  1. building up confidence is key to sucess, if you had a young tallented boxer (im not reffering to fury) under your wing would you keep putting him in fights he was going to get beat or would you graduely bring him on ie go through amatuer career then step up into the professional league, in hunting terms a few easy rabbits etc some softer hares learning there trade where there not going to get a real bad tanking you wouldnt take a young sapling down to the fens mid january that had never seen a hare and start giving it 150-200 yard slips for 3/4 runs would you? No, once it was picking up
  2. Agree with most of what you say arcticgun, but I've never known a young get sickened with rollovers its there job if they need to dig a little bit deeper when the goin gets tough then they should,it's what they've been bred to do, it shouldn't be a problem if you've put in the effect before hand conditioning them to the best of your ability. People going on this thread as if butter don't melt in there mouth, got to respect your quarry we all know what happens to them once caught don't get me wrong mate I have done it and likely will do again on the odd occaision, confidence is defintaley im

  5. Makes me wonder how those that don't run summer hares ever manage to get a pup picking up its game in the winter? If it was that vital, surely those youngsters that are not given summer runs, slipped in on tired hares etc , would not make the grade?
  6. They certainly seem to be strangers to each other, judging by some of the comments.
  7. I don't think yea would find one banter but yea live and learn at least some people do but some lads seem to never learn I haven't run hares on a summers evening but I've run dogs many times in doubled up competitions, under rules , when it was legal to do so. Early morning hares have never appeared to be at any disadvantage to those run later in the day, imo,Certainly I'd say they are no more at a disadvantage than a dog that might have been stuck in the back of a 4x4/van for several hours without a chance to loosen itself up properly before running its quarry. kick ups

  9. Imo if you were morally righteous you would not commit acts of paedophilia etc One naturally contradicts the other. Domestic violence, child exploitation corruption in society are subjects that have no relevance to this topic ,which is about running hares during the summer months. The place to debate them is in the general topic section . What facts or circumstances would one need to form an opinion on the subject of running hares in the summer ? Either you do ,or you don't, and people will either agree with you if you do , or they won't, it's a simple yes or no. You

  11. Legality has nothing to do with morals, or personal ethics. I would not run hares between second week in March, and middle of September, in actual fact i dont think I've ever run them before October . Thats just what I'm comfortable with, I would not want to catch leverets, milky does, or nursing does. We know hares can have early and late litters, but we also know the months when the majoriy of them are breeding. There's a reason they cannot be sold during certain months I agree with it , and I prefer to abide by it. There is talk of a close season for hares , [ obviously this
  12. Good stuff and excellent pics Socks, looks like you've got a looker, and a doer rolled into one
  13. Lack of knowledge on the subject? cos it annoys you perhaps I think it best describe a dog who's running style is to get towed around by a hare It's anticipated from you Baw, it doesnt annoy us, just confirms my opinion of why you say it it is the only reason I say it. The misconception was when I say it, folk think I mean they are slow is wrong, but I went along with it anyhow I only ever meant they look like they are plodding along behind not putting in a bend etc, just happy to stay a nice distance following. Clever animals really and an effective style of running but shhhh keep

  15. Which dog, or bitch was the most impressive in winning this competition???
  16. All hares are different as is the ground. Lucky was as good a male dog as I have seen. Others may have different opinions, dependant on what dogs they have been fortunate to have seen run. However, I don't think he ranks as one of the most successful producers.
  17. Its got the look of a Lucky dog with the black body , and the brindle legs.
  18. Cheetahs have very flexible spines, in slow motion they can be seen arching them to an incredible extent. They can have all their feet off the ground at the same time during a sprint, as well as the back feet coming forward of the front feet ,so they get tremendous extension of stride. It would be interesting to see close-up slow motion courses that focus just on the hare. As others have said, a hare's heart is out of all proportion to its anatomy,"as big as a baby's fist ," as Plummer described it. A famous greyhound was autopsied, if thats the word [ I cant remember if it was Mick The M
  19. I got to thinkin and if I had to run them sazukis on my game of choice I dont think I'd have a f****n truck big enough to carry all of the dogs I'd need to catch and kill that damn critter. I'm being 100% honest here too. Each to their own.
  20. I've had no world beaters either ,fortunately they have all been genuine grafters though
  21. Never had a super dog myself, just decent workers, of all types from deehound x's ,collie crosses, beddie crosses, whippet crosses, and saluki crosses.
  22. How many of them were taking 3 out of 3 with proper slips?
