  2. Just found this nest tucked in the edge of one of the ferns! I havn't seen any parent birds yet but I'm guessing its a nice pair of tits ... Any ideas people? Jasper
  3. Cracking birds JD! I had a few when I was a lad which would follow me everywhere. the first one I had would follow me to school and from house to house while on my fanny magnet fandango cow horned bike .... I still had a old Jackdaw when I met the wife in 88! I can't remember but I think it was about 7 then and lived well over 12, this thing diced with death on many occasions walking about on the Hawk aviarys ...... I've always had a fetish with birds mate! the feathered one's ain't bad either ..... Jasp
  4. There's a few wilf that kids can take up and enjoy! I kept back a male Harris a few years back for my lad who at that time was 10, he carried it about and fed it off the fist with me in tow and with a little weight reduction it was flying across the fields to him, he loved it for a while as did my Daughter until the X Box took him over , they also have a male Barn Owl here too called "Ozzy" He's soft as butter and tamer than the average budgie which they love to handle...... My kids being brought up and handled birds in the garden so their confidence was already sky high! some kids might b

  6. Looks like you're having some fun with him mate which is what its about sometimes. I never flew any of my donors or standing birds although some people do to make a strong bond.... They soon get on the hat with some courtship coaxing like this one! the clever lad knew the camera was there all the time....... Jasper
  7. some top tracks there lads Secret Affair - "Time for action" was a real classic in its own right around here and always lifted the roof of the local disco's and clubs, "Let Your Heart Dance" was another ..... A few I loved back then, times flown past but it still sounds good...... Jasper

I'm probably going to sound a Hypocrite here due to my own opinions of Imigration! but WTF is the government doing deporting people who have fought for these shores for near on 200 years . they have always backed up our own forces and fought with their hearts on their sleeves and this is what they get in return, its a disgrace how they are being treated with a nice "Thankyou But Goodbye" from our Government .... Just found this link.. Jasper Gurkhas

This track just about sez it all lads.....
  10. Thats not a Harrishawk chick!!! Its one of them endangered Bateared Red Crows from the Galapagos Islands .... well done mate thats a good result . has anymore pipped yet? Jasper
  11. Yep sorry mate. I pull the first entire clutch of eggs off the birds either fresh or after she has given them some natural Incubation for 8 - 10 days, the eggs are then finished off in the Incubator. Harris eggs normally Pip at 32 days and hatch a couple of days later if everything has gone to plan, they'll then be reared to the age of maximum 6 days either in a brooder or under a heat lamp... By this time the female should have recycled her entire clutch again, Normally around 18 - 21 days after the first clutch was removed! if they go earlier or later no problem, its then a case of placi
  12. This pair is down on 5 Derek! she's done a 6 in the past not often. she'll normally do a 4 in the second round....... Nice going though mate top bombing .... Jasper
  13. PM me closer to the time mate and I'll go through the same set up I have here! I know people do things different but this way has always worked for me with different pairs, its not a hard and fast rule but I have never had problems with this set up even with other species ..... Jasper
  14. I don't think it matters too much with Harris's Mik!! but be on the safe side and stick the male in a week or so first. let him get aclimitised to the enclosure with a bit of confidence and then introduce the female. I still use old Motorbike rear tyres for the Harris's which work perfect, it also helps keep the chicks in the nest and not falling off the ledge.... bed the tyre out with plenty of fresh sprigs of Leylandi and some twigs <Larch or whatever> and feed through the day finishing in the evening which will help courtship.... Jasper
  15. nice one mate for being succesful with the Harris's . Kevo is bang on 8 - 10 days but to be Honest I like to get them back with their parents by 5 - 6 days so I stick the rings on them useing Micropour < the stuff for bandages>, just roll it round the ring making a tighter funnel at the ankle.... If you are going to leave them with the parents full term then ignore this abd go for the 8 - 10 days!! I always go for double clutches or triple to safe guard any losses due to perhaps infertility in previouse clutches... this is one of the suppliers I still use which is a bit cheap
  16. I think you're right Butler! in the wild they seem to get the job done no probs. these captive raised Imprint Goshawks are a bit daft! some will lay eggs and not sit, some trash the nest in favour of laying on the board and some if a egg is left stand all over it! and some litteraly dismantle the nest while a egg is in there , If only people who pick birds up knew some of the shit we go through before it gets to the stage of penning and gone.... I'll suck it and see what the outcome is... if it works Good!! if not I'm going to be having a stay in funny farm .... Jasper
  17. No doubt about it you're right mate. the problem if I'm pulling the Gos's eggs is the big age gap from when I stick the first egg in the Inc to the last, they lay a egg every third day which put a huge gap from first egg Hatch to the 10th if I'm pulling that many.... If I can store them in clutches of 3 - 4 after taking the fresh egg weight it would be perfect just to get a few the same age when rearing, I just daren't take the risk until I'm 100% with something like a Gos egg...... Jasper
  18. Out of interest does anyone Pull and store eggs until they build up a quantity before incubation? If so what is the longest period you have stored a egg and its still succesfully hatched? I have noticed in the past that some Hawks will leave eggs until the the second from last before sitting tight, they seem to cover the eggs sometimes in the evenings but don't start off incubation, The Goshawks normaly lay eggs on every third day so if she lays 4 there's sometimes 6 - 7 days before Incubation yet these eggs if fertile will still Hatch..... when I pull the Gos eggs I want to store them
  19. They sounds pretty wayward which is a shame because from a sporting point of view they seem fine. I lived out in the fens near sutton bridge Lincolnshire about 10 years back and was shocked how sporting some of the pheasants was up there, I never caught any with a bird as back then I was flying a spar but I shot a few and although smaller than the birds in this part of Norfolk it shocked me how far these fen pheasants would go before the put in...... I keep a few Pheasants here and breed a few from the Melanistics to ring necks and the Golden! we also get a good few cock birds come in the
  20. are they a fair bit smaller than the average ring neck pheasant stevie? I've not seen one but there was a time they was raving about them from a sporting point of view on some shoots...... Jasper
  21. They put some down on one of the Syndicate shoots a few years back! I was flying on this land at the time but never came across one of them. I spoke to one of the Keepers and he mentioned he was having big problems keeping them in the boundary due to their wandering instinct? it was a shame as I have heard nothing but good about these birds from a sporting point of view..... I fly and shoot around Norfolk with mix woodland, Cover, Set Aside and some open fields!! somehow I think it would take a good fit Goshawk to get near one of these Bluebacks, But I'm sure with a longwing it would be a
  22. Anyone ever put any down or have any info on them? I have hear they have a tendancy to wonder way off but by all accounts they get up well compared to some other types .... Cheers Jasper
  23. None of them Pheasants looks more than 30yds <90 foot> tops. I've seen some birds that looked like tiny Cross's in the sky shot here around Norfolk. You only have to watch them shooting around Sandringham or Holkham and some other estates to see how high some of them birds are .... Jasper
  24. That R1 looks sweet Stealthy . If there is any bikes that do it for me its the R1 and the R6 .... was that pic taken at Sunny Hunny? Jasper
