  1. We voted overwhelmingly AGAINST a a regional assembly a few years ago when John Prescott tried to foist another layer of government on us...........
  2. I haven't seen the reasons WHY the Scots rejected independence by such a big margin, but my guess would be; 1, Currency; Salmond was insisting up to the end that there would be monetary Union, even though every one else was insisting there wouldn't be ! He had no back up plan, he couldn't tell the people what currency they would use if the rUK wasn't bluffing. 2, Business; The pound dropped and there was a flight of money out of Scotland and a selling of shares in Scottish based companies when it looked like there might be a "yes" vote. Today the pound rallied three cents on the dola
  3. "Pit Villages" ; Ahhh, I remember them......we had a few in the North East; now they are just "Villages"...........
  4. Scotland's capital city has just voted overwhelmingly "no", and even Salmonds home turf, Aberdeenshire voted "no", surely that must tell the "yes" voters something ?
  5. Glasgow had, I think, the lowest turnout of the 32 councils. It was a "yes" city, if it had a 90/95% turnout it may have made a difference if it is close when the final results come in. Why blame the people who did vote, surely the blame lies with them who didn't ?
  6. Maybe you should be more ashamed of the "yes" voters who couldn't be bothered to turnout, especially in Glasgow.
  7. Looks like the quiet majority have walloped the noisy minority.
  8. Why would they be worried ? It looks like a "no" vote. first vote to the "no's" in Clackmannanshire.
  9. Why would they be worried ? It looks like a "no" vote.
  10. Plaid Cymru leader has just said if the vote is "no", Wales will not be happy with Scotland getting a disproportionate Barnett Formula allowance. So no matter which way the vote goes, there are going to be unhappy people throughout the whole of the UK.
  11. Lab, it didn't , it was just a rumour. It's against the law for a polling station to close early, even if there was 100% turnout.
  12. But England doesn't rule Scotland, they're both part of a union and Scotland has MPs, Ministers and even Prime Ministers in the UK parliament. Scotland, like Wales and Northern Ireland, has it's own parliament as well. England is alone in the union not having it's own parliament ! Hopefully all this will change and England will get its own parliament and start governing itself without interference from Scots, Welsh and NI MPs !
  13. Lab, if your comment is aimed at me, would you like to refute what I said ? I understand what I said is hypothetical, but possible. Maybe you could give your views ?
  14. Whichever way the vote goes, things will change, probably not for the best. There will be a lot of bitterness, not just between "yes's" and "no's", but also between English and Scots. If there is a "yes" vote, possibly almost 50% of the population that wanted to stay in the UK will feel betrayed. If the vote is "no" and the bribes that Cameron, Glegg, Miliband and Brown have offered to Scotland are honoured, then an awfull lot of English,(who will have to pay for it), will be well pissed off ! A no win situation for everybody but Salmond, as far as I can see.
  15. But Scotland wanted a Labour government, and voted for, and got one three times in a row, so how can you say you ,(Scotland), never gets the government it votes for ? I never get the government I vote for, but hopefully some day UKIP will govern England.
  16. How can you say "Scotland has never got the government it voted for" ? Scotland voted overwhelmingly Labour and got them from 1997 to 2010 !
  17. I think a generation is generally accepted to be between 25 and 30 years, but Salmond seems to make up his own rules, so it may only be 10 years in his mind !
  18. They could allways declare UDI, ( universal Declaration of Independence ) , just as Ian Smith did in Rhodesia. But just look how that turned out; it went from "the bread basket of Africa", to the "basket case of Africa"' Zimbabwe !!!!
  19. The vote in the 70s was for devolution, not independence. They can keep voting forever or until there is a yes vote, in the event of a no vote today, although Salmond has said if it is a no vote, he wouldn't want another vote for at least a "generation", however long that means.
  20. Sorry for my mistake mate, whatever the vote I wish you well.
  21. Results will start coming in around 2am on Friday morning. We will know the result around 6am. I'm going for a very narrow "no" win, but hope its a yes, as I'm English and a "yes" vote will be better for England .
  22. Explain. So the no voters can say they are truly Scottish but want to be ruled by an English government.Thats the best one yet How many Scottish MPs are in the "English" government ? How many Ministers are Scottish in the "English" government, how many Scottish Prime Ministers have we had ???????????
