    advice

You can use shredded paper for the floor of the hutch or cat litter in a cat tray and leave the floor bare and they will go in there to shit. You can use shredded paper for their bed or old jumpers/fleece's so you can bang them in the washer when they get tatty. Its also a good idea to line the floor of the hutch with lino for easy cleaning.
  2. They will be out if you use chicken wire... Buy some mesh online, ebay?
  3. The bigger you can make it the better, but they need a couple of hours out each day.
  4. Im glad you have found out what was wrong with her. Just a thought, you dont feed cat or dog food do you? As that can cause bladder stones. RIP Ferret
  5. It could be a number of things, be canine distemper Found this on the internet.. CANINE DISTEMPER While rabies are rare in ferrets, canine distemper is not and is almost 100% fatal in ferrets within 12 to 42 days after exposure. Once a ferret gets the disease, euthanasia is recommended to prevent the spread of the disease to other animals and end the animal's suffering. Some of the sign of canine distemper include loss of appetite, foul-smelling yellow or green sticky eye discharge, swollen eyelids, green or yellow nasal discharge, swelling of lips and chin, thick brown crusts tha
  6. Shouldnt be any problems with them returning him.. Like kay sed you can get em chipped..2 of mine are done.
  7. you can find a ferret friendly vet here.. http://ferretsinneed.org.uk/index.php?pr=Vet_Search_Results
  8. She looks like a cracking dog mate, just what we're looking for.. where abouts in the north east are you?
  9. for their bedding you can use old fleece's, not towels as ferrets can get their nails caught in the thread.. That way you can put them in the washer when they get tatty. you can line the hutch with lino for easy cleaning, fasten a cat litter tray to the floor, fill with some woodbased cat litter/shavings put some poo in there & hope they go in the tray like mine cat litter is not that expensive, you can get 30l of it for a tenner, will last you abit if you havnt got many ferrets. http://www.ukpetsupplies.com/Details.aspx?...mp;ParentId=214
  10. Yes they will be in season untill August, September time. Yes they fight if housed together during theese months, you could get them both castrated so they can live together peacfully all year round.
  11. It realy depends on how much out of cage time the ferrets get, I would personally would not put more than 2 small ferrets in there, can you make a run to build on the front it it? that would be ideal.
  12. extoic direct is the only company in uk that do them but they only insure em upto 5 yr old and its quid a year each ferret. What I do is have a jar where i put all my spare change, when its full take it to bank and put it into a acount i do not use so i dont get tempted to spend it but it mounts up pretty quick. Or some people setup a direct debit each week/month into a spare acount for the ferrets, that way you dont miss it, but its there if you need it
  13. Yeh I would put a roof onnit and put some perspex quarter of the way up the mesh all way round so they cant climb right up.
  14. Do some research first, you will need money saved up for any future vet bills, they need alot of time and attention.
  15. Yes she could get aplastic anemia and go down hill very fast and die Safest thing to do is to get her spayed for a one off cost, or you can have her jabbed but that would mean having to jab her every year and some vets wont do it more than once.
  16. Get a big bag of alpha ferret feast for 12.50 if money is tight, even get it delivered and it will cost you less than 19 quid that you spend on that go cat shite, be healthier for em aswell. http://www.feedem.co.uk/small-animals-40/s...ferret-1657.htm
  17. I would have thought greyhound food biccies would be too large for the ferrets. Its simple realy, ferrets = ferret food Cat food contains vegetable proteins and can cause bladder stones in ferrets.
  18. Neutering will reduce the smell, using old fleece's for bedding and washing them regular will help and clean them regular.
  19. if you want em to live together all year round peacfully get them castrated.
  20. no, I wouldnt do it.. Doesnt take long to clean a ferret hutch out that has wooden floors. Wouldnt like to thing i was walking on wire floors, their feet will be sore..
  21. Think it will need cleaning out aswell if nobody as opened the cage for a while, poor thing. Get some ferret biccies and slip them in the cage, attach a big water bottle onto the cage... Dont wait untill the animal suffers, if he's not bothered about it why's he got it, should have been rehomed ages ago.
  22. depends what you mean by having had him done, has he been castrated or vasectomised?
  23. The hobs are fighting because they are entire, if you want em to live together peacfully all year round get them castrated They lads will still fight untill their balls go back in at winter and come out of season.
  24. Have 2 ferrets that work, soft as a brush, neutered.. They are our pets, spoilt rotten, they work like anything, come streight to you when they come out of the hole but bunnies dont mess with em..
  25. Whats wrong with people, vets wouldnt cost you nothing for example if you setup a direct debit/or just put £2.50 in a savings acount each week it would mount up then you wouldnt miss it when you need it.. Its all down to people been tight, but realy should consider if you can afford vet treatment if needed before taking on the animal..
