  1. Run my BSA ultra .22 through a crony and got 40 shots at full power before it suddenly droped off power.(unregulated),a very accurate rifle,40 shots more than plenty when out and about for me.

  3. Don,t forget that they let you on to do a job of rabbit control,if you don,t do it they will get somebody that will.You need to do enough to keep all party's satisfied, both yourself and the owner/occupier.
  4. When the land owner/occupier wants them gone,I carry on all year were possible with ferrets,if not I control them with gun.
  5. I normally work two Jill's,but came across probs on large warrens so got two more Jill's for coming season,also can spread day out a bit more by working two in morning and other two in afternoon,possibly will acquire a hob at some time.
  6. "What color do you prefer",I myself like to use white ferrets because they are easer to spot when they exit burrow or end up in thick cover even though I use locator collars.
  7. Chickened out of buying hob just bought two 8wk Jill's,thanks to all for replaying some good advice given and prob if I go for another it will be a neutered hob.

I do at times get one of my Jill's holed up on a stubborn rabbit,I do use locator collars,usually when they kill they nearly always leave and come out but unless I dig this can take some time and on some of my permissions digging can be almost impossable,I suppose this is were a strong hob could come in very usually.

  11. I have always worked Jill ferrets, so I am looking to obtain a hob,are there any advantages in working hobs,any advice would be appreciated.

I know it's not the same gun but I use a Baikal Hush power.It's true what they say ones you have one you don't want to let it go.Very quite good strong contraction built to last.quietness also depends on surroundings stand 50feet away and somtimes they are almost silent,I myself have not yet found a supplier that sells subs.I use 2" 2 1/2" and 3" all have there uses.

Just started getting into Air rifle shooting sub 12ftlbs and to be honest I absolutly enjoy myself every time I go out,been asked to thin out some rabbits that are in about 2 acres of paddocks,I usually ferret them,recently I aquired a BSA Ulta .22 for £200,(a bargin or what)I changed the original silencer for a Weihrauch.and fitted a new mildot scope,the gun now is wisper quiet and very very accurate,I been setting up on some warrens and taking rabbits with no probs at all,everyone has been a head shot, not pushing my luck to much at the moment the longest shots have been 45yds measured with

I went out with my two jills on saturday after spotting a fair bit of crop dammage along an section of hedgerow on one of my permission,called the farmer to tell him that I was going up,he had noticed this crop damage and was pleased I was going to ferret it,took seven nice rabbits a couple of cockers slipped through net,dug only one in a stop end,both jills were haveing a great time they deffently enjoed there afteroon out and so did I.Not the season for it but I had to show the farmer that I was doing the job for him,I told him how many that I had from the hedgerow and he was very pleased wi

    4oz best for holding rabbits,6oz not so good but ok,I even use a 10oz in brambles with some fair success.

  20. Just been playing with chairgun pro and noticed that .22 calibre retains a lot more of its muzzle energy over distances than the .177,obviously this can be an advantage when hunting vermin. No dought there is pro's and cons with both calibres and everybody has there own preferences and reasons for choosing a particular calibre.

  23. Thanks Ron,other shooters must have noticed this when changing silencers on the Ultra,be interesting to here other peoples experiences,yes and obviously there must be a technical explanation.

I notice this,I zeroed my BSA Ultra .22 with standard silencer ,then I changed it to a weiruch silencer and noticed the point of impact had dropped about 1" at 20mtrs but all still grouping tightly,the I removed the silencer shooting with no silencer and the group moved up just above the standard silencer mark again grouping was ok.is this normal and can it be explained.
  25. When charging my BSA Ultra with the webley ultra glide stirrup pump,after on a short time it gets impossible to pull the stirrup pump up stroke,it seems like there is a vacuum trying to stop me from pulling the up stroke,has anyone got any ideas how to fix this problem.
