  1. thats exzactly how my lad is at the moment no matter how long were out walking/hunting even all night second pen door closes he starts and its fair annoying That isn't "carrying on for no reason", this happens mainly when you shut the door or leave the dog so it is the dog letting you know it isn't too fond of being left. A Kong is a hollowed cylindrical rubber toy that you can fill with part of the dog's daily meal to give them the opportunity to chew and provides a bit of mental stimulation for them whilst they are on their own. Providing a dog with one of these every time you leav
  2. always one lol Bamboo splints down the finger nails help people to think about what they type as it better be dam worth the pain, similar scenario don't you think?.
  3. How long have you had him? Is there a set routine to the day with your dog? Have you tried leaving soemthing with him to occupy him when you go, I know there is no real subsitute for company with their best mate but a frozen kong stuffed with meat and cream cheese is a decent attempt.
  4. A dog whinges for two reasons really: 1. Pain 2. To get something. IF you are dead sure the dog isn;t in any pain then they will whinge for something such as attention. This becomes a learned behaviour if the dog gets attention or what it wants when it whinges. Make sure that everybody in the house is clear that if the dog whinges it doesn't get anything, not even eye contact because telling a dog off is still attention regardless if it is good or bad attention. Ignore all whinging. If the dog whinges whilst you are getting its food ready then stop and walk away - "You doing t
  5. First you need some traps bud and a bag to put them in. Then find somthing to use as a probe for finding tunnels...i use an old electric fence bar.. the type that have a loop on the top. You need a knife for starting your hole.. as it need to be smaller than the width of a troul and your traps. Find an old spade or shovel and cut off the T handle or use two hammers as i do..this is to make the hole wider and faiming up the base of tunnel..Easy moling is ALL about setting your trap properly and making sure its firmly set in the tunnel and you do this by making sure the soil is very firm on all
  6. Just had a look where you are and it looks like there is plenty of land to go at up there. Draw a triangle from Peterlee to Middleborough and Sedgefield, get a letter drawn up, use the web to find the details of the folk that might require pest control in that triangle and get the letters sent off. I'm sending out 15 letters today after the last 10 failed before that and from the first ever 30 I sent I had two responses and now have two small permissions. Out of 55 letters I will still be happy with two local permissions - one has rabbits, the odd pigeon and corvids and the other I am only
  7. I've posted a few threads and posts on here asking about how to get these silly long dogs to do when they say on the tin and have tried various methods that have worked on other manufacturers of dogs but these things just seem to not give a stuff. That is until you bite the bullet and make a right tw@ of yourself in front of the world's population. It is almost liek the dog is saying "I will only do what you ask if you dance for me. How badly do oy need me to do this favour for you? Then you must perform for me and tell me what you require of me through the medium of modern dance". A small
  8. Ah, I don't trust my abilities with that electrickery witchcraft and I certainly don't want to burn anything down so I'll get my mate's sparky dad to wire it up proper, plus as I'll be selling in a couple of years it's better to get certified work done, especially if it's done for mate's rates. Finding a cheap chest freezer or two is pretty hard to do - mission accepted though.
  9. Cheers Tomo. That looks ideal, when can I move in? Definitely need some electrics wiring in so I can put a heat lamp in the main bit and of course make the freezers work. Those raised beds look pretty sturdy, could have a bunk system in and then get loads more dogs The concrete roof on mine leaks so that needs to be taken care of first and I might put a slanted roof on from the house to the back of the outhouses, just a bit worries about the wind deciding it is no longer a required feature. A roof will alos provide the opportunity to put a guttering system on and collect the water as
  10. Get yourself down here for a weekend, I will let you fill yer boots with woodies Alex Would love to but the early morning and late evening drive would kill me and no doubt I'd get as far as Dartford and realise I'd forgotten to charge the gun or something ridiculous
  11. I've got two outhouses that I am going to use as kennels so any pics of people's curren tones would be much appreciated for ideas. I am going to be using the smaller one to house a couple of chest freezers to keep all the food in and the larger one will be for the three dogs (two collies and a saluki cross. I am tossing a coin about the indoor design of the kennel as I think a raised bedding area would be required as the doors face the common direction of the wind so a come and go door system might be needed. Not sure what to put in that is practical.
  12. Glad to hear all are doing well. Nothibng like puppy pics to turn hardened iron knuckled men into weak kneed lovies
  13. I'm lucky if I see a woody let alone get the crosshairs on it. I have one that visits my garden but I like seeing that one so i feed it - that's what I tell the GF, really I want it to spread the word that my place is the best eating around to all of its mates and then I can FINALLY have myself a pie. I can even taste the imaginary pie now. Good grief it's nice. I've dribbled down my t-shirt.
  14. Takes me back to the rice fields of Nam with Charlie's hot breath hanging in the air making the rain feel like icey daggers that paved the way on the Ho Chi Minh trail.
  15. I use a tracer LedRay tactical 400. Comes with pressure switch, two rechargeables, recharger and a multitude of filters. Works a treat and you can vary the intensity of the bulb at the press of a button. Plus it comes in a box like a cordless power tool so it packs away neatly if you need.
  16. It's always best to keep on the right side of the permission depsite not wanting to reduce your stock One of my permissions wants me to get a mate in with the ferrets to clear the two big warrens but as there are four or five large rammed warrens off of their land on public land it won't be long before the numbers are back up and the sport is thick and fast again. Great shooting and nice piece of kit.
  17. Sounds like a productive evening SAM. What was your high score on the game?
  18. Cheers Bear. I'll be in touch soon. Got some personal guff to sort out and then I'll have leisure time at my disposal and I could do with tapping into your vast knowledge being wet behind the ears as I am.
  19. Cheers guys. Stop it Milegajo, you'll make it blush I wanted a whipser rifle and wasn't too keen on the whimper it gives when you don't have the silencer on.
  20. Icecream cone-ys? I'll get my coat.... Good shooting Stealthy1
  21. Last week I decided that my TV licence wasn't worth the direct debit slip it was written on but the tin of lead shavings needed to be emptier than it was so I headed out to the stables of my permission to see what was about. The nervousness feeling never leaves me and I have really come to enjoy having it. Sometimes it becomes so great when I have arranged a couple of days in advance rather than on a whim to have a sesssion that I actually get 50p/20p bum. Penalty at a sold out Wembley comes to mind. I'd remmebred to take the camera this time and upon exiting my car and I set up the ri
  22. Thanks for the tips guys. Managed to secure 500 acres of the Yorkshire Dale's finest. A bit shell shocked if I'm honest so apologise for the short statement about it. I'll have to invest in all of the overnight kit now and possibly an FAC. This is a whole new level from a couple of paddocks at a stables. That makes complete sense to me Ben. I do state that in the letter template I have that I persoanlise here and there depending on the venue.
  23. We are venturing into the unknown in different parts of this glorious rock in the ocean. I am just wondering if wandering on the land to ask permission or a letter with a follow up drop in is the best approach.
  24. I'll put this forward then: Don't give the dog a full cake for a meal, instead cut it up into decent sized peices and yes, either feed it as a training treat or just a filler at meals times. If you want something you can use as an actual meal for the dog that is high in fat and weight adding ingredients then you can try making satin balls which are freezer friendly too.
