  1. I must be honest and say I did feel that the first shop I took the bottle too was trying to rip me off, especially when he wanted to buy the bottle after telling me it was out of test and would need to be left with him so he could get a test done. Anyone know how much a test cost? John
  2. Thanks for all the help guys! The one I have is definitely an unmarked diving cylinder, so I was lucky that the second shop filled it for me. I don't use the Rapid 7, so this fill will last me for the next five years John
  3. I was under the impression that it's not as simple as all that to move deer. The deer do not take well to the tranquiliser's and do not take well to the transport, with a high mortality rate. Might be wrong but would be very interested in any information you might get. John
  4. Hoping that someone might be able to telling what the law is with regards to refilling divers bottles and being in test. I dug out my Rapid 7 today, not used it in two years and went to the garage to get my divers bottle to refill the buddy bottle. The buddy bottle only filled to 1bar, so I thought I'd better go and get the 12l bottle refilled. Okay, when to the shop I purchased it from, the guy said 'Oh, that bottle is out of test'. Now the bottle is only about two years old, never been filled and has a test sticker saying that it should have been tested in April of this year. I explained th
  5. What stuff did you buy? Just wondering what was wrong with it? John
  6. There is one simple fact here and one only. This so called proposal is aimed at 'night shooting', well when your walking around a field at night, with a lamp you stick out like a sore thumb, not exactly hard to spot and not exactly stealth like at all. So, why inform the law, when during the day light hours you can be almost invisible if you so wish. So following the illogical steps our law makes take, if they want us to contact the police before night shooting takes place, when we stick out like a sore thumb, exactly how long will it take these plebs to work out that it might be even more be
  7. Hi all, I know this isn't the sales section but I thought it more relevant to place here. I have a stack of nylon netting, I mean loads of the stuff. Mesh size is 75mm and it's made from nylon. It's VERY very strong stuff and black. Would be happy to swap for anything shooting related. John
  8. Sloes! go and buy yourself a bottle of cheap Lidl gin, empty the bottle in to a jug, fill half the bottle with the sloes (keeping as much of the blue yeast on them as you can), put a cup of sugar in the bottle and fill with gin. Find another bottle and do the same. Shake everyday for three weeks and leave until Xmas, strain and enjoy! .410. An old friend once said 'why do you want a .410? A 15 yard shot is a gun'un!'. Not really the tool for flying pigeons, but another old friend once told me that if he had to own just one shotgun it would be a .410 and I'm also in the market for one but t
  9. Nothing above would indemnify any police authority from responding to a call out, the police would still have to turn up and investigate. Okay they may not turn up in force but they should not turn up in force anyway, common sense should prevail. For example, a call placed to the police states ' A man is walking across the field with a big torch and gun shooting rabbits! ', I ask you what the hell do the police thing is happening, a midnight raid on the bank of Rabbit wonger. It would however make the police job easier, for example lets say that we have conformed to the above. Unknown to us,

  11. I used to have a stutzen (ruger) in .243", what a lovely classic stalking rifle. I blooming loved that rifle but the POI changed after two shots, in the damp, in the sun, in the summer, in the winter..... Not by much, but yes there is a difference. Not sure about the newer rifles tho. From what I have been told, if you get a good'un, it's great but most are bad'uns. John
  12. Could be a stack of things. I'm guessing that it's a .17 centre fire (?), if so make sure he cleans the barrel as some .17's foul very quickly which will lead to erratic grouping (in as little as 10 shots!). Have you checked the scope mounts? Stock screws? Is the scope moving in the mounts? Barrel clearance? Have you tried another scope? A couple of weeks back my .308 started to shoot erratically, I was under pressure to get the rifle up and running ready for a stalking trip. For some reason I had in my mind that it was the 165 grain bullets and that I needed 180 grain to make the rifle s
  13. MMmmm Lemon Meringue pie...I think some more cooking is in order. I swear I have put on a stone during my leave , back to work Monday to work it all off John
  14. No problem at all, just double check the twist of the barrel (could be a 1 in 9, in which case switch to a 60 or heavier grain V-max). If you not sure how to check the twist rate, just give me a PM. John
  15. The rifles normally have a 1 in 12 barrel as such would prefer 50 to 55 grain bullets, I would suggest a 52 grain A-Max from Hornady (#22492) driven with by Hodgdons BL-C(2) powder which I found to be most excellent in my .223. Quick load suggests that 26 grains will be a light load , producing 3142 fps or 1141 Ft-Lb ME (with 26.5 being just compressed) and that 28 grains would be as hot as you would want to really go with 3415 fps or 1346 ft-lb ME and is a compressed charge from 26.5 grains to 28 grains. Taken on a COAL of 2.26" MY pet load in my old M77 .223 was 23.5 grains of BL-c(2) dri
