  1. As long as a dog isn't neutured before it is mature i.e usually around the 18 month old mark then it will have no effect whatsoever. I had my eldest bitch spayed at 4 years old and it hasn't changed her much at all. She isn't overweight, pretty fit actually, just watch what you feed and regular exersize, she is 8 1/2 years old now.
  2. Haha that is qaulity!! Certainly made me chuckle! Proper camo that!
  3. Thankyou for that advice, i haven't much meat to give this time of the year, but i am feeding james wellbeloved dry at the moment and an egg about twice a week and sardines which they love!
  4. thanks collie/grey the get plenty of excercise and work to keep them in tip top condition Just the way it should be, credit to both of you.
  5. The parents look absolute belters mate, in real fit condition, pups should be crackers, good luck with them!!
  6. Cheers all, everyones different i guess, never had probs feeding whole eggs so who knows lol. The mum is a sandy/smoky colour and the dad is albino samba, not that clued up on colours of ferrets tbh just as long as they work!!
  7. But would they not eat the whole egg in the wild?
  8. Looking very well taff, like the first pic the best!
  9. Cheers for that mate, i only held the one kit, i'll leave them be now til they're walking about. I know the basics of rearing a litter as i said it was 3 or 4 years ago i last had a litter, just thought i would ask for any tips people had that i might not have known about. Why only the yolk from an egg, mine get whole eggs about 3 times a week and never had any probs with them. What age are they able to leave the mum these days 10-12 weeks old??
  10. Good setup that, quite simiar to my own.
  11. Hi all, just went to feed and water the ferrets and found the first litter of kits born, haven't had a litter for about 3 or 4 years now so im well excited!! I think they are only a few hours old, the jill is really laid back though she wasn't bothered about me at all. There's 9 i think i counted, so so tiny i couldn't remember just how tiny they were. Has anyone any tips on the rearing of the litter? Any help will be most appreiciated.
  12. At the moment i have 3, a retired collie/grey a 3 1/2 year old bull x and an almost 6 month old bull x, go for it a little beddy/whippet won't take up much room!!
  13. You like him double then, cheers atb, Haha sorry mate, computer made me post twice!!
  14. Nice little pup you have there, how old?
  15. Personally i don't and wouldn't use one, i feel there is no need, the dogs are relatively fit in the summer with regular strolls and run abouts and in the winter the best fitness is regular work, but i see no harm with what you are doing as long as your dog sees the outside world aswell, remember that the treadmill only makes them trot/run in a straight line whereas free running allows them to twist and turn also.
  16. Nice pair of dogs there mate, they look well.
  17. Really like that black and white pup, all look well though.
  18. Really like that black and white pup, all look well though.
  19. Cracking pup you hav there, got a good nut on him! I hope he works well for you!
  20. never lifted a dog over a gate or fence in my life, even as pups,if im going into a field i know they are coming with me,its down to them how they do it,although i will say its dependant on the land you run obviously, which as i say for me,no need Of course it depends where you run them, as i said my land the dogs have to, they wouldn't fit under or through gates and the fences are mainly sheep netting and only a chihuahua would get through or a small pup! Not saying it's compulsary for all but a 60lb lurcher that couldn't jump would be useless for me!!
  21. All my dogs jump, i think it's important for them to be able to where i run them, sheep netting with barbed wire on top most of time, if they couldn't jump they wouldn't catch half as much as they have, if you get the dog confident enough with jumping accidents very rarely happen. I would get annoyed with haveing to lift a dog over every gate/fence, especially when carrying game back aswell.
  22. I think it takes both nature and nurture, working parent or parents and good rearing and training of the pup, i had a bitch from hancock at 11 weeks old and still have her at 8 1/2 years old, granted she wasn't the best worker i have come across but she was bloody decent for what she came out of (shite). She will still have a good go now!! Even if you had a pup from two of the best working parents in the country there's still a chance of it not working, just have to try your best and hope for the best outcome!!
  23. Good looking pair mate, jt50 what's wrong with them being for next season??!!
  24. Was a good walk in great company, glad we didn't have any wildlife jump out though!! All the dogs are cracking, any one of them would be welcome in my kennels. You had to get in at least one pic didn't you bird Here's a few more pics, didn't come out to well though not sure why. Video came out really blurred!!
