  1. Bad luck mate but these things happen, especially with terriers, they seem to constantly flirt with disaster.
  2. I recently took as very small ,heavily infested ferret that was found near to me.I called the vet and they said that frontline was'nt licenced for ferrets but it would be ok,the spray that is.I used it and it was fine.
  3. My mate ,who fixes gearboxes for a living, just had a ranger box in and it was an absolute fortune to fix,so make sure the box is ok.
  4. bolted two lots of young yesterday, biggest ones must have been 4 wks old
  5. I fish for a living and easterly winds are well named poverty winds in our job, good for nothing
  6. 3 hobs,2 jills and 2 jills longtime lodgers from a divorce, 736
  7. my lakeland bitch, who i sadly lost at the weekend, loved anything small, ferrets,my parrots ,young of any species.Thought it was strange until i read this thread.
  8. was gutting rabbits after ferreting at the weekend, one had very small young inside and another had very large young inside.
  9. we used to kill a lot of mink a few years ago in our river estuary and along the beaches adjoining the river but otters reappeared and that was the end of the mink, the two ,apparently, don't live side by side.I was always impressed by how game the horrible little things were. The downside was that it made the terriers unsteady with ferrets. Our local paper had a headline about mink 'marauding'down our mainstreet.

    sciatica

I used to suffer it but physiotherapy etc was no help so i went to a private chiropracter and he cured it,this is not recognised by nhs doctors although they themselves use it.
  11. I have a jack that i took from similair circumstances about 5 years ago.He gradually settled but to this day he still circles if he gets excited or stressed and i have never been able to leave him on his own,it is just impossible and i am lucky that he can go to work with me.
  12. apart from the 9 dogs and5 ferrets i have Sid,a congo african grey, two senegals and a rosella.I feel that keeping lakies for years is a good trial run for parrots,ie.little shits that do nothing they are told ahd really believe they are 10foot tall.
  13. forgot to add she is a cracking little retriever
  14. i run both, although my whippet has just gone a year so she is still young. She is prone to cuts etc. and has no sense of self-preservation.We work some pretty high ground and she does appear to feel the cold but does'nt let it stop her.She goes ferreting but we have'nt had any really severe weather yet, just a bit snow,so i will have to wait and see how she does.As for high numbers, well i don't think that will be an issue this year!
  15. most of my experience with the law comes from salmon poaching but i believe the basics apply ie.they need to find concrete evidence, hairs from something illegal for instance. The mess thst is the hunting act complicates things but the old night poaching act allowed the police seizure powers etc.A lot of police don't know these laws too well and that includes our local wildlife officer,a real arse.If you were not charged with anything i can't see how you would be liable to pay money to get your car back.
  16. I think collie/grey made a valid point re.the bull x's character, thet are cracking dogs to own but this should'nt blind us to the fact that some of them have faults, mine included. For instance mine is a great rabbit dog, always 100% but they are no good to eat when she get's them. This site never seems to tire of these pointless 'whats the best' arguments, surely you keep what is best for you?
  17. same with us,north northumberland/scottish borders,worst we've ever seen it.Plenty of hares though.
  18. look no further than any rescue, they are always full of lurchers, says it all really
  19. Mine is doing exactly the same,it did'nt used to and i am on firefox, plus i am pc illiterate.
  20. I believe my bull x is mother/son,an accidental mating.I thought she had brain damage but she is my first bull x so i nowthink she is normal for a bull x,lol.I did'nt know any of this when i took her on.
  21. My whippet also caught a duck a while ago,the quacking drew a big dog fox straight to her so it was my bull x to the rescue.I once thought my lakie had caught a guinea pig but it was a large ,rather manky rat with no tail, she did however catch all my brothers guinea pigs and rabbits except for one which the lurchers ''flushed''.As for cats i ended up in court as a child with my old grey but i got off as they accepted that i had'nt encouraged the dog to kill them and he did great pr work for himself wandering amiably round the court
  22. not the clulite, bought two recently and the switches are dodgy on both of them.
  23. i run a whippet(as wellas lurchers and deerhounds) and she is a fantastic little dog.As has been said they don't have the stamina of a good lurcher and mine is a bit reckless and seems to think she is about the size of a wolf. They are spectacular little coursers but mine does'nt know when to give up on bigger stuff and needs to be restrained at times.she is a great dog with the ferrets as well.Downside is her ears seem to be for decoration only and she will open up sometimes.I would'nt have only whippets but i would'nt be without one either.
  24. Lost my old one a few weeks ago and a friend sent me this- There is one best place to bury a good dog.If you bury him in this spot,he will come to you when you call-come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well remembered path, and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel, they shall not growl at him or resent his coming, for he belongs there. People may scoff at you,who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall, who hear no whimper, people who never really have had a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from the
  25. I work a bull/grey that is mostly white and her quarry does'nt see her until its too late, usually anyway.
