  1. Khans chin is comparable to Roy Jones, what on earth are you talking about....so apart from Khan being wobbled by a Limmond jab and getting knocked cold by Prescott....exactly what have you based this conclusion on about Khans chin ?....also,with your theory about Roy Jones, are we to believe that it is BECAUSE he lost speed he also lost punch resistance ?.....the clip you posted was the type of thing a kid would put together who has no real idea about the game of boxing, why didnt you go all the way and put Muhammed Ali on there seeing as Joe Frazier,Henry Cooper and a couple of others decked hi
  2. Not above comparison ...according to you Nigel Benn is above comparison yet now your on about Roy Jones ! Styles make fights mate, always has done and always will....every fighter alive picks the fights that will suit them stylistically its nothing new......sooner or later most fighters will have to face a fighter who does not suit them and thats the proving time.....but very often thats not till later in their career ( like hatton ) or in calzaghes case, never
  3. Is it f**k ....I didnt want the first foreigner let alone this one....the Hammers have a long tradition of bringing through young talent, like Zola did this prick will forget about youngsters and buy average foreign players instead.....besides which, what exactly has he done apart from take Portsmouth to a cup final....he aint good enough for West Ham mate.
  4. The same as 95 % of pro fighters gonetoearth....some have no power, some have no endurance, some are 1 dimensional...most fighters have faults and at top level its a chess match of avoiding certain styles no matter what fault any fighter has....Khans fault is a poor chin,it wont stop him doing exactly what you describe, the same as it never stopped any other fighter doing exactly what you describe.....the idea is to ride the wave as long as it lasts Khan will be no different.
  5. You're right, I followed Calzaghe's career, first time I seen him was against Delaney for the British title. I didn't believe he had what it takes to win the world title, until he put that great performance on against Eubank, he really won me over in that bout. Like you said though the many fights that followed that were a disgrace - Sobot the robot, Giminez, Thornberry, Veit (twice) Will "On Fire" McIntyre (or what ever it was he called himself), That Peurto Rican when Calzaghe came into the ring in a suit of armour (Can't remember his name), Mger something or other, Ashira, Salem, Bika, Manf
  6. Why are you making comparisons to all time great fighters ? nobody is saying Khan will ever be an all time great....from his third pro fight i had bets with about 20 people, even 4 or 5 off this forum that Khan would win a version of a world title inside 3 years...most people laughed at me !....what i also said was he would probably lose it soon after.....so as you can see i have never claimed he was a great fighter or ever would be.....your comparison to Hearns is not accurate,he had a far worse chin and far worse powers of recovery than virtually any other fighter of that magnitude.....again,
  7. Who said anything about Khan being untouchable, your bouncing from one extreme to another. You see,you wont remember as you was only a kid......but i remember people saying exactly the same about Nigel Benn went he went with Jimmy Tibbs....but he became so defensively sound that he didnt have to duck anyone even though his chin was still poor. And if you think Khan is the only fighter who will go through his career being protected then you are possibly as deluded as you sound.Joe Calzaghe will go down as one of the all time great British fighters, you wont find a more protected fighter than him
  8. What a ridiculous thing to say !!!.....so what your saying is the worlds greatest trainer Freddie Roach cannot possibly make improvements to Amir Khan as a boxer.... Jimmy Tibbs improved Nigel Benn as a complete boxer but Freddie Roach cant improve Amir Khan.....well what a fool Freddie Roach must be maybe he should listen to people like you rather than wasting his time training no hopers, makes you wonder why Manny Paquiao doesnt get himself a top trainer instead of a fool like Roach !
  9. [quote name='Attack Fell Terrier' date='06 June 2010 - 04:24 PM' The point is he fought who he could and who was about at the time. I know the bout with Jones Jnr didn't come off or with Toney (and I don't think he'd of beat either of them, infact I think he'd of been annihilated) but he would of fought anyone including either of them if he had the opportunity to do so, Khan on the other hand has no interest in fighting anyone other than those he knows he could easily beat if his career to date is anything to go by. How did you score the second bout between Benn and Eubank mate? Be
  10. funny as f**k !!.....im a proud white Englishman from East London who had to move away from East London to get away from the pakies....i am about as far from a khan/muslim fan as you could possibly get ! However....ive been around enough gyms over enough years to know a decent prospect and have a decent understanding of how the sport works..... Now,ive told you what both Benn and his trainer both said, but you wont have it. What will it take for you to accept that Benn had a poor chin and no defence and that was the reason for his loss to Watson.....they are the words Benn himself h
  11. Attack Fell Terrier....If i remember right Benn fought around 20 fights in 2 years never going past 4 rounds until he met Watson and was exposed. Khan fought around 18 fights in 3 years going the distance once i think before he met Prescott and was exposed. Both being excellent punchers who knocked out lesser opponents but were exposed defensively when they stepped up in class....both who went away and worked on those weaknesses and came back....of course you cant compare any further than that as Khans career is in progress, but up till now they are similar careers. Incidentally,i woul
  12. So Benn losing due to a lack of defence and Khan losing due to a lack of defense is somehow different in your book just because one was knocked spark out and the other wasnt..... I say it again,Benn has stated from his own mouth what ive told you,so has his former trainer.....but you know better. The fact both these fighters careers followed a similar path and were exposed in a similar way and how both went away and worked on their faults and came back is where the comparison stops..... Benn was a fighter in his heart and went on to the very top level of world boxing.....i have my dou
  13. Since when was benn/watson an " epic battle " ? it was a non title bout that turned out to be a big upset nothing more nothing less....no different to khan/prescott..... You seem to be fixated on this theory that Benn was not exposed by Watson but outshined in a tactical battle.....so why then did Benn immediately change his style of fighting ? why did he shortly after change trainers and concentrate on his defense ?....im not giving you thoughts im giving you facts !....Benn has said from his own mouth this was what happened, his trainer said this was what happened.... should we ignore thi
  14. Unlike those 2 immortals of the British ring Hatton and Calzaghe eh .....who were loved for fighting over the hill names ! Calzaghe was the biggest waste of talent ive ever seen and Hatton was the best conman ive ever seen yet they are both idolized by the British public.....how dare Khan pick fights I think your Benn argument has run out of steam a little as it doesnt take a huge boxing fan to see the likeness of their losses at the same stage of their career for the same reasons and it seems you wont even accept what comes from the horses mouth so we,ll have to leave that one !!!...
