  6. Thanks Flynn, Desert bred, Trenchfoot and Peterhunter, etc. When you have an old car, and first the clutch goes, then the handbrake cable needs renewing, it's not starting when it's cold and you doubt that it will pass it's MOT, you know it is time to take it to the scrap yard and get something newer. Well that is sort of where I am at,, the scrapyard beckons. But it will not be for a while yet. A push start will still get me going!. I just hope that many of the new generation of working dog owners will have as just long a coursing career as I have had (I had my first Lurcher in 1961) and wi

  10. I had to wait for nearly a year to get mine. When first ordered I was told two months, after two months I was told another two months, after that I was told that they (Edger Bros) could not give a date. On repeated enquiries I was told that CZ would/could not supply until they had a order of 100 units!!. Edger Bros had placed an order of, I think 9 units but they did not know if this order was the first of the 100 needed or that they had nearly made it to the 100. So, it could be a few more weeks or another 6 months. I too was offered a Ruger, but I wanted a CZ. I then saw one on Guntrader br

  16. I have just bought a Sako Finnfire P94s varmint in almost mint condition. I know that it was kept in a gun safe for ten years due to the previous owner being unwell, hence the mint condition. I have two questions: 1/ When did Sako cease Making the Finnfire P94s and how do you establish how old the rifle is? 2/ In the past I have shortened the Barrel of my CZ 542 with no effect on how accurate it was. Can I do the same with a Finnfire, with it being a heavy barrel? I love the rifle and if it is best not to touch I will leave it well alone. It is shooting 1/4-1/2 inch groups at fifty metres w
  17. In reply to king, 1/ Setting up a website and a facebook page enables the AWL to keep members informed regarding the current situation of the repeal of the hunting ban, it also helps members keep up to date with the situation regarding the AWL, it is of interest to members and non members with articles, photos, information regarding Lurcher/Longdog breeding etc, it contains stories provided by members. To say that one website is pointless is to say all websites are pointless. If you are a loner, then I respect that, just as you will no doubt respect the fact that many people enjoy reading Lu
  18. I am happy for constructive criticism, it is what makes us move forward, mistakes will be made, but remember we are supposed to be on the same side. The more we fight each other, it is energy wasted. Let us all use that energy to fight for repeal. Alan Tyer.
  19. Wonderful words Jane! For over twenty years now those that wish to fight for the working dog man/woman have had to fight not only the anti field sports crew but also to fight those who should be on our side, but for reasons of their own can only call from the sidelines. People who cannot use their own name but hide under various usernames. The A.W.L. and before that the A.L.C. stands for the ordinary working dog man/woman. you are the people that matter. Picking holes in photos and text that they do not understand and expecting us to be PC in case we put a foot wrong is playing into the han
  20. The A.W.L. exist to promote ALL work with crossbred and purebred sight. We are your voice, and as such we invite ALL individuals and clubs to join us to fight for (In the first instance, for a repeal of the hunting ban) the working Lurcher/Longdog at the highest level. We must work with Landowners, Farmers, Government bodies and the public at large to show that we are a well organised governing body that has, in the first instance, the future of the working Lurcher/Longdog in all it's forms at heart and that we also support all other forms of hunting. We will not stop fighting for a repeal un
  21. Used Winchester subs (blue box) for years, superb when I started with the new black box, I was amazed at how terrible they were. A five shot group look like I had used a four ten. They would not eject. They were just rubbish. Tried Eley Club and they restored my faith. Easy sub half inch groups at fifty metres in my CZ 455 varmint. Winchester has lost another customer.
  22. Savage Steve, I will send you a e-mail if you are still interested. pity you don't live nearer, I could take you out for a shoot. The twist rate is 1 in 12 to the best of my knowledge. It is in near mint condition. I have had it re-crowned and it has a lovely walnut stock and fore end. I have fired less than 200 shots through and before I got It it had very little use, but suffered from being stood with a moderator attached, hence the re-crown. I had it accuracy tested at Mcavoy's Gunsmiths in Wigan and the Gunsmith (Tim) stated that it was more accurate than he could ever shoot. courser
  23. Right then. The Alliance for the Working Longdog/Lurcher (AWL). Pros: 1/The title Alliance means: "an association of groups with a common aim" Is that not what we are and to become? 2/The name "Longdog" is an umbrella term that covers any type of sight hound, including, lurchers, whippets, saluki X greyhounds, Greyhounds, Salukis, etc. Is this not who we are to represent? Cons: 1/ Would the title be acceptable to the majority? 2/ would another title be more to the point, whilst still representing all types of Longdogs, Sighthounds etc? The Running Dog Alliance, (RDA) Pros: 1/
  24. Is any body still interested? if so I will try to get up some pics.
  25. In reply to maxhardcore, The reason that I feel that the name "Alliance for the working Longdog" is relevant is two fold: 1/ many hunters that use a running dog for coursing use not a Lurcher but a Longdog, ie: a Saluki, a whippet,(think of the many Whippet coursing and racing clubs) a greyhound, a saluki x Greyhound and there are many others. These other running Longdogs also need to be considered and supported. The owners of these other breeds want to fight for a repeal just as you do, so they too can continue with their sport. Do we discount them? The name Longdog has been used for ma
