:welcome Hello scotrat we could do with your services here in Kent. Know you do rats but our problem is moles mate. theyre everywhere. What happened to the molecatchers? last year and this year never seen so many molehills.in the fields along the tracks and in the back yard keep tripping over them. Best dog I had for rats was a westie terrier would you believe. :welcomeani:

How many hare and fox and pheasant and partridge and rats did they actually get that day Jeff.

:thumbs-up: mines deerhound sire greyhound and tiny bit of bull way way back dam. 65lb and 28''.Loads of stamina, always eager and willing onto anything.Train em when theyre pups and theyre good for any game .also really obedient .
-
Smashing pup. youre lucky. the oldest original deerhound was the lighter coloured dog. the breed standard is dark blue/grey, brindle, yellow and believe it or not sandy red.this being the really oldest breed colour. good luck with him.
-
Has to be the hare mate. The course was an excellent thing to watch, knowing how strong and cunning the hare runs, sorry jumps, it doesnt actually run,and it is, sorry was ,down to your dog alone and its strength and skill to catch the thing, and you can eat a hare what do you do with a fox? dont fancy cooking that up.

Anyone know who sooty sam was and what he was good at? WHAT WAS SOOTY SAM GOOD AT AND HOW LONG AGO DID HE DIE,IT MUST BE DONKEYS YEARS AGO. IF ANYONE WANTS THE GAMEST HARDIEST WHIPPET GET ONE OFF MIKE.HE KNOWS WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT, AND HIS PUPS ARE THE BEST

But you should still voice your opinion.I dont say my way is better than shooting.I say in my opinion its a better and fairer choice to let a dog course a hare or hunt a fox .Better than the now legal comedy of shooting both.Hunting game with a dog is the oldest sport in the world.Youre not reliant on any weapon only on the strength fitness and gameness of a good dog,and for the sport and supreme athlete that is the hare. Why did the hare evolve.to get away from his pursuer. A long run with loads of turns, not a short sprint then get its brains or stomach blown out.

HOW VERY TRUE MATE

If you have any idea about putting a whippet of any breeding onto a fox you need your head tested.yes a whippet is game enough to have a go,especially one from Mike Brown, but on its own you would have one very badly mauled or very dead dog. With another bigger hunting dog theres no problem, the whippet gets stuck in as well.Hope you never get hold of a whippet before you grow up.what age are you 12?
-
Yes Ive got one, the gamest little bugger you ever met.Hes as sly as a fox also. 3 years old off Mike Brown, brilliant whippet.

This afternoon drove by field locally.Shooters out in field.guess what theyre shooting? HARES. Yes I know it goes on and that its legal and that they shoot thousands of hares legally a year but who agrees with it? I for one do not.the hares got no chance.with a dog theres always the chance they get away and the kill is clean. specially with a dog with a good strong jaw.Wheres the sense in it it makes me sick. Whats your view

Many thanks for the replies about dogs cough. The big dog did run early after hare. couldnt stop him unexpected. Hes as strong as a horse think it is because its the beginning of season[rabbits obviously]he s 4 and thinking about it its usually at this time. Will listen to his heart though. He s never been over run never more than a couple of courses [rabbit of course] a week.give him home made elderberry syrup when its bad. yes he s worth it, and honey. thanks all from squirreltail

Anyone know anything about a rasping cough in both my greyhound/deerhound and whippet. After a chase they seem to have a very dry throat.I know they run with their mouths open and a certain amount of a dry throat is to be expected but has anyone else experienced this in their own dogs. Their health generally is excellent but the raspy cough lasts for a few days. Any advice? thanks from Sqirreltail

Information please from southern Ireland.Question.Is anyone allowed to let their lurcher chase and catch hare and rabbit in small quantities for the pot. Where would be the best area?. Is there anyone over there with first hand experience willing to answer questions. It would be most appreciated. Just returned from Mayo, met up with top courser at Tobercurry, greyhounds of course.not my taste to chase hares that have been penned and not on their own territory , not knocking it know its a tremendously popular sport but much prefer a hare to have the chance of escape on his own ground.Grandfath
