  1. so back to the original question - does anyone use a shorthaired pointer for fox?
  2. thought id add - i dont mean to say that labs are just trialling dogs, some of the best working dogs ive ever seen have been labs (mainly drakeshead blood) but goldens suit me better
  3. lets face it, if you want an earthdog to do the job day in day out in tight earths then a stafford isnt for you... if you want a great laugh with a fun little dog then it could be for you. plus, i look dead tough walking my dog around
  4. as far as i can see at the moment goldens are out of vogue in the gundog world, its also alot harder to get a good working pup than it is a working lab or springer. ive found that goldens also work differently, now this difference suits me well but some dont like it. for example a good golden will wind scent as well as ground scent, which has been invaluable to me and mine will also find birds that the labs have missed. Alot of the blokes around here are into field trialling etc as well which the labs really seem to thrive at. i use mine every day on live game, so a cracking dummy dog aint m
  5. GTO did any of that little bitch's line work?
  6. GTO did any of that little bitch's line work?

  8. wish i could have seen her in the flesh stabs.. here's to many more like her
  9. it would stop the terrier section filling up with posts of bull breeds
  10. sorry to hear that, she looks like she could have been useful.. was she young?
  11. GTO did they both go to ground? mushroom how does yours get on above ground?
  12. she looks like she was finer built than a pure stafford, stabs, do you think this was an advantage for her? ie, not having a huge chest and head
  13. im sure i read that there was one in the making???
  14. just wondering if there's a bull breeds section on the way again? as in, working bull breeds.
  15. a GWP isnt really the dog for a driven shoot then hey. Kiwi how many dogs do you have man?
  16. great stuff man, good to see someone breeding worthwhile dogs
  17. i wouldnt go with a staf mate, maybe a well bred shep/grey? could be handy
  18. Thanks for the response flak.. very useful dogs, im tempted but it will a few years down the line
  19. basically lads, dont wear flatcaps or drive landies... they wont suspect a thing
  20. Two nice dogs there mate thanks fella, alot of time and effort's been put into them
  21. i agree, GWP's are great dogs that excell in their field, but the humble retriever is often overlooked
  22. i have a retriever and a sprocker, both very hard working dogs but if i had to choose, the retriever would c me out on top every time. she hits cover like an express train, windscents and groundscents, very biddable and loyal, easily handleable, she can turn her hand (paw?) to any sort of work, be it driven shooting, rough shooting, bushing, trailing wounded game and angry foxes.... the spaniel is also a very useful dog but just isnt as smart and switched on. hope this helps
