Damn show pony! No place on a working mans working dog site, shame on you! But is she a merle?I personally wouldn't give a monkeys if she was pink with green spots aslong has she carries on doing what she does When you mentioned it i had a good look and you can see touches of red, but no funny eye and not much color, maybe she carries the red merle gene and expresses it a bit but not much, would be interesting to see if she passed any of the gene on. Interestingly, if you had two like her and didnt realise the merle gene in either and mated them could you produce a whole loa

From the American Dog Breeders association website... Health issues associated with the merle allele The (M) allele is an excellent example of pleiotropy, the phenomenon where a single allele can cause distinct and seeming unrelated physical effects. Even in the heterozygous (Mm) dog the (M) allele is associated with deafness, eye defects, and problems with the dogs immune system. This can be explained by understanding a little bit about the early fetal development of the dog. The process of coloration and color pattern in dogs begins with embryonic development. The specific cells

Some lines of AB are the real deal for Boar/big game hunting and can be really quick but I'm not sure what they'd bring to a coursing Dog.

I'll second that, I saw a cracking example of the Manchester in Mallorca and it was without doubt the most agile Dog I've ever seen. It was running up and down a rocky mountain face like a mountain goat on steroids. I'd love to see them put to work as I'm sure there aren't many Dogs that could match them for speed and agility.

There was a fella on here a while ago who was breeding them but he seemed really confused about what he was trying to achieve and was going for a certain look rather than anything functional. Not knocking the cross, just saying that be careful who you buy from if you do find a litter.

Very true, it's a real shame. No wonder people keep so quiet about the work they do trying to re-establish breeds. The Alaunt is one that various people have done alot of good work on and rightly so, they're stunning Dogs.

The Blue Paul was more like a regional variant of the Bull and Terriers of the time rather than a distinct breed and there were various colours, not all of them were blue as the name suggests. The Bullenbeisser is an interesting breed although the Boxer is a very similar Dog and may have taken alot of it's genes from it. BTW, technically speaking a breed cannot become 'extinct', only species become extinct. The genes still exist and the breed can be re-established if the knowledge and will is there, the same can't be said of species.

As has been said it's about establishing pack position. You need to establish you and your family's dominance before it becomes big enough to do damage. It should involve training in all sorts of areas, not just in regard to feeding time but in training to heel, sit, stay etc. That will help to establish the pack order. The Dog should only be fed after the family has eaten and you should be able to approach the Dog and remove it's food from it without so much as a snarl, if it does snarl them you need to pin it to the floor with a loud NO! Never show that you're intimidated by it, that's the w

do you have dog insurance do i need it
hogdog replied to JRTMAD2k10's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
If you can't afford really big vet's bills but you can afford £10-20 a month then yes it's worth it. If you have a lump sum that you can dip into when you need to then no it's not. They don't pay for small vet's bills, most will only pay for bills over and above a certain amount, maybe £60- and you still have to pay the first bit like you do with the excess on car insurance. Look into the terms and conditions that they offer because they're not all the same. -
Only Lyndon Ingles himself but he hardly ever breeds. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oG7mTilPJMLm8BBwVXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEydW5iMmtnBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMgRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA0RGUjVfOTU-/SIG=12psnn5a0/EXP=1291052642/**http%3a//www.thunderrockoldtymebullbreeds.co.uk/page_1206130627600.html

There are several different cause for bent legs, I think you did well to take the Vet's advice as they're the one who'd actually seen it.

There are plenty of working English Bulls and English bull crosses working in Oz but I'm sure there are no Ingles Bulls...yet.

It's possible to hybridise just about any sub species of the same genus. Most hybrids will be sterile, others won't. In reality hybridisation very rarely happens in the wild, mainly because most species have different breeding behaviours and will generally only mate with their own species.

I hate to put a downer on it but no-one's going to take any notice of this poll, firstly you can vote as many times as you like which makes it totally pointless and secondly it's a Farmer's weekly thing, you need it to be independent. If you want anyone to take any notice you need to raise a poll on the governement's petition website.

As above, in the eyes of the law 'hunting' is an intentional act - to prove that you were hunting an animal intent has to be proved.

As long as it's not too bad and doesn't need stitching just make sure it's clean and give it some rest...it should heal fine.

NEW PICS OF NALA MY 15WEEK OLD BULL X LURCHER
hogdog replied to gazzaburns's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
PMSL, she looks like a right pain in the arse, good luck with that one . -
An uncle of mine used to use his as a flushing Dog and he was quite good at it apparently. For the moment just get to know the Dog and see what comes naturally, there's alot of variety of character and body type in them.

She looks a little high in the back end (back legs longer than the front) in that first pic...Is she a young Dog by any chance? You sometimes see that in young Dogs and it straightens itself out. It's obviously not a problem if she's performing though, just one of those things. The chest looks a little shallower and broader than the average running dog, possibly the bull influence...again, not a problem as long as she does the job. I think she's a fine looking animal, just a little different that's all.

Osteochondrodysplasia - (form of dwarfism) can cause bendy legs but that seems unlikely if it's just one leg. Viral infections can cause it too - more likely.
-
Slipped discs can be incredibly painful so take it as easy with her as you possibly can and give her plenty of time to recover (possibly months). I would only give her the very minimum of exercise...you know what these Dogs are like, they're really tough and with painkillers in them they will push themselves too far and aggravate the injury.

Without wishing to bring too much reality to your happy rantings the vaccination would be a much cheaper option as the vaccine is taken orally and can be left out on bait for the badgers. Culling is hardly a cheap option either and there is no conclusive proof, despite tests being done that it has any effect on TB rates in cattle. The cheapest option is to cull the infected cattle, they are easy to find after all, and have better control over the movements of cattle around the country. Culling could be free if there werent a law against diggin them! cheap and practical And

Most people pin the line to the ground using a U shaped piece of metal about a metre from the machine then another one a few metres away from the machine which the line is then run at an angle to so the Dog doesn't run directly towards the machine. By far the best lure is a plastic bag...trust me we've tried everything. Anything heavier will mean the machine runs too slow and will run the risk of burning the motor out.
