  1. Thats something thats always intrigued me.......if experts can trace what we evolved from have they got any idea what we will evolve into. There's a lot of hypotheses on what will come next but trying to predict genetic mutation is extremely difficult when it comes to a change in species. I reckon we'll be getting taller, larger skulls, we'll live longer, and... you're not going to like this one... we'll be getting browner in the skin, but that's only if we're able to continue on our present course. We're currently living in the Holocene extinction, or the 6th mass extinction event
  2. Don was able to negotiate a deal that would have caused a government shutdown on his 100th day, on the job. The deal now secures funding, for the government through September, although he's rolled back his promise to stop paying federal subsidies, regarding healthcare, and he's rolled back demands for a downpayment on the wall. $1.07 trillion for government funding... through September... that swamp sure is taking some draining.
  3. Nik asserted that we didn't have a significant number of black slaves in the UK. Considering the millions that passed through the ports I wondered if there was a technical definition of 'in' that I wasn't aware of. That period of history everyone was at it. I know that and I'm not favouring one demographic over another.
  4. So the millions passing through the ports don't count because they weren't technically in the UK? Is your problem with 'slavery' only with the whites that did it to blacks? As I have already said treating people like cattle (especially within their own ethnic groups) was the norm. It seems like it's special case when it was a black at the hands of a white yet the arabs sure get a pass as do the Africans who were up to their elbows in it. We also come to the question "what is slavery" how were the black slaves any different to the Brits forced to work down pits or mines for a pitta

  6. Are you related to Alistair Campbell by any chance?
  7. Pics and diagrams of the device are in the link the first post. It's basically a bag filled with synthetic amniotic fluid. It is attached to a machine, via a cord, that pumps in oxygen and nutrients and removes carbon dioxide. They've only tested it on premature lambs but they've been able to 'deliver' them and transfer them to breathing air.
  8. Seriously Nik?! Are you trying to say that Britain wasn't a major player in the slave trade? Profits from it helped finance the industrial revolution! EDIT: They reckon a million and a half were shipped from Liverpool alone.
  9. Flynn was paid tens of thousands of dollars for appearances made in Russia. He was also paid for lobbying on behalf of the Turkish government both of which require him to get official permission as he's an army officer. Permission that was neither sought nor granted. Last I heard Clinton was unemployed and is blaming everyone but herself for her failed election campaign. You've got to let that crazy lady go, mate. She's not relevant to any discussion on current US policy. They're all dirty! Even Donnie's following in Bill's footsteps by claiming immunity in a sexual harassment lawsuit... W
  10. We were the same although he had the tube removed very shortly afterwards. It is quite the learning curve! Once we were able to get 5ml of formula down him we never looked back! He didn't hasn't stopped growing! It can't be better this end, he's going to 17 be this year, and I have to work overtime to keep him in food. He's started weight training and plays a bit of basketball at school. He's now taller than me with a size 13 shoe! The only thing carried over is that he doesn't have toe nails, which is weird I know, but apparently they hadn't developed when he was born. I'm genuinely glad
  11. So your opposition to legalisation is recreational use/abuse?
  12. I was in a similar situation, mate. It's why the study struck a chord with me. My wife went into labour at 22 weeks. She was sutured and kept on bed rest for 7 weeks and she finally gave birth, via emergency caesarian at 29 weeks. My lad was 3lbs 4oz. He was in SBC for 5 weeks and he was discharged a week before Christmas. I totally feel for anyone that's had to sit in the ICU and go through that, especially when you know that a lot won't make it.
  13. It appears that Michael Flynn acted illegally taking payments from the Russians. Lack of an alternative healthcare plan could potentially defund CHIP when it decides whether to extend it's budget in September. This could leave 46 million chronically ill kids without healthcare.
  14. Fair comment. Would you be open to partial legalisation through some kind of prescription scheme?
  15. Okay, joking aside what would see as a realistic solution to the drug problem in the UK? Would you say that the current strategy of education and enforcement is adequate for a growing drug epidemic? Where else can we get the finances to continue with the current enforcement strategy?
  16. Referred to as a extra-uterine system this has been tested on premature lambs with promising results as they continue to develop outside of the natural environment. Pictures of the device are in the link. In the next 3-5 years they would like to test it on very premature human babies. Extreme prematurity is the leading cause of infant mortality in the US, resulting in over a 3rd of the deaths, and half of the cases of cerebral palsy. Advocates praise the results saying it could potentially save thousands of infant lives. Critics weigh up the ethical considerations, and potential fu
  17. I know it's bad form to play two in a row but it's a damn good album...
  18. It's from the album Moon Safari, Miss Lynn. Well worth the addition!
  19. If we followed his advice two thirds of the threads on this forum wouldn't exist.
  20. We're clearly not shouting loud enough.
