  1. These things happen, all part of owning a dog unfortunately. and yes you are a big poof
  2. You waited an hour on a tuesday afternoon and then complained. Alot of people are at work.
  3. As the others say, what a stunning looking bitch. I'm a bit jealous.
  4. Australian formula greyhound diet and Wainwrights salmon and potato, soon to be swapping to CSJ instead of Wainwrights because of cost.
  5. Length of back is important for flexibilty and in turn that increases stride length. Of course these things are proportional and it's not a matter of longer is better but you would expect a running dog to have a decent length of back. What confuses me about certain crosses (like Huskies) is that they generally have short, flat, rigid backs because their conformation isn't for running it's for strength. It's also something to look for in Bull crosses because some (not all) lines of Bulls have short backs and that's not ideal for a running dog.
  6. I don't think you should attempt tight inbreeding/linebreeding unless you know the dog's ancestry and have an in depth knowledge of any health problems that you might be breeding in. There are other things to consider like smaller litter sizes and the dogs themselves becoming smaller. The ideal scenario is to breed dogs of similar type and different genes. Most breeds will have plenty of good breeding stock of the right type if you look hard enough so tight breeding is not really neccassary or worth the risk.
  7. Breeding standards for the Gull Terr are very low, they don't give a shit about breeding deaf dogs and dogs with terrible back ends...yes they're working dogs but I wouldn't want one when there are much better alternatives available here. If you want a proper working Bull Terrier then get an Ingles Bull Terrier but be prepared, they're bloody hard work. BTW there is alot of variety in the dogs over there and dogs that are supposed to be the same breed might not look anything like each other.
  8. If she's got 'clicky knees', which I take it you mean luxating patellas then you shouldn't even consider breeding her, it's a serious fault and hereditary.
  9. Thanks for the info Stabs, very interesting. I think their downfall could be that they are too specialist being ratters because as you say most terriers will do that job and the other terriers will do other jobs too. Maybe one day when I have the money, space and time I'll put some effort in to breeding them as they should be, I'd hate to see them go the way of so many other breeds.
  10. Holy ****! Reading a bit about them they say they're getting rarer and are on a list of dogs that are in danger of dissapearing that's why they can get away with charging that much??? Maybe it's a viscous circle? The more expensive they are the less they get used and bred, the less are bred the more expensive they are. I can't imagine it's because they can't do the job, I'm sure they could in the right hands with the right breeding.
  11. They're probably no good unless you're into mousing
  12. There's two types, one of them being the Toy version. The standard is supposed to be about 15-16" at the shoulder.
  13. They may have gone the wrong way like so many other breeds which is a shame, one of the oldest British breeds bred for a purpose and yet it seems they're not what they're supposed to be. If I had room I'd have some to try and get them back to how they used to be, you can't blame the breed if the breeders have messed it up.
  14. Line breeding is inbreeding but inbreeding is not neccassarily linebreeding. There's alot of disagreement about what linebreeding is but the general concensus is that it's the practice of trying extract a large amount of genetic material from one male dog...say you have a brilliant male dog, you basically breed that dog as many times as you can within the same 'line' of dogs so that you get it to pass on it's genes. If you do the same with a bitch then some people call it family breeding. The technicalities of exactly how this breeding is done is much more difficult to get concensus on.
  15. Originally bred as a ratting dog, I wondered if there is anyone still working them. I know they're quite rare so it's a long shot but I always find it interesting to here about other breeds and what they're like when working. Thanks
  16. A brilliant tool for checking for lameness, giving gentle exercise for a dog recovering from injury, exercising when the weather is really bad and as additional exercise. People always say there a lazy man's tool but most people use them for additional training, it can't replace the mental stimulation a walk gives.
  17. I'm sure all the local farmers love you lot.
  18. I feed mine a tin of sardines every couple of weeks which they love and is good for them too. Cod liver oil and/or dessicated liver tablets in small doses won't do any harm either.
  19. If he did get into drink and drugs (I've no idea if he did) then is it any wonder? If you make yourself a reputation in this game there's always some clueless **** who wants to destroy it.
  20. My brother had a Staff that never cocked it's leg. My Bull Terrier started cocking his sleg at about 8 months and now he even does it to have a shit...I think he's a bit confused lol.

  22. How do you think the Bull Terrier was created? Or the Boston Terrier? Or just about every other breed you can think of? Recognised by who? The K.C? Like they know there arse from their elbow.
  23. There have been alot of people involved in it over many years and it's way more complex than just doing a couple of crosses. If you don't want to call them Alaunts then fair enough, it's all semantics.
