  1. yes go to agree with most comments when lurchers are a certain age they are just mad mine just never stops running, however as said it sharpens them up i have to tell her to cool it a bit sometimes because she can be a lunatic but its just young dogs learning and burning energy which they have plenty of before you know it they get more switched on and conserve energy for other things its all part of learning.
  2. the chap i got my wheaton x lurcher off has a wheaton terrier started it ratting about 12-14 mths old then on to bigger stuff shall we say at 18 mths old it aint looked back however the thing is totally off its box when it gets going and he has to keep it seperate from the other terriers and lurcher when kenneling ,totally hard as nails with good stamina and lets not forget great coat for the weather, good luck with the dog mate.

  9. cant go far wrong with the above answers if you can make sure the wind is in your face so harder for them to hear you.
  10. see if you can get a look at any piccies he has of the parents working and check the pup been dewclawed pain in the arse if not cant go wrong with a little whippet bitch for rabbiting and ratting, get it if its right for you and feb march take it out with other dogs working and just let it mooch about could be ideal for next season good luck mate.
  11. got soaked myself last night got a few bits ,dog looks in good nick, good pics mate well done.
  12. Exactly every dogs has differant needs unfortunatly its those with very little experiance that will never get the best out of a dog, but then go on to blaim the dog.(quote) exactly each to their own you find this mainly in younger dog handlers but obviously not all of them are impatient, given time and the right encouragement and the right training patience is the key, then you should have the right balance ,remember not all of us have had the luck to be brought on by older more knowledgeable hunters who show us the way forward so sometimes you have to learn from mistakes, and getting advice
  13. i have the aas410k in 22 excellent on rats and bunnies i have on it a deerfield 3-9-50 with deben mini pro with dimmer good combo deadly accurate.
  14. deben mini pro with dimmer switch absolutely dogs danglies and about 115 pound not bad ideal for rats as you can turn the dimmer right down and then they get careless and pop out and away you go very good on bunnies aswell plus you can get diffrent lenses for them red, amber green yellow.
  15. lets see if these pics work. the pic in the water is two whippets the black demon and sandy bitch also my lurcher and border terrier she beat them to the rat well done to her they are normally a bit quicker some of the others of the dogs working various areas.
  16. my friend has a black whippet dog of laguna+ nimrodel lines his pedigree is something else aswell all i can say is he is a little bit headstrong because all he wants to do is hunt up all the time working cover he can dissapear for a few minutes and you will see him working fields 200 yds away quite a dog he does come back though so it aint all bad when you whistle him up,good all round dog does bunnies ,rats, squirrelwhatever movesand marks very well, also he is a quiet dog and no bother with his temperament he has also helped enormously bring on my lurcher bitch.wil put up some pics if you wan
  17. like the look of them i bet you cant wait to get them out and about keep them together all the time they may fight now and again to work out probs and see who is top dog but they will make a very good team together all the best.
  18. yes well done mate i bet you was buzzing with the pup just keep at it and get the pup out as much as poss now that he is underway well done cracking pics.
  19. me and my mate have border terriers they have cracking coats not too small in size and work bush and cover very keen with their little tails going they knock out plenty of stuff for the whippet and lurcher.would highly recommend them also they aint to vocal very helpful if you are in areas that you aint meant to be in incidently i dont like my dogs being to noisy because all the quarry for miles away say to themselves heres the terrier lets f**k off.each to their own i suppose horses for courses.
  20. will make a great bushing dog with a good coat and a great nose for rats and rabbits all the best . mark
  21. try your best to make sure you get the dog steady with any livestock ie chickens, sheep,if the dog is too busy chasing these instead of the rats the farmer wont be too happy also are you using a ferret or a smoker if ferret the dog needs to be broke to them the best time is now when the dog is very young just play with the ferret so the dog can see it is your friend ,it will soon get used to it you can also try putting out a dish of milk for ferret and terrier get them used to being close together just keep a eye on them good luck.
