies stand in front of him move your hands about tap your legs rattle your change do all sorts of movements if he moves pick him up dont say word to him right back