  16. Hey, I hear exactly what you are saying. Fact is if the guy wants to be trusted and wants to own a legal shotgun then he has to change his ways and for the better. Habitual criminals have little hope in changing and can not stick to one thing for very long. If this chap really wants to be trusted, he has no option but to change and change over the long term to regain the trust of the police. Lets be honest here, in his adult years he has committed petty offences which can lead to more serious offences and could have lead to a death. It is for that reason the FEO will not recommend him at this
  17. I'm not expert on target rifles but if your looking at formal target shooting then I know they have strict requirements, such as no scopes I'm guessing that your not a member of a club yet? Why not go along to a club and have ago, that way you will see what kit you need. I have seen general target rifles being sold for £2! all the way up to £1000, I'm guessing there must be some reason Give these guys ago buddy : Leicester and District Small-bore Rifle and Pistol Club Contact Person: John Fudge / John.pennineway@btinternet.com Phone: (0116) 2872465 The range was officially op
  18. And would you be using that .22lr mainly for formal target shooting or mainly for informal target shooting and would you be hunting with the rifle? The reason I ask is that I was turned away from a rifle range once, simply because 'They' were proper target shooters and had no time for sporting rifles on their ranges. Why not have two rifles? .22rf are not that expensive and target rifles sell for bladders at any rate if you go for an old martini action. As already recommended, .22rf CZ & Older BSA target rifle will see you right and not cost the earth. A friend of mine once owned a .22rf
  19. Please, think about what I am writing here and don't take it to heart, treat it more as honest advice. I have highlighted some text above. Each line shows flippancy and disregard for anyone other than yourself. Lets face it, you will be judged by the company you keep and if your hanging around with known criminals then what they do in their own time has a lot to do with you, that is if you want to own a shotgun. It matters not what you are concerned with, it matters what the police are concerned with and hanging around in pubs where you can access illegal firearms, hanging around with crimi
  20. Made some today, thanks for posting the recipe and yes it taste divine!!! John
  21. Well done! you have a genuinely mature attitude and IMHO deserve the chance to prove you are a good candidate to own firearms. Never let your age stand in your way, I have seen and shot with some very dangerous 60 year olds who had no idea at all about gun safety or safe shooting practices. All the best. John
  22. Not a lot I suspect but what do you expect? We all do stupid things when we are young BUT you have been banned from driving for multiple offenses, drove your friends car whilst knowingly banned. Have criminal friends and to top it all off decided not to come clean on your application. Frankly if I were an FEO I would also have said no, you obviously have no respect for the law and as such, can NOT be trusted with a firearm of any sort. With that out the way, and it wasn't meant to be derogatory at all, just a wake up call. Your only hope is to keep out of trouble for five or so years and th
  23. First, you seem to be a decent young chap, so I wish you the best. Second, the information you want to know is very much dependant up on how the police perceive your knowledge and character. No person on here can give you the correct answers, just an opinion and may be some guidance, you are better off, calling your Licensing department and asking to speak to an FEO. Explain what you have explained here, and ask his opinion. I too was 17 when first granted my FAC and was let loose on the local wildlife with a .22rf and I had a LOT less experience than you have. Sometimes, it's just best to
  24. Hi Adam, I have a mate who is well in to his motor bikes. I once asked him what the difference was between a trail bike, a dirt bike and a road bike. He told me, a road bike is excellent on the road, but very bad off road, a dirt bike is excellent off road but very bad on the road, a trail bike is neither very good on road or very good off road. Much the same with rifles, if you want to shoot targets, you'll need a heavy barreled, light stocked, single shot rifle and if your entering competitions your going to have to make sure you have the right kit for the right competition rules but that
  25. For the life of me I can not remember where or when I read this, but it worked for the author and worked for me a few weeks back. Anti: Your a bl00dy MURDERER........ Me: Yes, I hate doing this for a living too but I lost my job a few months back and the landowner has agreed to pay me £5 for every rabbit I shoot and I plan to shoot six tonight. So if you want to give me £30, I'll finish work early and leave the rabbits be. Don't bank on getting your money but it shuts them up fast. John
