  1. part of the team is a laguna/nimrodel whippet off coursing lines as have been mentioned.what he brings to the team is plenty of stamina a will to just hunt non stop when we are out he is constantly looking for anything that moves and i mean anything he is keen enough to work the cover on his own if need be and works on ahead sometimes(this is obviously not always to the good) quick off the mark and determined aswell as hard as nails he is a true character. minus points with him are he dont like the water to much swimming ditches and the like he leaves to others ie my lurcher he has a good coa
  2. had only bad news were insuring the dogs is concerned lost my little terrier and they wouldnt pay out check the small print very carefully with these companies trying to get dosh off them when you need it most can be hard work they are allright taking it but try getting them to give you dosh and they will give you plenty of reasons why you aint covered for that perticular accident.
  3. cracking photos spent many happy years ratting on what is now the bird sanctuary or whatever you want to call it going back a while obviously but great fun.

maybe there are more than they say millet but some prick poisoning a majestic bird like that wants his conkers roasting over a fire.
  11. my bitch is only 21 inches but she was what i was looking for and i waited 18mths for the right dog to pop along she does what i want so no complaints.
  12. she looks made up to be back out running with her mate i bet it brought a lump to your throat, well done mate.
  13. good luck tina i dont know how you put up with it,you must really love your dogs well done fingers crossed not many would go through what you have.
  14. thanks fellas for your input will have a chat with him and see what he says, myself i have a lurcher bitch and a border bitch i will not be having any of them speyed and i might add i have always kept bitches not dogs and just dont like the idea myself but he asked me to put up a post for some info so i am very grateful for your input. thanks mark
  15. aah stories we all have plenty of them but yours made me laugh well done mate.
  16. yes have had a few borders myself bringing a pup on at the mo she is 9 mths old some take longer than others but perseverence is the key with these intelligent little dogs they sulk if they dont get there way, however very quiet not as vocal as patts or jrts and not what some people would get each to there own i suppose cracking little dogs though with plenty of character there may be someone on here who can put you in the right direction most borders will happily work rats/rabbits as already said but getting a fox dog a bit harder to aquire good luck.
  17. surely you must have a idea with the lads you go out with look at there dogs the breeding/ stamina/fitness/gameness/intelligenc has non of the dogs stood out that you go out with if there is one you like whats the breeding like do you like the look of it what about the size do you want a big lurcher medium sized dog all these things you need to ponder then you can narrow it down a bit saluki/stamina greyhound/speed, whippet/speed, collie/intelligence, bedlington/speed/good coat, wheaton/gamey bull/gamey, deerhound/strong/ intelligent/graceful to many dogs to mention just a few pointers.
  18. if the pup is just watching and on the lead then i would say take the pup at 5mths however if you want it to work the cover for bolting work with other dogs then 7-8 mths its only bunnies wont do the pup any harm its learning the trade with the other dogs my little border was out walking with the other dogs and started to mooch and work the cover on her own at 6-7 mths however i didnt send her to do that she just started herself this is just messing about and everyone has opinions on ages to work whatever works for you. however her mate the lurcher works all the cover and she follows her budd
  19. my friend has a border bitch 4 yrs old she is now he has mated her twice before but no joy in her taking, her hunting partner is a dog whippet who bounces around his kennel like a lune when she is in season which is a pain in the arse because he looks like he has been on hunger strike after a few days, anyway the question is if he gets the bitch neutered what are the pros/cons ie weight gain character changing sickness any advice would be great,i might add this bitch gets a lot of excercise out six times a wk and is in very good condition.
  20. right then if you want a small dog that will work the cover and is fast off the mark there aint anything quicker than a whippet no matter what anyone tells you i should know we run a laguna whippet and he is lightning of the mark he is 4 yrs old now a bitch whippet would be smaller and lighter so would be off quicker but the male dog has it for me also the laguna has plenty of stamina and will work easily with the terriers we have two borders aswell however they can be a bit headstrong so getting them back can sometimes be a pain in the arse because they hunt on, anyway good luck with your ch

  24. out walking the dogs a few wks ago just excercising them and the whippet went onto the field to see what was about and he was a bit slow coming off and two police on mountain bikes seen him and came upto us and started to question us if we were hunting i replied its a country park just excersising my dog like i have always done there he give me a form that he had filled in with my details on it,there was no comments on mine but on my friends he put on suspected hunting then we left. what i want to know is the legalities of this the dog has walked this park for yrs it hasnt always had many rabb
