Guess it mean 0 that's ZERO, nowt, zilch!! Funny realy but hey thats why he's so touchy when some one asks a question John

I mainly shoot reds, it makes a change for me to shoot roe or fallow to be honest. Now I love using the .243" on roe! The .243" will kill a red, I have done it but it's just on the edge and IMHO not adequate for a large beast. The .308 or .270 will take anything that the UK has on offer, far better to be "over" gunned than act like a total to$$er and be under gunned. As you say, it really knocks your confidence when things go wrong. The .243" has it's place in my stalking and that is for use on roe, which IMHO the calibre is superb. John

ACTUALLY I WAS SIMPLY ASKING YOU A QUESTION, YOU SEEM TO FLY OFF THE HANDLE WITH ANYONE WHO YOU THINK MIGHT POSE A THREAD TO YOUR SOME HOW SELF IMPOSTED IMPORTANCE, BOLLOCKS TO YOU! I tried to be civil.

Without going off topic too much, just wondering how many Stags you have shot? and if you have shot any with a .243 and if you have shot any with a .308 ? I'd not recommend shooting the big boys with the .243" you are simply just under gunned IMHO, yes if you hit the spot you'll kill the beast but compare the results with that of a .308 and believe me, you'll not bother with the .243. It amazes me how many people are hung up on the .243" as if they haven't got anything better to use, the .243" is just deer legal and most have a twist rate not suited to heavier bullets as in reality the .2

Generally speaking stubby wide calibres like the .243" & .308 (6mm BR etc etc etc) are inherently more accurate due to more uniformed powder ignition etc. Lets say you are zeroing at 200 yards, the .270 will have a drop of around 8" using 150 grain bullet, the .308 will have a similar drop using 150 grain bullets, 6.5x55 will have much the same and so on. There are plenty of calibres to look at, .243" (just on the edge & JUST legal) / .25-06 / .30-06 / .270 / 6.5x55 / .308, hey the options are endless try a 7mm Rem mag!! For my money and because I am boring, if I wanted a hard h

Nope, but a chap I used to stalk with had one. Meat damage isn't that bad and the calibre used to be very much in vogue. Not that inherently accurate (IMO). IMHO there is better out there for your money. John

To be honest Quick load isn't a beginners program (with all due respect!) if you want my advice, stick with a good reloading manual for a while and then move on to Quick load at a later data. The manual for Quick load is 2" thick Have a look here : http://www.6mmbr.com/Quickload.html and to be honest I just did a Goggle search and it seems there are a good few site s that you can acquire this program from. I have owned one and to be honest it was a good rifle, a little light weight mind but the walnut stocked helped. Accuracy was good, action was reliable. All in all I'd give it a 8 ex 10 but I would not buy another based on current prices and would go with a Rem 700 because CZ are still budget rifles but that of course depends up on the price of the rifle you are looking at. Produces +9 fps. The barrel length on the model was 24" BTW. To be more accurate it would need the case capacity in water etc but I think you'll find the results to be more or less bang on, just be careful as I have never reloaded for the 6.5. John
-
Hi Jonathan, I have run some data in Quick load for you and this is what has come up : COAL = 3.15" Bullet = .264, 155, Lapua MEGA E471 6010 (can not find a 156 grain). Powder = Vihtavuori N160 Case & Powder not specified!!!! Start weight of 40 grains would produce 2240 fps and be deer legal. Max load would be 45 grains 2507 fps. PLEASE NOTE : This is based on a mathematical model, check with the guys on here that shoot a 6.5x55 and be 100% sure before using any of the above. John

How to mount Night Vision (Weaver) Scope?
HUnter_zero replied to dadioles's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Check this out : http://www.nightvisiongear.co.uk/Night-Vis...il-Adapters.htm John -
It all depends upon the twist rate of your barrel. For example my .243" pro-hunter has a 1in12 twist which will stabilize 58 grain V-max very well indeed, giving one hold groups at 100 yards all day long but with 100 grain bullets I get 2"-3"+ groups which will take both fox and deer at 100 yards. For this reason I want to reload a dual purpose load with a compromise of a 75 grain soft point which I hope will produce good groups and could be used on both Roe & Fox. Measure you twist rate, use the greenhills formula to decided on a bullet length and go from there. John

