  1. thats what i've been trying to work out myself
  2. i have done search's on here and can't find any thing on the type of terrier i've been thinking about. the job's that it would be required to do is be a sounder/bayer/bolter on foxes and rabbits. the reason behind the idea is because some spots i have found are very inaccesable for digging and all i'm after is a dog that has minamal trouble in and out of hole so no digging required. the dog is only going to be used for bolting for my running dog pup i know i'll get told to get a ferret (i have one)or just cop flack becouse it's not conventional but any way any idea's would be much a
  3. http://www.boerboelaustralia.com/info.htm is more the way i'd be thinking as a hunting protection dog
  4. when i was about 15 or 16 me and two mates used to go ferreting alot and one night we got hold of my mate spot light and we took my lab/dalmation cross and his mini foxie out for a few hours. we had a old car battry that was in a school bag and as it was a wet and windy night we had about 4 layers of clothes on. any way we took it in turns carring the bag with the battry and as we where satched from head to toe, i didn't notice that i had acid running down my back while carring the bag (one mate had dropped the bag and split the battry. only worked it out when we got back to the house and
  5. looks a nice pup, hope it goes well for you. is that a rip on the inside of the back leg?
  6. ok I’ll try that, I’ll just take him out at night times, as he uses his nose more at night and sticks close with out running about much, hopefully problem solved
  7. Thanks Skycat, I’ll keep him on the lead for a while as the ground around here can be pretty slippery, I’ll try and rest him for a bit (it'll be hard as he is full of beans all the time and I do mean all the time) He was 23.9 kg and a shade over 25 inch's tall last week when I wormed him. So it could be the big puppy (teenage) syndrome even though he has all ways been switched on and in full control of him self. Thanks Cathunter
  8. i use ferret shampoo that i picked up from the pet shop, i only use it when a ferret gets on the nose or really grubby, wet em over first in warm water, then rub shampoo in, then a good rinse off in warm water and a dry off in a towel
  9. Hi all, my pup is 7 months old and has always had decent speed and turning ability, but over the last week he seams to have lost his top gears. I don't run him hard, he runs off lead unless he plays deaf. So he goes his own pace, normally bursts of figure 8's for a couple of mins then settles down. I’ve checked him over and seams fine, no tender spots or cuts. I can't put recent pics up at min as computer doesn’t recognise the camera. Should I be worried? Or could it just have to do with a growth stage? Advice much appreciated Cathunter

  17. What a great read how has the training vid come along? as i'd really like to have a look if at all possible. how did you go with the feral dog trapping? a few months ago i got told of a feral dog trapping course that was held in NSW, but missed out as it was over by a couple of days when i got told about it but that's just life. this thread has to be one of the best reads i've read on THL, if not the best. not pissin in your pocket, got a lot of respect for your morals and your hunting and training style (pig specific). all the best and keep up the great work regards cathunter
  18. survey completed. i think a open section to put in answers to questions (that i believe have been missed )would have been handy, also that the individual interpretation of the questions could have been understood as well.
  19. i think the reason is speed and that greyhounds can be easy to come by. and the thinking that by putting a grey in the cross will make them faster in an F1 than a lucher to whatever breed surposadly. thats just my understanding. but i can't see the point in breeding from any dog unless it has proven it's self no matter the breed or breeds in it
  20. sounds like it has thrown to the whippet part of it's breeding is all
  21. cat hunter, that should be more than big enough for a single dog. Here, we build much smaller boxes, to help conserve body heat. I'll pu up a couple of links for you to look at. Maybe they'll help you, but, I don't know. Good luck with what you do. http://leerburg.com/doghouse.htm This has various sizes by breeds- shoulder height. http://leerburg.com/...up.htm#doghouse on this link, scroll down to the "best cold weather dog house" part. These are the boxes I built. I think if you don't have as much cold to worry about. You could build on this size, just leave out the devider. Shoul
  22. I'm buliding a kennel for my pup (the kennel will be in a tin shed that i want to line with ply)and am trying to work out what floor size to build it. my thoughts where 3ft by 4ft as he'll be a large type running dog. so what size is good for summer and winter with the only change being more bedding in winter an less in summer? how do you work out the size of there box to the size of the dog?
  23. i got told from a mate than he used a mix of greyhound, whippet and long legged fox terrier that he bred himself about 20 years ago. but don't know how they they where worked or the size of land they where used on
