Many lads feed there lurchers them during hunting season?

What's more complicated than a colliex. There owners

Yes maybe. If a tyro is a lad that hunts for no other reason than he loves it I'm glad to be one. Lads you can have a night with if, your dogs a donkey they tell you its a donkey,If it looks like a donkey and runs like a demon they tell you that,And if your dogs makes a show of you they send you away with a few things they would try.No egos no motive's,no smoke blowing

What the fukc are you on about ? ........ Lol No need to be ignorant.. Ok what is that statement meant to mean ........ I think he means that although folk may disagree with each other, its better to be reading a debate such as this, than another, what shall i call my puppy? thread. I'd say Plummer did a lot to falsely hold up the collie x as a wonder dog, but then it was all a marketing campaign. But some folk just like collies. The first two dogs I ever hunted were both straight collies. They also worked stock, and were general all round companion dogs to me as a kid.
-
Don't you mean Phloxes? I dug out a few old Plummer books recently, and IMO most of what he wrote was fantasy and dreams. Not knocking him as he can't defend himself. As I've said, I've always been a collie x supporter, and the best I've known have had summat else in the mix. As a hunters type, rather than a slippers type dog they add far more than just brains. For me it's the mental and physical robustness that the best specimens exhibit that stands the test of time. Dont think many lads would disagrea with you,But he did have a good understanding of dogs imo. Couldnt really disagrea

I remember a long time reading a plumber book and i only read one or two,Now from what i understand he did more to publicize a collie x than probably any ones ever done for any dog,yet although he put a positive slant on it he admitted if you pushed them to hard they would say no. Yet to even suggest it might happen has shocked. No need to put down dogs though its just a thought on the internet. Just putting on my trainers then of to smash some Fox's.

Ive had a few pm saying they tried a collie x and it did this or that. Its up to them if they choose to say it on here or not. Remember the lad who was into he`s gsdx how they would pick and choose there hares ect, So it might well have something to do with too much brain. If your into a type its all part and parcel,I'm not so wouldn't take the risk of more than a little bit. Insaying that i love greyhounds if i thought i could keep one sound id go and get one tomorrow, and would easily forgive any faults that the breed would have. But i would still acknowledge the faults. PEACE
-
Lol If i had all the answers id be rich. I didnt just decide collies are clever so they will jack pick and choose,Any one who has been around lurchers will have heard it seen it,as bird says some seem to do it with a work load other lurchers wouldnt even think of it,If you have one that dosnt good on you,If it does well thats the chance you took. Because you dont like it dosnt make it any less true,If it is true??lol Ideation you~hopefully will end up with a decent all round lurcher,Just like you would if it didnt have the collie in it
-
2..8 guy yes i only had one when it was running true it was great, then it would start thinking and you would come home feeling battered lol.Thats why cur lads talk about partnships ect , its more complicated than your miss will ever be lol Ideation if it runs true its a bullx if it jacks its a colliex Plenty lads on this thread into there colliex saying they wouldnt have one with too much collie in for lamping,so im not that far of mark?
-
it didn't,some folk just over think things lol Or maybe when the truth gets in the way of a good story
-
See I wouldn't say that a real heavily collie blooded dog is necessarily easy to train. Some of them need far more patience, and a quieter, slower approach than some other breeds. Just going from what i've seen. Out of interest, where do you get the idea that everyone on here thinks that collie x's are some kind of magic wonder dog, and they are all the rage. There are far more bull x's and beady x's on here than there are collie blooded dogs. . . . . . and even more lurcher x lurchers. They really fell out of fashion for a while (at least in the public eye) but the collie x will a

Well as I was thinking of heavily collie blood lurcher, it's going to be slower in general to a dog with more running dog simple really. A quick fix because it's said to be easier to train, born with prey sense ,simple really. Was reading a article from a greyhound vet the other day he reckons if the derby winner had its tail painted yellow next year half would have there tail painted yellow. A bit like here a few pictures of a collie x with some rabbits every one thinks it's a magic ingredient.
-
Darcys just answered it better than i ever could. I think as i said on my second post its a quick fix,one that like the old collie comes and bites you on the ass when you least expect it. A nd a dog without pace to match is quarry is always going to struggle, couple that with brains?

Jack:Goes To see a litter of pups he heard of down the pub,Dam is black and white with a curly tail so a collie saluki.Sire is blue so a beddie or deerhoundx depending if the buyer wants a big or small dog. Jack hasn't read a book since school, but hes not daft he knows about computers and stuff the woman down the dole office has one, there not to be trusted. Gabriel:This lad has read all the books,I walked by night,Merle, even has a copy of blacks veterinary,Great for quoting on the hunting life.10,000 posts he in hes own right is quite a legend. No local pups for this lad,He has heard of

Seen most x's and lurcher x lurcher types do the same, with enough experience, or run too often when not fit true, not saying you got run it to standstill or when its not fit, but the collie x type will say when its had enough , bit more quicker than most other xs in the night, ive had few over the years and all have this mind-set attitude .Like said its what you doing with dog, if nice steady lamping +mooching+ferreting there hard to beat, but push them that bit harder ,and more so as they get older it will show more, they are a clever type dog they will do what they want not you.But

Where are all the other cur dog owners..Like there dogs looking around pretending they didnt see it
-
Depends on your expectations. I've been around collies and collie x's all my life, and when it comes down to the nitty gritty, when adding collie into a hunting dog, brains don't always pass on.Having followed this thread like many, when it comes down to "brains" in a lurcher, many don't know the difference between brains and "game sense". See i aint anti collie,I wouldnt want to much collie anymore than i would want to much bull or anything eles. Just thought it would make a interesting topic. But i do agree theres a big differance bettween brains and game sense. I guess collie would

Ever tried a bull x
-
And have you never had one thats over thought a situation,Or stood looking at you with a Sorry did you want me to chase that look.
-
Id think many a good collie cross, has dictated when its time to pack up lamping at some time or another. True or false
-
See to me thats a fault. Ihad one i used to enjoy sitting on a gate on a summers evening watching it stalk rabbits. Not so much fun when out with other lads wind howling, your turn to slip, dog crouches down tiptoeing up the beam,Stopping everytime rabbit peeps over grass,Youd want thick skin for the banter. Lets not pretend all lurcher lads are totally stupid, ask them the fault of collie xs "brains"
