Just sourced an organic butcher's , who has given me a wagon load of bones and scraps. Went through it and discovered a good amount of pork bones along with lamb, and beef and pork scraps. Heard somewhere before that this was a no no for running dogs, was wondering has anybody any information? P.S this is an organic butchers, the bones look nice and meaty?

WHAT WAY ARE WOLF AND DELBOY BRED?
-
Alright lads, just wondering what coursing dogs are kicking out the best pups over there? Are they line bred or random? In Ireland we hear various crosses that are surfacing over here, and was wondering what sort of quality is in them? The PUPS that are popping up over here are of DELBOY, CASPER, DIGGER, just wondering your thoughts?

Mostly coursing I do. Sucess is the name of the game with pups, a dropped rabbit at around eight months, and then at around a year or so when the dog has matured , a stung hare. I try to dictate the tempo of hunts(not often sucessful) but the young dog is only slipped on a clean bit of ground, with a dog who is bona fide and with pips, a dog who knows the story with obstacles and the wiles of a hare, has worked so far Try to avoid rabbits with a coursing dog, think it makes them cute to ditches, I like coursing dogs to be conditioned to the fact their true quarry runs a long time.

Thanks lads, put her on antibiotics

Alright lads, Have a question - pupped a bitch. The pups are eight weeks old, bitch still has a bit of bloody discharge since, the thing about it is that my two young dogs(16th months) are very interested in the bitch as if she is in heat, constantly mounting? Bitch ates them! Older dog and father of pups has no interest. Anybody thoughts on this?

Seen these dogs go. Man was right a good lurcher would blow them out of the water, but graceful big things. We got three hares that day all accounted for by the lurchers. Nice fella, but seemed more interested in breeding programs, and bizarrely for non hunters? Wolfhound x deerhound!Showed us a nice piece of land big peat bog.
-
JIGSAW, How do his dogs do on long ears? I met a man who had deerhounds in Ireland a few years ago who said they never caught one.
-
Nice bitch, what's his breeding program? Looks whippet, and bedy? And what type of lung did the bitch posess?

I enquired about this guy before, I heard about these dogs years ago. Was fascinated that he had success with non saluki stuff on lincoln! Then judging from posts, it seems he's introduced saluki to his strain. So I think my initial query still stands, is there a non saluki strain exist that can compete on the fens? And I mean compete, a dog that is regular taking 3/4 on the big land?
-
To all those who indulge in long ears? Pre ban and what not? Longest run I ever seen was doubled up through every type of terrain, the hare jumped when my mobile rang at 11 o'clock and ended at exactly seven minutes later when the mobile rang again, and beat the dogs through an old farm machinery graveyard. Give us a few of your yarns. P.S I never seen the dog I owned again, the b*****d had gotten into a terrible habit of trailing missed hares the previous week.

Can someone tell me what this has to do with running dogs? Wrong forum mate.

WHERE ARE ARE THE BEST HARES (OBVIOUSLY PRE BAN)
BRAN replied to tyson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I was using Clonmell as an example, to state area ( the Republic Of Ireland) so as to clarify that the hare we run is not the wanky blue hare. And in certain areas in the North of Ireland like Tyrone and some parts of South Derry there are European Brown hares, which are super wanky! I course hares with lurchers, not greyhounds, and believe you mate it's not about pace with me! It's the running of the hare on his land not in a park. At the end of the day we're all coursing men so debate is encouraged, and there is nothing more to add except we as Irish agree to disagree with those who are Eng -
WHERE ARE ARE THE BEST HARES (OBVIOUSLY PRE BAN)
BRAN replied to tyson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Snoop, you made a statement like you had specific facts and data that proved the Brown hare is faster than the Irish hare, then came back with the only facts that you spoke to people who coursed both, and you coursed brown hares as your proof? Which in reality means nothing. I told you I coursed both, and in my opinion the Irish hare, not the "blue", "red", "brown" but the hare that runs wild in the free state of Ireland. The hare that is coursed at Clonmell the biggest coursing competition in the world (legal granted) is the best hare. What Scandinavia, or wherever has got to do with it I do -
WHERE ARE ARE THE BEST HARES (OBVIOUSLY PRE BAN)
BRAN replied to tyson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Snoop, have you evidence of what hare is the fastest? I find that hard to believe. Coursed them both, Irish hare is a better hare in my opinion, spoke about it before, an Irish hare has a million places to escape and most know what a dog is. By the way not diminishing the strength of the brown hare, raced hares on lincoln, and altcar that a barrat light fifty couldn't stop! -
Near Dub frank now. Some good lines down there Frank - mostly travellers in Tuam if I'm correct. And the only way you get them is with a blank cheque and their balls cut off! And before anybody gets on their high horse I mean nuetered by a vet, before they are sold on.
-
Nice pup Frank, looks great country to rear a pup? Lot's of places to investigate, obstacles. Be non stop education Whereabouts on the emerald Isle are you?
-
Alright mate, where is the parents from? I heard Irish lady is long gone. Strong looking pup

What happened to ASD he was good crack?

Ran the lurcher today but is peeing blood
BRAN replied to Terrier Stuff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Had this before, took dog to the vet. The vet a game old sort, said this wasn't to be fretted too much over, he enquired about how much running the dog had had, and explained it in the simplest lay man's terms that it was similar to a young lad being broke in on a building site, his hands will bleed because they're soft. My dog in question peed blood after his first long course, it had no effect on his performance again, in fact it in some ways made him, as the race was in the dog, never no problems again. -
When I was a lot younger, I was carted off to the states for the summer to "get away from the conflict in Northern Ireland", marooned up in washington state, pining for lurchers, ferrets, I discovered that my host's owned a pampered ridegback. One day I asked to take him a walk, cut through some local backwoods where I stumbled upon a porcupine, so I slipped the ridgeback after a few barks, the porcupine reversed slam bang into the dog, it cost the hosts 400 dollars in vet's bills The owners couldn't understand how a porcupine would be that close to suburbia  Little did they know

Fair play Irish lurcher, as some know I've had my fair share of problems with these lamps. Have you got an e mail address for this guy? Well done to you for writing to Light force and making them aware of the problem,Ive made my gaurantee void by modifying the connections and strengthening them,I should have done as you did and complained to the suppliers, hopefully they may rectify the problem, and upgrade their leads so they are the equal of their excellent lamp.Once again well done! Inan.

Good lad, but what do you mean "saluki studs in pet shops?" are they salukis for sale? Or are their stud services for sale?
-
Heard about that guy Sagar, has he not got any ones now?

Don't doubt it mate about kent. Think the hare is ultimate running quarry, seen them take dogs over quarries, main roads , sew dogs through five five strand electric wire, smack bang through herds of cattle. One went through a five bar gate across a motorway, through another gate, dog through some fluke of nature made it across motorway intact through gate just as he reached the hare it went through another gate at the bottom of the same field and back across same motorway! Closed my eyes and gritted my teeth expecting the big bang, opened them to see the dog cruising on the scent and no hare
