    Was just waiting for the bang when it went into the farm yard Did you keep the bitch?
  14. Thought it was a fly.. You have a 70-300mm,. you are never going to get anything at that range, even with bigger telephoto lenses the knack is getting as close as you can.. Practice on bigger stuff, seagulls, flying swans, go to a local bird of prey centre and practice on flying owls..people think if they have a 300mm lense they can get great images at the other end of a football pitch, dosnt work that way, I have a full ghullie suit, a pop up hide, and my car, some of the best images I have were taking from my car, wildlife seems to tolerate a car, but not a person..get closer
  15. Make sure you get the subject in the frame Cheers, D. looks alot like my work Thats what I thought, I thought it was your vid
  16. Not such a thing as a crappy camera these days matie and I cant use Canon gear anyway :laugh:
  17. Paulus, your cameras main rival is probably the Canon 500d, and there are a number of guys on here that use this with good results, here is a youtube vid of what your camera can do, and there are many others to help;
  18. Yip, thats right, you cant break it, unless you undi
  19. This picture was shot at 1600 iso, the bird was in a darkish wooded area, shot at 200 iso and the image would have been almost black..There has been no noise reduction done to the image..there is slight noise in the background but this is exceptible, it helps define the bird, and detail can still be seen on the bird, but if I want to I could get rid of this in photoshop, you have to get to know your camera, its settings and what they do, do test shots, lots of them..I think we are putting too much emphasis on high iso`s, digressed from what started out as increasing iso to increase shutter spe
  20. Mine goes up to 6.400, with three extra higher settings above this, but I would never use that sort of iso, the images would be too grainy, I stick to a max of 1600 on mine in poor light, and down to 200 in good, with a good allround iso setting of 640, but, all cameras are different...Some cameras have an auto iso control, mine works great, I set the minimum to 200 and the maximum to 1600 and the camera makes a bloody good job of the rest..your camera should be ok with a maximum 400 and maybe up to 800 iso, above this you may need some noise reduction done on the images in photoshop or the th
  21. Let the camera choose the speed, this will give you optimal exposure, adjust your iso, the camera will then recaluclate and give you optimal exposure, at this point in time the camera knows a bit more about photography than you.. Action; one of my most difficult action shots of birds, as these Norther gannets hit the water at speeds of 60-90 miles per hour, not the best weather on the day, but by bumping up the iso, I got the speed I needed to get a decent shot, a point of interest, notice a gannet dosnt have nostrils in the beak like other birds, as hitting the water with such force would
  22. with my lurchers I was thinking three generations ahead when I bred a litter, mainly because I was looking to keep what I had for my own use..another thing you could do, and I did this a number of times, find out what bred the champion and use that, this dog has proved it can be the co-producer of good dogs, the Champion may not have the ability (genetically) to do this..Dont put too much emphasis on the stud dog either, as most of the top kennels are only as good as their bitches..
  23. As its already been said, light is really important, not just for action shots, but for any photography..I look for 1000`s + for BIF unless Im looking for a bit blurr on the wings etc..to get this speed sometimes have to shoot wide open at f4, and if the weather is crap, sometimes having to knock the ISO up to 1600+ which a lot of cameras do not produce acceptible images at..if I cant get these speeds, hey ho, still take the shot, you can only work with what youve got. I was shooting short eared owls yeaterday and the light was hitty missy, some flying shots were as low as 125`s others 1000`s
  24. Nice image, you should try tighter cropping it around the dogs, it should be ok as there seems to be enough quality in it, what lense are you using?
