30mm Tube Side Paralax Duplex Ret Matte 1/4 MOA Adjustment Low profile turrets Butler Creeks Boxed with registration docs Lifetime guarantee Excellent condition but for one mark which I have tried to show on the pics, The obj bell has a mark on it where it has had a little knock (fuming  don't know how it happened) but there is no effect on performance obviously and can't be seen with the BC'c fitted. No ring marks of crimping. This is currently in use as my stalking scope and performs very well. The last pic looks like the scope is marked but it is not (other

tips on how to convince farmers
Treacle Trackpad replied to cassshantia's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
If your pheasant shoot relies on woodland for its cover and you have a lot of Roe you will notice the browse line which will remove cover for the birds. Also if the deer are managed properly he will still see them, they'll just be in a better state and nicer to look at. Depending on the land you may get an influx of youngens just before the rut too. -

Midland Gun Company 12g OU. Single trigger ejector, spotless bores, tight action, 28" barrels, choked 1/2 & 3/4. One of the ejectors can be a bit tempromental but other than that it is in good nick. LOP is 14". £250. Please pm with any questions. Prefer F2F but would consider RFD transfer at buyers cost. Cheers Steve

First Deer of 2011 and first with John Robbo
Treacle Trackpad replied to Groach's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Nice one George. If the green gralloch was undamaged and you're still wondering where the green at the strike site came from it is not unknown for a bit of puke to come out when the bullet hits, not common but not unknown. -
Well in Rab. I wish there was some of them by me.

Work out how much you can afford and go from there. I'm considering the new Minox scopes at the mo, just need to have a gander through one and compare it to my Leup. As far as what mag etc, that also attracts a 'depends' answer. What are you shooting and at what distances?

Doe cull before work
Treacle Trackpad replied to Treacle Trackpad's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
I got it from here when they were £30, a bit expensive now (even then) but very handy. I had to carry this doe up a steep incline to gralloch it and the strap was ideal for the job if you don't want to fanny around with a roe sack. Easy enough to make out of saddle leather I suppose, if you know someone who can do it. -
I wasn't due in work until 10am this morning so I planned a bit of a sit in a highseat as time was tight and I didn't want to be wandering off around the estate and miss work. Anyway, I got in the seat at 7am just as it was getting a bit light and settled in for the sunrise. I could just see through the trees when I heard a rustle to the right and turned slowly just to see a squizzer, but wait, two shadows moving through the trees about 50 yards out to my right, unidentified but had to be deer. Two options, wait and see if they carry on in their current direction and hope the come left and

It deffinately touched a rib on the way in and it's not the first to explode uncontrolably and make a right mess. It's not like I push them hard either, only around the 2600 mark. I've now moved onto Sierra Gamekings and am very happy with the results, soft points all the way for me now. These things are like big V-Max and even blow up on rabbits too. I have used them on deer and never again, the last Roe I shot with one of these had an exit hole that I could get my head in, no exageration . Great on fox tho I'd say your bullet hit bone mate, i've been using the 95sst a

If it's like my Lee press and the primers are supposed to go down the inside of the press and down the shute you will need to have the primer attachment (the bit you would use to press the primers in) fitted as this knocks the removed primer in the right direction and down the tube. HTH

My quickest doe so far.
Treacle Trackpad replied to Treacle Trackpad's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Yeah, wasn't looking forward to that too much however the 2 mile up hill walk out with the doe in a roe sack was emotional, I was stripped down to my shirt it was such hard going. -
There are some nice tales of good stalks on the forum, unfortunately my latest cull was not so interesting . This was part of an estate cull so I was up a tree in a seat. Having occupied the same seat last week I was expecting a good couple of hours freezing my cobblers off but not so this afternoon. I managed to crunch up to the seat in the snow and made a bit of a meal of getting settled so expected any wildlife within a square kilometre to have legged it. I got settled, loaded up and checked my watch..2:45pm. Hmmm what was that? a movement to my front about 50 yards away, up with the

I have a 695 (long action version of the 595) and a rem 700 but vssf rather than sps. If you are not bothered about stainless I would go for the 595. If you can find a SS 595 I would definately go for that. I have heard tell that the sps steel is not 'proper' stainless and is inferior to the likes of the older vssf, which has very good steel. Both will be accurate, and do what you want them to do so it's up to you really. Don't discount the T3, which a lot of people slate but I used to have one of them too and for a factory rifle it was super accurate and quite robust.

Couple of things to consider, firstly, when you're on the prarie there are very few things for sound to bounce back to you from, therefore it won't seem as noisy as when in a farmer's field with boundary hedges all round you. Secondly, a moderator will help to contain the expanding gasses at the muzzle which can de-stabilise a bullet as they overtake it, this can aid accuracy. This said, if I could shoot without a mod I would

POI shift after fitting bipod
Treacle Trackpad replied to matt_hooks's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
I would suggest that this is a case of the stock touching the barrel when the bipod is fitted. If the barrel is free floated (business card fits between stock and barrel all the way up to the action) check it again when resting on the pod, I bet it is now touching, especially if you have a mod fitted. 18" is far too much to be related to technique change. Is it a very slim sporter barrel? -
I have a T8 on my 6.5x55. I'm not keen on it but it does the job. If I had the choice again I would go for an ASE Northstar.

Cobblers it's a great rabbit round, as long as you don't want to eat them afterwards, but lets face it rabbits taste like crap anyway.
