When out in Paraguay (south america) all the tribe kids hunted with then and had a boat load of success, obviouslt their catapults were hand made from all the stuff they could find and they would all but use the catapults for everything short of the big stuff (ant eaters and what not). where it would be bows and arrows or traps. For small birds and things they used clay balls so they would shatter, for the bit bigger they used copper balls or pebbles...quite amazing to see though.

Bit of a massacre. now if i scare the pigeons off - the farmers happy, if in the process i get some good shooting and a few birds for the pot - im more than happy. Im glad to see theirs a few who share my thought (llanshooter)

I would say medium mounts would do. i have a scope with a 40mm lens but its AO so just tiniest bit too big on my RWSs. Im not sure but i think they say what size lens they are good up to.

i think you was 100% right to do what you did. I would have. I think animal cruelty is on par with kiddie fiddlin' and has no excuses for it. Well done!

Personally i wouldnt shoot a duck or a goose with a air rifle, use a shotgun its more fun and less chance of injuring it, im not dening the capability of an air rifle just the human error. and as for retrieving it from water, what if its pricked and swimming around, a dog will quickly bring it back for dispatch where as a lure on fishing line will not be humane in my opnion, pay a bit more respect to your quarry lads.

Agreed not perfect but ok if the ground aint too hard, failing that if they break you can make so top notch pigeon floaters
-
i use a 3 shot bolt action .410 with 3" chamber no.6 you can pick them up for about £100 http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/

Thats what i thought. and a fair few of the shots tacken were only about 10-15yrds so need less to say the pigeons were smashed up a fair bit which is a great shame to see so many good meals go to waste,.

maybe i need to improve my fieldcraft, knowledge
Sterry replied to braders's topic in Airgun Hunting
In my experience, feildcraft is a real matter of taking your time, i have stalked a rabbit from 75yrds and it took me ages to get to a shooting position (then i went and missed abismally) watching you quarry is important and judging whether it is on to you or not. but i would read up on it. -
I always shoot pigeons in flight as they are drawn down from "all the way up there" a bit. however the other day i came across another pigeon shooter who waited till the landed among decoys then shot them on the ground. now im well aware tht they are vermin but this seems little bit "unsporting" and the reason i shoot pigeon is to practise for the game season. so does anyone else do this or any other way of shooting them??

well i learnt something today, i thought a flea was a flea but now i know.

im not sure if it works but decoying and hiding up really tight like a bale hide with just a peep hole. i only say this as the other day i was in the hide with my mate eating our sarnies standing up looking around and 3 pigeon landed among our decoys, like the pair of pillacks we are we just looked on and presumed the other one would get their gun. needless to say niether of us did and they flew off.

Would you buy this shotgun?

i've only ever had 2 guns one .410 bolt action that i used from about 5 till i was bout 11, then i go given a 20 bore which i use to this day and it a double trigger, it comes as second nature and you can shoot as quick if not quiker with two but thats not really niether here nor there. i used a single trigger the other day and ended up trying to pull a trigger that wasnt there, sso its whatever you get used to. -
thats absolutly rubbish, a ferret will scamper around a warren looking for bunnies out of instinct. its a good thing having a soppy ferret, the last thing you want is a ferret to back down a hole again when you want to move on. and lets face it hunting people are some of the nicest around, but still they kill plenty why should a ferret be any different?
-
For some reason jills dont seemm to get the fleas to much and if i see a flea i skwish it (albino ferrets so easy to see), i dont no why this is but i would suggest that when you kill the rabbit lay it down some distance from the ferrets and the fleas will bugger off as the temprature drops.

If i were you i would get in touch with the BFC (brittish falconry club) although as with most things some may talk complete b*llsh*t, but by and large they know what they are talking about. i have heard of people flying eagles at deer and fox (and hares if you like) from ny aunt who was one of the best and true proffessional falconers in the country.

What time do you go out lamping!
Sterry replied to speedystu's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
when i was workin on a shoot, so as soon as we finished work we had a mooch and would aim to go out three times a night, with a few hours nap between. we went out at as the evenings drew out, one in the middle about 2-3am then again just before dawn untill the owner decided to take us to the cafe in the village. agreed we was very tired by the end of it all but well worth it. -

one of the best parts of a sbs double trigger is the look, it would be sacralige to have one with synthetic stock. i use a "rough" gun, an AYA no 3 for pigeon andd wildfowl. As for wildfowl, you can and i do shoot plenty of ducks and geese with english barrels and standard chambers. seems completely pointless to me but its what im used to.and thats what it boils down to. -
If you think your duck is in pain then im afraid its in the best interest to ring its neck. Birds are nortoriously bad at recovering both from shock and injury (remember birds have hollow bones). so not cheary news im afraid. but its all part of keeping and caring for animals (feels strange killing something out of kindness) but only because we keep feel we should keep animals going for our benfit not for theirs. by the way long hair does indeed "rock" Hope you get the meaning of my very confused post.

Had a good season this year, mainly bunnies with the occaisional wood pigeon. latest one was a wood pigeon in my back garden, making my chicken skittish sitting above them, dropped it with one through the neck, must say really freaked the chikcen out that dropping in their run, just a warning to keep laying i think.

Thats not to clever, i thought thats in the realms of a .22lr 4" at 100yrds on a still day. if you need help, read up Statuosary rights, i think there is something about being fit for purpose and that doesnt sound fit for purpose, and most companies resort to coughing up when the threat of court is wavered.

good luck last time i set a fox snare found one pissed off vixen, but i had the farmers rifle on me so short work of that. just take you gun when you go to check it on the off chance.
