  1. Thanks to everyone for the positive comments, he's an absolute joy to be around and proving to be a smart little pup, all legs, neck and ears at the moment but he's started retrieving toys to hand and is good on and off the lead, also showing good determination and already a decent turn of speed. The pics were taken on a walk around an old dissused quarry near to my home down here in west wales. We'll see how he gets on this year, maybe introduce him to working next season. Staggerz- nice to see your pup again, looks like she's coming along nicely, looks very similar to Macsen. If my memo
  2. Out with Macsen on his first real walk, he's coming on really well now.
  3. Absolutely fantastic dogs, superb stamina, great speed and if youre lucky with the cross a good brain. They do tend to be a bit clumsy at times, but thats all part of their character. From experience they are 100% with other animals too. Never had any problems with my old deerhound/greyhound/beardie out in the hills with horses and sheep.Great if youre going to keep one in the house too...they just sleep all day.
  4. Heres one for you "He's built like a gipsy's whippet...all bones and bo**ocks!" used to describe a person of extremely slight build!
  5. Theres a little book called 'lurcher ways and lurcher days' full of quotes, poems and stories, well worth a read if you can find it.
  6. Taffybull, the top pic was taken above llyn y fan fach in the carmarthen fans. The others are in the western beacons above craig y nos.
  7. Cheers folks, yeah the big deerhound x was a very strong dog with incredible stamina. Unfortunately we lost him a couple of months ago aged 11 after a long illness, he is sorely missed, however we managed to get a pup a few weeks ago of a very similar cross.
  8. Greetings and welcome to the forum.
  9. Outstanding photos, great dogs and breathtaking scenery...what more could one want. My dogs get a similar life down here in the mountains of south west wales.
  10. You wouldnt be from trap by any chance would you?...just guessing from your username! I know the area well, land of the magnificent carreg cennen castle.
  11. Hello and welcome. Our old Deerhoundx suffered ligament problems a few times throughout his life, being a big clumsy hound, we always found that a short period of rest then gentle excercise, gradually building up over the course of a few weeks worked wonders for him.
  12. Welcome to the forum, croeso i'r fforwm. Nice looking dogs. Whereabouts in west wales are you?
  13. She looks very much like my pup(also 8 weeks old)! aha! just saw the other pics...mines from the same litter!
  14. Hello all, first post on this forum. I am from Carmarthenshire, west wales. My main interest being lurchers/longdogs/sighthounds. Just aquired a new deerhound/greyhound/beardie pup who is 8 weeks old after losing our previous deerhound cross after 11 years of faithful service after a long illness. I also have a 9 year old lurcher bitch. Hoping to work the pup when he is old enough, although the mrs. is a little squeamish with regards to hunting...which might prove problematic! Anyone else on here from this part of the world?
