  1. obviously a popular mix, didn't 'chalky' do similar years ago with 'lucy', and 'col ted walsh' in lurchers and longdogs described how to breed his ideal lurcher using this blend, but given today's 3/8 x 5/8 etc what would be the ideal mix ie 1st x collie greyhound to a 3/4 greyhound deerhound or a 1st x deerhound greyhound to a 3/8 collie 5/8 greyhound or.....................?
  2. the general consensus seems to be pro jumping, i reckon the more experience of different jumps (walls, gates, fences, logs, ditches etc) in a variety of places the more confidence in it's own ability the dog will have, and the more they learn the safer they become although accidents will always be unavoidable
  3. and we've got early morning walks (to avoid the heat) or long pavement walks in the pissing rain..............jealous......not effin much
  4. good pics mate, we've not had the weather like you guys but oor mutts still like a wee dip to cool down
  5. you should have gave me a shout jim id have got better pics
  6. why? is that a never yes or a never no ?
  7. it's not letting me watch mate
  8. maybe some of the more learned (or older) members will help but.....didn't mick douglas breed these types ?
  9. must admit i've always had a liking for these types, i had one this way bred 30 yrs ago and nothing since has come close, he really was my once in a lifetime i think, but then again i was younger had loads of time and energy and he got plenty practise
  10. a question mate, with the greatest respect...............would your dog have hurt herself as much if you'd taught her to jump ?
  11. must have been a big gate jim, cos she really can jump , 'mists' had a few wee tears bud, would she have had less if she couldn't jump ?
  12. So, have you actually trained your dogs not to jump in the dark? Surely if the dog is in hot pursuit and whatever it's chasing nips through a fence and pops over a wall the dog will be up and over too - especially if it jumps the same obstacles through the day? How do you stop them from jumping at night??? is this where the argument ......there is no such thing as an allrounder comes from? or (controversially) is that why we use collie bred dogs that can think a little? my monies on the latter
  13. like 'casso' say's you' if they are you focussed recall, retrieve, jumping, obedience everything is so much easier
  14. the lampers i know who discourage it baffle me........surely the quickest quietest way into a field is over the gate? no twanging wire or clanking gates
  15. no, some folk think teaching a dog to jump can lead to trouble.....ie a lamping dog jumping into the unknown in the dark......i've had a dog hot on quarry that turned as the dog jumped, poor ben tried to turn mid jump and landed on the barbed wire...........if he hadn't been taught to jump the accident wouldn't have happened.....i've seen a deglove injury on a whippet that was a non jumper but it's high prey drive made it try and dive through a fence after a rabbit.......to jump or not that is the question?
  16. what started as a wee bit of local banter has raised the question.....should our dogs jump or not? the old adage hjkc would suggest yes, docherty in his book says no jumping no hares, i know some lampers discourage it, i've seen dogs come a cropper either way but on balance i'm a fan are you? a few pics from this morning
  17. he looks a belter bud, have you heard from the guy up here who got the 2 bitches?
  18. 'keeps' on here has a absolute cracker 3/4 bred 'indie', i think he's getting on a bit now but i'm sure if you spoke to her she'd keep you right, why not search on here for 'indie' there are some amazing pics of him
  19. pup looks like it's come off a trampoline scott but she's getting smarter every time i see her maybe we'll shame bob into seeing pics of his 'lurcher' jumping and retrieving bud from this to this come on bob we've set the standard.............................
  20. and wev'e not been missed out
  21. do right by him and he'll spread the word, more will follow. well done
  22. it's defy moron use a spellchecker ffs
  23. i know the most common way is greyhound sire and logic says 50 / 50 no matter what way round but if you own a bitch you can have your pick of studs. no need to use a 'cast' greyhound if you can get your hands on a decent collie there are lots of top greyhounds at stud if you were being really picky i suppose you could get straws from all sorts, top studs, derby winners even australian champs.
  24. been there bud, the hardest of times. console yourself with the life and times you had over the years. atb
  25. just a wee bit off topic guy's.....before i go out for night shift.....hancock does it one way and i think it was frankel who hinted another way......is it important which way bred ie collie dam greyhound sire or vice versa?
