  1. Biggest Tope i've seen out is this one at 34 lb I know there is a lot bigger caught of here, but the biggest i have seen. Watched this man take a good 30 minutes to land it with several massive runs. Not seen any fish in freshwater in the same league to be honest.
  2. Shore for conger is 68lbs i think, it's not the fight, it's the pulling them out thats the problem. Hook a 20 pounder from the shore and they are trouble! The Tope pound for pound when hooked from the shore is something else, watched 30 pounders take 30 minutes to land on heavy beach tackle, but seeing 50 yrds of line go off your spool at a blistering pace wondering if it's going to stop is superb! Carp are slow in comparison. A shore Tope was taken off Anglesey this year hit well over the 60 lb mark, lad was down on line and just got it in the end I'd rather target the cats to be honest, l
  3. Only give him the back of your clenched fist to grab. It offers up a target, but one that does not hurt like the fingertips! You can almost watch it and take it when this happens, and they soon let go!
  4. Might try it if it means the fingers get less abuse of the kits when handling, but I bet the handling and taking the teeth is the key, but maybee it's worthwhile.
  5. Yep sensible posts like above, don't bother. Mine have just today started to stink. So What! Any frost could put them at risk, when wet the cold really hits home and could be fatal. The washing thing is for the show ring, not for normal healthy working stinkers.
  6. Whats this ferretone stuff about anyhow? Does it make yer finger taste better for them or something? Is it like 'Crack for ferrets?'
  7. Not a bullcrosser myself but the dogs look serious, and in superb nick. Hats off feller!
  8. No such thing as a lost cause, all ferrets should be om in the correct hands Ok then John, lost finger not cause! One or two might stretch that comment mate. One or two can be beyond help like dogs, but most will be ok with the right fellers looking after them.
  9. Bring on the Tope thats what I say! Those little sharks will screw your carp tackle up good and propper! Or second best, get the conger out, 30lb straight through, cranking for every inch!
  10. Might be a lost cause, but give him time and handle him so he cannot get you to start with. Time is a great healer, on both sides!
  11. I think dogs soon learn that the ferret is one of the team, bring them up in the same enviroment they get to know each other, then when the rabbits start moving there interest in the ferrets fade. The other tricks probably work well, but in time a sensible dog comes round to it anyway.
  12. Steam karcher does the trick and then tumble dry for about 10 minutes They look like angora ferrets after the tumble though! NO NO NO! JOKING DON'T PUT THEM IN THE TUMBLE!
  13. I found a pressure washer cleans ferrets and cages at the same time! Joking joking joking DON'T DO IT!
  14. Yes get a kit, you'll bond with the animal then. One problem they just bite lots as a kit. usually nothing serious but you'll be forever getting the needle's untill they grow up a bit, also it's the nature of a kit that keeps them wriggling about, they just want to keep moving. No better way of ending up with an animal that you trust more when they get older though than bringing a little un up!
  15. Give it a chance, I get nailed usually once in every few outings when they are wired up. (probably my own fault for shoving my arms up the tube alongside them though!)
  16. Team Wallace and Gromit!

    A class outfit!

  17. It's quite common in the dales for lads to get charged, esecially in the south of the area. There is that much competition for land from the lads from yorkshire and lancashire some lads will always be there to pay it, and people to take your place if you don't do the job.
  18. Trust the dog they'll tell yer! Sounds like you are starting to understand what the bitch is doing now, it get's easier from here on!
  19. Salmon how do you get 4 ferrets to stay on one flag? I can see food has bribed them but all four on one slab? Better day by the sounds of it pal, don't chop that cable whatever you do!
  20. The two jills you had did not probably have the same muscle you have now with this hob, even the biggest nastiest hobs cannot shift rabbits with their back ends up easy, some will even eat the rabbit from the backside and it will not move. (ending in a kill) It's a tall order to shift what must seem like a brick wall in front of you, Its the equivalent of a dog trying to move a cow out of a doorway with no exit or turning space, faced only by it's back end looking at it. If it gets to the business end then it will shift it by reversing it up. Sounds like a bit of digging will follow this f
  21. Ferrets a good un then! These are the hardest rabbits to shift, even a mans hand can struggle to shift them so it's way harder for the ferret to do it. (plus there is probably a few stuck in front of it!) Some stick at it, some come away. Probably for maybee more than 10 yrs, most of my work has been clearing everything out, mostly i'd say 60% digging them out. (if this on average is 15 digs a day you know the score) When you see most of your bag come from beneath the sod, and see the critters doing (or not doing the job) below the turf, you know exactly what is going on down there. Soun
  22. Is it not just hammering the back end untill it moves? Most of mine will do this if they cannot get past to the head end, you struggle to get your hand past them to there legs to pull them out when they do this?
  23. The ferret that caused the bold patch wants a medal, this was a rabbit with it's arse up, they take some shifting and the ferret has stuck at it till it moved it! They take some getting past in this position!
