In medieval times red kites were like the sea gulls of today....they were common in towns and cities. They are scavengers not hunters. If they are hunting it can be worms and small stuff so they are suited to living around man. I think that's right anyway.....we don't really get em up here so I probably just made that up.

Do you see them dead on roads if they are scavenging on road kill and get hit themselves or are they too clever for that?

I've seen two round here in 20 years, both high and passing through.

I see plenty on the M11 around Stansted theres a stretch of about 2 miles where i counted i think it was 6 Red Kites and 5 Fallow Deer roadkill in various states of ruin the other day its another one of the wildlife mysteries i was tempted to ask you's all about......it was like some sort of suicide pact had taken place as they definitely wasnt there a couple days previous.

    Gigrin farm, Rhayader.

Went there a couple of times, many years ago.

    Elan Valley, mid Wales.

    @gnasher16

The visitor centre, the reservoirs etc, are  beautiful places to visit, mate, but it's a fair old drive, about 200 miles, from your neck of the woods.

Yep been there a few times mate as im up in mid Wales a few times per year.....fascinating when they sling all the grub down you see they're quite a powerful bird.

Oh so theres no complicated eco reason then i was hoping it might have something to do with concreting them out of the countryside so i could add it to my ammo against the lefties

Ive had the bins out watching them plenty of times but cant get any decent pics with my crappy camera, fascinating to watch though.....thanks for explaining chaps

  3. Might be at risk of getting a raspberry blown at me here but if you dont ask you dont find out.

Im noticing as the years go by ( and this year in particular ) how Red Kites are getting closer and closer to my home and i live 2 minutes from one of the busiest motorways in Europe surrounding one of the most highly populated capital cities in Europe.....5,6 years ago even we never saw one, like ever......now just stood in my garden i see them virtually every day in decent numbers ......how does that work, whats the reasons for it and does it have any connection to over population ( human ) and concreting over what used to be rural areas.

Apart from wanting to know from a general interest in wildlife point of view i also want to have some solid info to throw at the dopey lefty idiots i know

I know he fought Ricky Burns in an exhibition thing last year, which I thought was meant to be a farewell and thanks to the fans thing for two lads from the West of Scotland. Just read he was training for another bout next month. Apparently had a seizure at the wheel of a car. Hopefully not linked to him still fighting but wouldn’t be surprised. Sad that some of these old fighters don’t know how to stop for the good of their health.

Theres a lot of studies on head trauma being done at the moment personally i dont think fight sports have much more than a generation or two left......even heading the ball in football theres a big furore about that......this over protection of peoples rights will kill certain sports in time im sure of it.

Yes, I know what he meant by "bulldog" I was just being silly saying KC bulldog.

Dillinger was the Stafford, and I think I did get them confused. Guvnor was around the same era, and I'm sure he went up against one of the names about at the time, and came up short...as you say, a long time ago...😉

    Yokel

Dillinger course it was....his owner used to walk that dog round the estate like he was the local celebrity ( the dog not him )  all the little kids used to jump about petting this scarred up little dog there was no secrets in Rotherhithe back then

Sad news just announced that former British and Commonwealth light welter champ Willie Limond has died aged only 45. I was in a boozer in Wales having just completed the 3 peaks challenge the night he fought Khan. Put him on the floor but didn’t have quite enough to put him away. Brave fighter and gone far too young. RIP champ.

Weird that the ol woman just shouted out less than a minute ago " do you know who Willie Limond is ".......

Shame that though i was told a while back he was preparing for a fight of some description,i cant imagine that would of been a good idea.....RIP anyway, good fighter.

I think technology has moved on ,this message board format is very limited on what you can do on it...personally I don't trust Facebook or Instagram but discord is great and its capabilities are endless,  you can stream live  video straight into the voice channel so you can all be having a laugh and bants while watching fury punch himself in the face for example lol

All sounds a bit odd to me although technology isnt my thing granted, it sounds the sort of thing people without friends do !.....this message board caper is just perfect its about as close as i want to be to complete strangers

I bit my tongue on this post, I assumed he was talking about KC bulldogs 😁 it's laughable, but as long as he was happy with the dog I s'pose....re: pure ebts being matched, the only one I can think of was "Carl's Guvnor" pretty sure his claim to fame was losing against tug! But I may have remembered wrong. They're a "rough and tumble" dog at best, and to claim any were anywhere near "as game as any bulldog" would hint to me the person making the claim has never seen a true, gamebred bulldog going about it's business!...j.m.h.o...

    Yokel

I just presumed the fact that he'd used the words " game " and " bulldog " in the same sentence he was referring to Apbt....or not ?

Maybe its one of them where folks use certain terms in the wrong context but i think when you've seen genuine gameness up close to the point it makes you want to sob your little heart out you tend to get protective of the term.

