Blunt Hacksaw Blade or Stripping brush
squirreltail replied to a topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Like bill88 I use my fingers and also a stripping knife.fingers do the job better.the point of stripping is to get rid of the fluffy bit of undercoat and leave just the hard top coat.if you want less fur I do a mates labrador with an electric dog clipper, this does a brilliant job but takes loads of tim as their coats are so thick and dense.well done mate stickin it for an hour and well done the dog. -
Them flints look about the same ground as we got here,we got no choice as theyre all the same here. never had the problem on the same ground here years ago its how the ground is mismanaged now by the farmers.

Barbed wire is for Mole catcher's to hang there trophies on.. .. it is also used by farmer's to keep there live stock in there field's.. Millet to keep the livestock in their field dont make me laugh, the livestock would be kept in with plain wire no need for barbs, its an archaic arrogant dick heady way very british but worldwide now,

got some Lohmanns traditional, cant beat em for an egg a day each, free range organic,a fried egg sandwich from my hens beautiful, theyre a laugh too, when they come running its like little old ladies holdin up their petticoats, foxy had some few years ago but got him, never forget to shut em up again.next door but one young fox pulled one of her hens through the fence in the day, dam pests they are.

True what you say about pressure, but hes a lad and perhaps didnt know, hard way to learn though.bloody farmers weve said it time and time again WHY PUT THE BARBED WIRE ON TOP????WHO YOU TRYING TO KEEP OUT WHATS THE MATTER WITH JUST THE WIRE IT SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW TO DO IT.

I agree with SJM. I dont believe that lamping a hare takes an athlete of a dog.It does take one though to catch a january hare.especially when its uphill on flinty ground.anyone who has ever seen a course on the hares own ground, in january in early morning, and watched it run and turn and twist, well it dont run to be accurate they jump, and uphill on flint and watched a dog that follows those moves and beats it cant fail to be utterly amazed at the whole unbelievable spectacle.the hares feet dont get ripped by the razor flints but the dogs do,and he dont even feel it,lots got away but when

Sorry mate, a lot of us know how you feel, he was a cracking looking dog , youre gonna miss him but try to think of all the good times.

Indeed they are mate.theyre a superb athlete a brilliantly beautiful animal , the way they twist and turn when they run , its a pity so many end up in the sights of a gun, they mate for life and as a mother the hare cant be beaten, she'll head anything off and away from her young, even give her life up freely.

Out in the countryside walking among the wild buttercups and daisies , old lab by my side ,looked over to my left and would you believe it a hare carrying in her mouth a tiny new born leveret, astonishing sight wonder if anyone else seen the same, read quite a bit on hares and their habits both in the uk Ireland and France but never knew they did that.been to those places too never seen that. Put this thread on hunting dog page very wrongly, cos its not about huntin its about wildlife .

sorry fella, omitted to say I'd just been out bagged a few bunnies and saw the hare, didn't mean to get in your hair.thanks for the advice.

Out this morning crossing tram tracks in field and in front of us was a hare carrying in her mouth a tiny leveret. Never seen it before wonder if anyone else has, always known they give birth in fields and then go off another direction to have the next one, never knew they carried the young in there mouth, this must be unusual, wonder if anyone else seen it,Just imagine if she'd been chased, dont bear thinkin about. It would have made an amazing picture.

Why would you want horsemeat? theres enough beefsteak rabbit chicken that taste much better.tried it few years ago and didnt think much of it.it used to be common in butchers in kent when we had the abbatoir but we only gave it to the dogs, greyhound owners fed it in kennels.dont bother

:clapping: :shout: Interesting point about hedgehog population ,theres no doubt that the populations gone down round here, badgers here are rife, roadside banks dug up all over by them, mud droppin down on road ,big piles, hazard when driving, they get many leverets too, stuffed one once {badger]definately need culling.do you know any statistics about rabbit and mixi? round here its back again. It had died out wondered why back, even tiny ones, not nice.
