  1. Hope you enjoyed your stay in my bonnie wee country mate "gods own country" as we say up here, nice picts
  2. Lindsay,if i were looking for a decent rabbit dog "day and night"with better staminia and better feet i wouldnt overlook a bed x grey as these crosses are 1st class on rabbits, they come in about 22-23inch and if bred right you,ll get yourselve a wee belter of a bunny basher
  3. As i thought when i first posted this thread it would throw up a few different opinions, some even took it a bit too personal as if the finger was being pointed at them as they have started their pup at 6-7 months ect. This was not what this thread was all about. The thread was to hear different opinions which i made clear when it was wrote,Anyway good to hear peoples thoughts on the matter and see were there coming from with their thinking. I also think so

    FERRETING.

Another learning curve for yer wee whippet frank, good stuff big fella are you happy with her mouthing the bunnies in the nets ?i tend to learn them to stay off the nets until told to mouth them, can pay dividends when their older and expected to watch for bolters or others hitting the nets when your ocuppied, just my way of doing things Anyhow well done frank as this is good step in the right direction for her in the futre
  5. My old beddie cross makes a good gun dog now as his best running days are behind him.the old legs and feet are not what they were but his nose is still first class, this a bonus when roost shooting in semi darkness with thick cover below the trees. As for hard mouth, well considering hes been a good fox dog and now hes too slow for most running quarry he tends to take his frustrations out on shot quarry, wee fecker!!!but i supose it gives him a use in the kennels, keeps him happy and contented, hes served me well as a worker over many years so its fair he gets a bit of fun now in his twilight years
  6. Is it just me,or does there seem to be a few of the people on here start their lurchers a bit too early. Its just my opinion,im not having a go but pups seem to get run a bit too early for my liking by some.As my old grandfather used to say"patience is the key to train a handy dog and patience is the key to starting a young dog, nothing to be gained starting them too early but more to be lost, let them settle in lung and brain"I myself although take my pups on jaunts mooching with my older dogs to pick things up and get some idea what its all about usually start them running at about a year old,A
  7. go to the vet when it comes to these things, better be safe than sorry ect, this is the best advise i can give

    FOXES

in all the years ive coursed foxes day and night ,ive never seen a fox turn and face down a dog, under pressure ive seen them turn to snap at the dog but never stand its ground, pity really as it would make catchin them a bit easier what i have seen on a few occasions are foxes took by the backend with a young or knackered dog resulting in the fox turning to get in the first bite, usually to the face of the dog,a big tester for the dogs bottle, not just that night but also on its next fox,can make or break them.my old beddies last run on one to date was on the lamp recently was hit and rolled by
  9. oh no,not more pics......... only joking ma man, keep them pictures coming frank, yer wee whippet is coming on a treat bud and as people have already said its good to see her grow and develop into a fine wee bunny slayer, looking forward to see the finished article bud
  10. good post there maca, full respect to you for telling it the way it is i think youve made some really good points in what youve written which i totally agree with, well said lad.i myself have owned and run a hancock cross back in the early 90,s which was a decent dog, took all legal quarry with him,had his faults but this is something every cross has, have kept quite up to now on the matter but some of the stuff ive read about this man has made me cringe with embaresment, the one that spings to mind is "pedophile" something or other when this was brought up before, sure his kennels mabye not in th
  11. well done there frank, not a big bag but looks a fine morning to be out and about in the fresh air,now a question for you big fella, fast forward the clock to this time next season, you,ll have the whippet bitch with you and say that same fox slinks up that same hill towards the nets and doesnt wind or see you or the dog will you slip her or restrain her ? if your answer is she will be still be too young for charlie next season, what if the said morning was the season after that

  17. hey frank,we know who wears the troosers in that hoose mate, get your foot down mate and let her know about the education side of hunting, respect for the countryside ect and also remind the good lady about the other darker roads that too many youths go down these days taught correctly by a good outdoorsman, can be good for the young uns, learns them respect for the world around them and should make a better person of them as they mature into adults, but on the other hand she might just tell you to stop your gibbering!!!just like my own good lady would
  18. im glad to hear the beddie crosses are getting the credit they deserve on this site, haven,t heard too much mentioned about them since being on here, shame really as they are cracking wee dogs.only there lack of size that holds them back sometimes on the bigger stuff, but this said they never lack bottle, ive two at present, one is a pup not started yet, the other (first cross 23inch) whose working days are coming to a end now has been a smashing lurcher on rabbit, fox, rat and hare on the right ground and a bit of luck sometimes with the latter.ive had six of these crosses over the years and ive nev
  19. a big thanks to all who replied and gave advise, all of which is greatly appreciated.my pup now is on a raw diet and certianly agrees with this given the way he puts away his chuck........jesus,wouldn,t like to get my fingers in the way , anyway i,ve got some sa 37 to supplement his diet but would there be a need to still give a splash of cod liver oil as this supplement seems to have a wide range of vit and minerals ect.dont want to overload the pup with too much.i have always used cod liver oil when feeding but would feeding the both have an ill-affect? cheers and all the best for 07