Wasnt it the black Stafford from South London who lost to Tug the dogs name escapes me .....Guvnor ive heard of just cant remember now its all so long ago

Parker exposed all his weaknesses but didn't have the power to stop him...Zhang is a decent enough boxer and has some power, could be a nightmare for Wilder

Personally i think theres plenty of top heavyweights, even fringe world level heavyweights who would be a nightmare for Wilder.

  10. Due to circumstances beyond my control im not allowed to travel outside Europe  so in recent years we try to just potter about the nicest parts of Greece last year we did a little private yacht charter thing between myself and some close friends and wives etc it took us all around different islands and just stayed until we got bored and moved on....the captain was a really interesting chap who does 3 trips per year around the world on the Salina Tanker so we've got him and his crew booked again this year,we did it for too long last year and ended up with the last few weeks listening to women moaning so will have a shorter trip this year but really looking forward to it.....a couple of little jaunts to Cyprus and Rhodes later in the year will see us right for a summer of sun and sea.

it was a great fight 2 class fighters but ali wanted to stop frazier wanted to carry on worse for wear

you can hear him saying it

But he didnt....ive seen plenty of fighters want to quit but then get talked around by their corner....its what they're there for.

Nigel Benn asked to be pulled out against Mclellend and went on to win an absolute dog fight,it happens.

  12. It could be hunting with dogs, racing with dogs, fighting, football or a hundred other subjects of basic common interest to men of similar ilk, this one just happens to be hunting but id imagine you could go on any forum of those interests and see similar general dialogue.

No, fair shout mate, I thought you was suggesting that physicality should play no part in football and I just didn’t agree with that.

I personally don’t think you can compare contact to non contact myself.

I agree that the speed and physicality of some tackles just don’t come over on the tele, and tele is most peoples connection to the game.

All i really meant was most of what some people describe as players being fairies is just pure gamesmanship, you know all that anyway

One yr in bodrum market,my mrs offered £5 sterling for a Barcelona football kit for my lad...she said its a snide...all its worth is £5😆

She was ushered out the shop pronto🤣

Infairness everytime ive been,we booked a boat trip that takes you to that big market..you tell them no,and they leave you alone...even taken faulty clothing back the next yr...and they have replaced it👍

I dont mind the Turkish tbh...they go out of their way to look after the kids, foods decent and always plenty to do there 👍

Yeah i dont mind the Turks they're normally up for a giggle ive had some good laughs at that market i remember a few years back me and the mrs went with my pal and his wife they was all doing a deal for something or other while i was looking on another stall.....whatever the price was i forget say 50 euros the Turk had said to my mate " ok 50 Euro's and i kiss the lady "......im a horrible looking c**t at the best of times and my mate pointed towards me and said " theres her husband you better ask him ".....the Turk says " ok 40 Euros " .....its a shithole all around that market but its just a good lighthearted fun place to visit.....good family orientated people for the most part as well.

Don’t agree with that mate, contact sport is, well, contact !

It gives so many good life lessons about physical and mental robustness….I think watering that down is criminal personally and I don’t blame people one little bit for thinking someone who got a shoulder barge is a minge for rolling around like they have been killed.

Just get up you c**ts, if they want ping pong rules then they should go and play that.

Come on mate you've played sport, nobody likes the amount of simulation/cheating thats in the game but you'd have to be naive as f**k to think every footballer that falls over rolling around is a delicate little mincer......a cheat yes.

And lets not pretend it didnt happen in the good old days when men were men 🙄its the nature of top level sport to try and get an edge over an opponent.....if you wanted to give a young lad " life lessons about physical and mental robustness " as you say then you wouldnt take him anywhere near elite level sport you'd take him down his local boys club where that type of gamesmanship/cheating doesnt exist.

I kind of skipped over this as it didnt seem to warrant a reply but after reading it again f**k me what a funny world you must live in

Probably the most brutal and punishing fight in the history of the sport and you're calling one of them a cur for crying out loud

keep them at distance and tie up on inside has always been used by taller fighters mate

Are we actually going to pretend that Fury just " ties up on the inside " then ?.....what would he gain from doing that ?

Fury doesnt " tie up " he mauls......he doesnt " hold " he drags his weight down.

Dont be afraid to say it he does these things for a reason and it works.

Regards the Ali/Frazier bouts you are wrong, but such iconic fights just dont belong in a conversation about Tyson Fury sorry.

As a spectacle it was amazing, but neither manager will like what they saw, it was crazy, schoolboy style... Great game though .. wish there was more like it, reminded me of the Keegan Newcastle side and some of their games at that time...

Was it the Liverpool/Newcastle 4 - 3 when Collymore scored the winner and Keegan just put his head in his hands....think that went down as one of the greatest games in Premier League history didnt it......wouldnt say that game tonight was far off.