Deker, there was no reason at all to swear. You my man are full of the proverbial and anyone on this or any other forum who has spent any real time managing deer will know this. I have nothing at all to prove to you or anyone else as I have reached the dizzy heights of as far as I can go in the UK with regards to shooting & stalking. You have much to learn but not from me as I wouldn't want you in 100 miles of any land I shoot over. So you keep doing what you do and keep making me smile with your "professional attitude" . Any and all unwanted parts are left discreetly on site ....a WHOLE

Do nosler make V-max? Didn't think you had any ACTUAL legislation or documentation that provided proof that V-max are in fact either hollow or soft pointed bullets and why is that? Well because V-max are neither. Again until you can provide certifiable proof and not just your opinion that V-max are in fact deer legal, I would suggest refraining from using the bullets. John
-
As I presumed, you can not supply any legislative information backing up your opinion that Polymer tipped bullets are defined by UK law as soft or hollow nosed. Could you please supply ANY manufacturer data for V-max that states the bullets are either soft or hollow pointed bullets? John
-
Deker let me just address my "understanding". I own shooting rights and I also lease shooting rights for everything from Snipe to Red deer, that means if I so wanted I could take any one from here, give them authority to stalk deer off my own back and they could apply to their police force for a .308 and be granted one with in a week or so. I hold a DSC1 & DSC2 which means I can mentor them to the point where they can go it alone. I am a full time pest controller qualified by the BPCA to both level 2&3 which not only means many extremely large and prestigious business take my opinion v

Deker, you claim to control deer as "vermin" and as such openly admit that the meat is useless, so as you also claim to shoot fair numbers of deer could you please explain how and where you dispose of the carcasses? John
-
When you can produce legislation that either defines polymer tipped bullets as either hollow or soft point or ANY legislation that condones the use of polymer tipped bullets for deer control then you might have a point to make, other wise it's just your opinion, which is wrong. John
-
Thanks all. I was mainly curious about the legal definition of "controlled expansion". Seems to be another of those vague legal terms which can be interpreted any old which way. Two last points. Does the .240 minimum for deer in England and Wales apply to CWD and Muntjac? Ric V-max are neither hollow or soft point in construction. Anyone who has the most basic of knowledge can explain why that is, it would be grossly absurd to explain other wise and akin to suggesting FMJ bullets are soft points with a bit of copper to protect the soft tip. V-max do not expand in a predictable manner.

Cheap Batterys in the South Wales area
HUnter_zero replied to Hmr Hunter's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
You can get them FOC mate. All you need to do is keep an eye open for the fire alarm guys driving round, just ask if they have any 'old' batteries, they are normally more than happy to give them away. John -
V-max can and do crater on deer, so for a humane kill you are right, there is no need to take risks, stay away from v-max. "idiots replying who have never shot a deer in their lives but know it all, and get all pompous and riotous because they read something somewhere and are simply trying to score Brownie points." if a lot of people disagree with you, that does not necessarily make them inexperienced, you should really understand you are not the only person in the world who shoots deer or does a lot of rifle shooting, indeed there are plenty around. Which Centerfire caliber to choose?
HUnter_zero replied to Groach's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
You may not be granted any CF rifle for open/flat ground with little or no safe back stops, period. A safe shot is a safe shot no matter what calibre of rifle you have in your hands. In safety terms a back stop is either safe or not and that would be for any calibre, in real terms this may no be so but at any rate and with out seeing your patch of land I would suggest you think about installing a few high seats which will provide a good safe back stop. If the rifle is only for use on Roe & Fox then a .243" with a suitable twist rate will do the job superbly and would be the one and only c -
Things you see when lamping
HUnter_zero replied to bobthefox's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
On an old permission I switch the lamp on to see what could only be described as a twirling vortex of mist, not unlike something you would expect to see on most haunted!! I stood and watched the vortex for a few minutes, and with my imagination playing tricks I could have sworn I could make out the shape of a head being formed. There was no wind, it was a warm clear night. Eventually I plucked up my courage and started to walk towards this spectra, which turned out to be a towering dense mass of gnats!! On another occasion there was an eerie green glow from some bushes, very strange but that
