My Freelander 2 is a commercial vehicle, I use it every day for work. It has a purpose made steel framed and boarded rear. Suites me fine due to my gf having a Golf if we need the back seats. I find lovely to drive, fast and sure footed, not a Range Rover but good in its own vehicle class. I know that newer ones, especially manuals easily do 40 mpg combined.

The image problem with my Freelander 2 is a lot of older guys drive them. So if I am at a set of lights, I always get some little hatch back next to me, often in the wrong lane trying to beat me away and get in front. I normally let them go, but sometimes I let them get a few yards in front then floor it and leave them for dust.

Freelander 2 is a completely different vehicle than it's predecessor, they are much more reliable, better vehicle all round. Plus they don't suffer the 'Johnnie Big Bollocks ' image of the L200

Just had a run in my Freelander 2 and got 42 mpg on the motorway. I guess it will do around 34 mpg combined.

Same as my Freelander 2, only does about 26 mpg around town, auto box doesn't help but drives fantastic.

I think there is a big hole in the market for an uncomplicated, easy to repair, reliable, small to medium 4wd. Suzuki could do a bigger and updated Jimny, with a tried and test 1.6 petrol or 2 ltr diesel engine. Soft top or with a ridged removable top. No carpet inside just vinyl for easy cleaning, like a van. I am sure more knowledgable people on here could add a lot to my suggestions.

I did a small job for a decent enough Muslim family a few weeks back. They are Asian via Africa, the grandparents got out of Kenya during the 70's. One thing that stood out to me. Grandmother was dressed in a saree, no head covering, mother wore a loose head scarf. Son had married a foreign import, who was head to toe in black, head covered in tightly fitting scarf with just face showing. It stood out to me that the family are regressing , not becoming more integrated with this country.