  15. Im not exactly blessed in the brains department and have absolutely no idea what erudite means but i like the sound of it i might use that one ....no doubt i,ll use it in the complete wrong context but we live and learn All the best
  16. Blan are you a barrister by day ?....you have a clever way of putting a spin on things to suit your argument..... How can you possibly say that the loss Benn suffered to Watson was any different to the loss Khan suffered to Prescott ?....they were both losses through a severe and glaring weakness.....and that weakness was a poor defence brought about by overconfidence......to say one was different to the other is just plain wrong....i hate to name drop as its muggy.....but Benns trainer in later years is a friend of mine since childhood so i did occasionally get to have a natter with Benn fro
  17. So apart from the fact they were both olympians what are the similarities between Khan and Harrison ? They have no similarity in fighting style and their pro careers have taken totally different routes....????....the step 1/2 you mention is simply professional boxing !!....a young prsopect is fed easy opponents until they either A, lose a fight....or B, reach a title.......normally A happens before B !....step 3 will happen regardless as no fighter fights tough fights every fight of their career ! You say Khan was exposed by Prescott but Benn was outclassed by Watson......you are just play
  18. Mate you cant seem to get away from this " comparing fighters " thing......we are not comparing who is better or whos this or that.....i started off by pointing out that Khans CAREER is taking an identical path to Benns.....as fighters they have similarities....not in quality but in styles/strengths/weaknesses.... The fact ive mentioned Tommy Hearns in the same sentance doesnt mean im comparing them for ability.....does your whole entire knowledge of the sport come down to who is best !!.... As regards the Benn/Watson fight i was around 30 feet away from Benn when he went down,Benn was
  19. These dogs are about as much Bull Terrier as i am !......when you cross a cross over many generations do you even have a breed.
  20. Your comparing the uncomparable......... So because Benn stood toe to toe with Mclellen that means he can take a shot......yet he got blown over by a jab from Michael Watson which finished the fight........the mistake you are making is putting too much emphasis on a fighters chin and not enough emphasis on a fighters defence.... When Benn lost to Mike Watson he had no defence whatsoever because after blowing everyone away he had never needed a defence, what did he do,he went away and worked on his defence,he still didnt have the greatest chin in the world but it was never exposed in the sa
  21. You mean why is he relevant...in a topic with his name heading it Benns chin was no better or no worse than Khans is....the fact you refer to Khan being knocked out by " a cab driver " and Benn standing up to Mclellens shots are the words of an archair boxing fan with all due respect.....it doesnt take the greatest fighter in the world to knock you out when your caught cold,Khan was caught cold because he had no defence not because he had a glass jaw.... Benn has admitted many times he couldnt take a punch....and i dont think there can be any doubt as to Hearns,i remember the referee te
  22. I remember everyone saying almost exactly the same as that word for word in the early part of Benns career,in fact the only fighter around at that time who had possibly a worse chin than Benn at world level was Tommy Hearns, who didnt do too bad for a glass chinned fighter either.
  23. Nobody in todays times would get away with what Benn did in the first few years of his career,he fought absolute no hopers,Benns manager at that time was Burt Mcarthy who was a buiseness man not a boxing manager,he financed Benns early career and wanted money back on his investment,Benn didnt fight a live opponent until Watson,if i remember right he fought Darren Hobson who was vaguely decent. The stage of career Khan is at now is the stage Benn was at when he beat Barkley,he had come back from a defeat, won a world title and defended it.....in my opinion a Khan fight with a Timothy Bradley
  24. June is a winter month in South Africa, not like we know winter of course but it wont be scorching anyway. Im inclined to agree the Argies are always there or there abouts.
  25. It wasnt a debate as to who the better fighter was....i was simply saying that at the stage of his career Khan is at now,Nigel Benn was exatly the same at that stage of his.....an unexpected defeat,a suspect chin a reputation as a banger, and a trip over the pond to make him a better allround fighter, their careers are mirror images of each other......im not for one minute trying to suggest Khan is or ever will be as good a fighter as Benn was....im a big Benn fan,he was from my manor at a time when i was around a few gyms myself and he was a likeable lad so im not putting him down at all.....he
