  1. Davy, Always the best write ups! You should get yourself a cheap second hand camera for taking pics. (well, you shoot with plenty of other things so you might as well shoot with that too!) How does Charlie get on with the Lighthunter? They're cracking guns, can't fault them, and they look great too!
  2. Tescos don't do the 3 watt cree led any more. They still do the 1W version. Trust me when I say buy one. even if you never use it on your gun, you'll use it as a proper torch. I have two maglites and they're comfortably in the back of the drawer where they will stay until I lose my Tesco one, and even then I'll go to Tesco to buy another one before using the Maglites!
  3. BSA Meteor would be a good consideration alongside the HW25. Both are aimed at exactly the type of situation you are looking at. Personally, I'd recommend buying the gun with open sights first. then line him up with a scope for his birthday, definitely go for a 4x32 or a 4x40. Not too sure about the Lighthunters lads.... giving a 6 year old £500-worth of gun & scope is a bit much!
  4. Hi Donny, I have an Ultra and a normal pump. As a guide, it works out about 1 stroke per pellet (plus a little extra) So, if I shoot 30 pellets, it takes about 35 strokes on the pump to top up my gun. Its MUCH, MUCH easier to top up your gun frequently rather than running it really low. And always top up your gun before putting it away. Phantoms bang on about cost & convenience. In hindsight though, I would've took the £100ish quid my pump cost me and put it towards one of those 3 litre bottles as Andyz did. Although the bottle needs testing every 5 years, I get the impression th
  5. Good spot Zini, I had a look on the website and there are loads of great options to choose from to suit any budget
  6. I'm gonna jump in before the masses of AA lovers! Go for the Ultra, a superbly pointable and practical rifle. There are even a couple for sale on here, one at £300 and one at £350. Both are bargains!
  7. it can happen through either a manufacturing fault or by dropping/knocking your scope. basically, the scopes buggered!
  8. wtf???? So you're not really selling your items on here, just redirecting people to ebay where its on sale there???
  9. Someone will get a bargain there, I have an Ultra and they're great!
  10. Hiya and welcome, You will want to buy him a type of gun called a Spring Air Rifle. This uses a spring to shoot the pellet and is cheaper than most other types. Depending on your budget (I'm assuming you want to buy him a new rifle for Christmas as opposed to a second hand one) I think you should budget about £250 Two rifles worth looking at are a BSA Supersport and a Weihrauch HW99, they're both in the sub-£200 price range. You will also need to buy a scope (the telescopic mounts on the top) go for something like a 4x32, 4x40 or 3-9x40. You should be able to buy a decent brand nam
  11. just keep an eye on whats below them when you shoot 'em. I've had my fair share of pigeons to fish out of water troughs!
  12. Hi Tony, I would have done exactly the same as you. Even if it had of been a casual bystander I would have declined the shot. All you need is a few complaints (even though you are perfectly within your rights) and people start getting arsey By the way, how come you can't discharge your gun without firing it? Any gun I've ever owned could always be discharged by pulling back the cocking mechanism (this includes underlevers, break barrels and pcp) and pulling the trigger then slowly returning the cocking mechanism back to its resting position.
  13. DIVERD, well done on the informed answers. I'm totally in agreement that we should only use compressed air (well, I have to as I use a pump!) but the incessant argument that every gas other than compressed air is dangerous doesn't wash with me, I'm an engineer and know of countless uses for compressed gases (other than air) where they ensure safer working conditions or they are used in much more dangerous conditions than our little 12 ft lbs air rifle can accomodate e.g. Argon shields in holding furnaces, Nitrogen in laser cutting, Argon in MIG welding. Phantom, thats also a great point ab
  14. You'd need a degree in molecular physics to dispel a myth that way........... + it'd be a VERY boring post lol I dunno, you could say the same about the dangers of playing with matches. but at least we all know in simple terms that if you play with matches you're likely to get burned. I just want to know how an inert gas could be dangerous in a PCP. There must be a good reason
  15. Richards right, heep your air rifle to sub 12 ftlbs for an easier (and safer) life. then feel free to use it anywhere you want including inside buildings. No point in shooting pigeons in a shed if you gotta duck the pellet recoiling off a roof truss! Get either a rim fire or, as I do, a shotgun for a bit more versatility. To be honest though, its not worth the hassle. We have the police visiting ever few years to check up on gun cabinets, etc. I do 99% of my shooting with the air rifle and I only keep the FAC renewed as its a bit of a formality and the shotgun is handy to have in case
  16. I'm curoius about this one, no-one ever seems to say WHY nitrogen is unsafe. So come on, how come inert gases like nitrogen or Argon, etc are unsafe to use? If someone says why then it will dispell any myths people have about using them.
  17. never used one but they are a great looking gun!
  18. every gun is different, some "like" certain pellets. I have a .22 Ultra Multishot and it loves the H&N FTT
  19. H&N Field Target Trophy are superb. Very similar to Air Arms field diablo which are also superb
  20. In theory, its quite simple. Just look at your target, e.g. rabbit, then adjust the AO dial on your scope until the rabbit is perfectly in focus. Then, read what you've just set the AO adjustment to on the scope dial. Its easy in theory, harder in practice! I think it might not work so well on cheaper scopes as I have a fairly expensive set of binoculars which can be set to be pin-point focus on something at 30 yards, but a bit fuzzy at 25 or 35 yards. However, there is no gauge on the binoculars!
  21. Nice scope, the AO feature is absolutely essential for airguns as most fixed objective scopes are set at 100yards. I have the Gold Crown 3-9x42 scope which is great. The Nikko Sterling range are superb value for money. To answer your question, no, you don't need to re-zero. Some people mention they can range find using the AO feature, but I could never manage it. I just keep resetting the magnification back to 4x and I'm used to scaling things
  22. Was out shooting today and got caught in the rain. When I got in the house I noticed the gun was looking quite nice with the rain drops on it. So, before I dried it off I thought I'd turn the tables a bit and let the gun have a chance to be shot! What d'you think? I think the BSA Ultra Multishot is a good looking gun, its quite distinctive.... but it looks even better here! John
  23. Top man Davy. Bit of an early Christmas "Selection Box" there!
  24. Don't be offended by the door slamming. Basically you're asking permission to come onto their home with a gun...... would you allow a stranger into your house with a gun?
  25. Get your self to Tescos, and buy their own brand CREE LED lamp, they're magic!
