    Might be going out a bit more in the near future, just found out the firm I work for has folded over xmas! Could have told us before xmas!

    Managed to avoid getting dragged out for a few days recently by not answering the phone and going fishing instead, but today 'The Old One' caught me off guard. He convinced me he would be able to drive to the top end of the land today (Due to the heavy frost over the last week) so I would not have to carry as much back, and he would not take half a day to get up there. Balls to that then! As you can see, a light coating of the fairy dust had once again fallen on the frozen rock hard ground.     To slim down your hob Jordan, only let him eat once a day outside the cage till he's full, then thats it for him untill he slims down a bit. (A pair of my hobs have had a little to much over xmas, and have started to fatten up.) They are not the same animals they were 1 week ago. The ones that don't come out (Peepers) are annoying. It's usually the young ones that do it to start with, be patient with them, most come good after there first season. Don't really know about the other stuff sorry.

    Sorry to hear about that, sad loss. Yep, people underestimate how powerfull a rabbits kick is, if the ground you are stood on moves from this, imagine what the ferrets like when it's head is stuck between the feet and the roof of the tunnel? Seems worse in very open warrens when they have more room to move. Poor bugger, we've had a jill with it's eyes popped out because of this, we pushed them back into the sockets, and she seemed ok after that, don't know whether she ended up suffering with the sight though.     Anyone really struggling to clip the nails down, then stick the ferret under an upturned bucket on a concrete flag, with its food just outside the bucket. (oh and stick a brick on the top of the bucket!) Give em 5 mins they should be worn down. (maybee not in the case of the nails folding under the paws though, best get someone good with the clippers to sort those to start with!)

    Lots of variables there! Is there deffo rabbits at home? Are the ferrets young uns, and are they proven workers? Are they collared up? Did you make a large disturbance above ground before netting up? I'd be using the dogs senses a bit, see if you can read the dog a little, most dogs with a bit of sense will show you some sign of marking up, any change in behaviour stands out like a sore thumb if you know your dog well, whilst he sniff's around the holes. Secondly, make sure your ferrets are not fat, i.e shaped like light bulbs when you hold them up, a fat ferret is like a fat footb

    Seen what we thought was this, quite a few years ago now. Going about the normal business of ferreting, getting pinpoints on the locater, digging and finding what looked like normal healthy rabbits dead underground. Only found a few to be honest, it could have been something else, but never seen it before, and never seen it since. The live rabbits were still there if it was this, and if it had an effect it was only minimal at the time.

    Will what do you call that type of wall down there? I think in wales it's called claddi walling? (Now i'm asking for trouble, trying welsh pronounciation just from hearing the word!) Do the plant hedges in the top of it?

    It's a balancing act to get the animals in fine form, splitting them up into pigs+pigs, lightweight + lightweight in a cage has worked. They do get fat during summer, but this is more to me not really caring weather they are fit at this time of year.

    Yep thats exactly what I do Kay, and it's easy to prevent any animal from losing weight (or gaining it) by monitoring each individual on it's frame by handling them. Do people take them to one side and feed them? Even if i let 2 loose in the yard, one can always hogg the food.

    Right, I have 13 ferrets at the moment, all split up between 6 cages at present, (I have 8 big cages by the way, with mesh outdoor cages to go with them.) I split the animals up so that each matches itself in the cage, so as not to hog the food. Even in these circumstances, one can sometimes get the better share of the food. I'm not after answers like, feed them till they have stopped eating, as i know that overweight ferrets will just jack in, it's a fact, Fat ferrets do not do the job properly. Nor am I saying starve a ferret, you will get lay ups then. All I want to know, is h

    Whats the point of this thread then ?,the lad asked what we thought i have the ugliest dog in the world but he fills the pot better than most dogs i've seen a WORKING lurcher don't need to be the best of lookers they there to fill the pot Aint that the truth MIcky lad! Looks appeal to people, but does not mean a dog will work!
