  1. bitches for me, dont get me wrong iv had some good dogs, but IMO the bitches always appeared to try harder.
  2. sorry to hear that bud, your mate sounds like a complete tosser. I wouldnt give him daylight in a dark corner. whats he doing taking you lamping in a area that has dangers like that when both you and your dog dont know the lay out. i know its hard bud, but go out get yourself another dog, worst thing you can do is sit an dwell over it, ones thing for sure id never go out with that guy again
  3. hi , i have 2 dogs one thats a 3/4 whippet 1/grey, 21" and a grey/sal x whippet/grey which should reach 24". the smaller one holds his own , and proves his size is more than ample, however, on the hills his lack of height is a big difference as to the slightly taller type. but bare and mind , we can only take rabbits and rats. Me personally i try to stay away from heavy boned dogs, as there turning i find is not as good, that is just my personal opinion. as to dogs 25"+ can sometimes attract the wrong attention , so again i try and not go above 25. i do think its good your asking advice b
  4. trust me mate, he did. if at the beginning of the day, you told me wat was goin to be the eventual outcome id have said "no chance" but my god he suprised me big time, heart of a lion is the only way to describe it, many a dog iv had in the past have tried the same an most have failed so , now im thinkin god what next
  5. what a day iv had, im over the moon, my dog single handedly pulled off the chase of a life time, after a good 9 min chase and a hard felt fight at the end, pulled the the biggest prize you can get, aboslutely over the moon. took a very hard knock ,but didnt sway him in the slightest, if anything, madehim more determined to come out winner. the RABBIT (IF YA CATCH MY MEANIN) shall keep me goin for a while
  6. cheers bud, dont know how long it will last with those jess,s on though.
  7. HI i was out with my lurchers this morn, and spotted a "HARRIS HAWK" which still had its jess's on. there appreared to be no-one around, and the bird may well have been anescape or lost , if anyone has lost one recently then pm me as this is the seconed time its been spotted
  8. just been out all morning, and not seen a single rabbit. I was out in an area that was litterly crawling with them 10 years ago, now nothing, even the old burrows are clogged up and appear unused, seen plenty of other wildlife , but was very suprised at the amounts of buzzards in the area. also came across someones harris hawk that still had the jess's on, but there appeared to be no-one around, so if anyone in north glasgow has lost a harris, pm me
  9. fair play to you bud in keeping an eye on all animals in your area. I might need to adopt your policy, as the fox population here is through the roof, and rabbits are very few and far between. the size of some of the foxes around is unbelievable, and yet it appears to be only the folk of the hunting background noticing the sharp demise of the common rabbit. these so called do gooders, enforcing the ban are slowly but surely f@cking up the UKS eco-system. What is it they are really trying to acheive, the erradication of the rabbit permantly. I am beginning to think, with VHD, mixxy, (any oth
  10. didnt get to many pics , tbh , it was really last thing on my mind
  11. the pics iv got are all to big , i will upload them smaller soon
  12. just back in from a good day, although i only ended up with one older dog an one youngster. took a few pics of the area, snow was really deep, got 2 from about 8 chases, although seen a hell of a lot more. Dont know if the snow was just too deep, plenty of feathered types going around too, also ended up with one of those aswell, so didnt do to bad. came across a lot of deer, but decided against running them as my dogs are still fairly young and inexperienced, and of course there is a ban lol
  13. this may well be the cause http://www.rabbit.org/care/vhd.html
  14. despite what other people have said, you HAVE done the right thing by asking advice, its up to you whether you put this advice to good use. Ithink its better doing what you have done, rather than wait till your dog actually attacks or even kills a sheep. My advice with the extenbale lead is do not be to quick to let her off it, be patient, she will come good in the end. ATB
  15. up there first light be off hill about 3 i hope , let you know how we get on
  16. Fingers crossed for tom, looking forward to heading up the highland early bells for some decent runs, taking 2 experienced dogs and one youngster, hopefully get a few good pics. aiming for pure whites so should be a good test for the dogs
  17. Bg day tom, gonna test my 11 month old pup on the blues big time

  18. allow her on an extendable lead as soon as she appears to be heading for them, a short sharp tug,if she persists, asize 8 on the backside, an she will soon learn. might seem harsh , but its better than the farmers alternative. ATB
  19. iv got a young one just now, pretty much starting her off in same way as normal. Although the rabbits are harder to come across. other than that she is just running alongside the older one when he out looking for the rabbits big cousins
  20. i didnt mean it like that ya daft bugger! i could tell you exactly where it was, but i doubt anyone would bother having a sniff..you live miles away lol im just on about the people around my area that hunt a certain bit of land untill its f****d for everyone..and keeping it quiet from them benefits me and my mate..lol i know what you meant rob, lol im no daft, i was just asking in "your own opinion" obv no-one wants to attract more people to there chosen ground, if its a good area lol. But what i meant in the area you go, are the numbers the same as 10 years ago to now, or do you think th
  21. dont know the guy personally ,but reading some of his threads from time to time certainly made me laugh. At the end of the day, his posts didnt seem to out of order, i got the impression he loved playing devils advocate at times, or just at the genral wind-up. its good to have someone like that at times. IMO.
  22. lol best off to keep things hush hush aint it.. im not asking people to reveal there stomping grounds, im just simply asking if you as an individual have noticed any difference in your areas. being totally honest i love the area im at, as there seems to be vast amounts that dont see many dogs other than mine, but for teaching pups, id prefer to start on bunnies then work up, which is proving difficult
  23. YEAH i agree to that, during last summer i was down in cresswell (east coast) with my father. we were there for some fishing, he took his lakeland/whippet, and she was going mental, the rabbits were running under the caravan while we were in it. whenwe were fishing on th beach the rabbits were in droves over the dunes. we didnt allow her off as we dont really like doing that during summer months, but the dog was havin fits at the amount of bunnies crossing our paths. But now we are back up here even the golf courses seem deserted of bunnies
  24. iv had this conversation with a few people recently, and thought it was just me. But up where i am, there does appear to be a huge dent in the rabbit population. i stay in an area where 10 years ago seeing 30 to 40 rabbits in a night was pretty much an everyday occurrence, now im lucky to see a handful. There has been a huge in increase in foxes, hares, and deer along with various buzzards and other birds of prey. imjust wondering, has this been the case over much of the UK. It cant be due to hunting , as there are not many people venture out my direction, with dogs anymore, also with the
  25. what is wrong with people who steal other peoples dogs. they deserve to be hung up on meat hooks. i think ppl doing this are the lowest of the low hope you get your dog back mate
