  1. 3mm line is as much use as a fart in a sand storm. It is just too heavy, the diameter of the twine means nothing really. The weight of the twine can make a hell of a difference to how well a net works. The same as everyone else, the first nets I bought came with large diameter head and foot lines. The problem with those lines is that they are heavy and cause the net to sag between the uprights. That changes the dynamics of how the nets work, instead of having an even bag along the length of the net between the uprights you have areas of excess bag and areas of very little bag. This in turn
  2. If you feed them before handling, they will not be so boisterous with a full belly. TC
  3. Lurcher1 Try to remember back when you first started. You have to learn from your mistakes. Belive it or not my first working dog when I was 12 was a boxer, the family pet, she had a nose on here that could track anything, the years of learning she gave me was invaluable to my hunting education. Either the lad has got the hunting bug or he hasn't and will be gone in a couple of weeks. I sincerley hope he has, as the dog will educate him no end. To my thoughts, there is nothing more off putting than reading of the large numbers of rabbits caught by lurchers on here. If you look at t
  4. Lurcher1, What makes you think the lurcher 'experts' on THL are of a high standard? I started hunting with a lurcher around 1978 and have never coursed or taken a deer or fox with them. Up untill the ban I would take one hare a year for my own use. I can tell you now, no one has had more pleasure out of seeing their dogs work, many will have matched it and they are the ones that derive pleasure from seeing a dog work. The killing of an animal to be honest leaves me cold, I get no pleasure from it at all, it is just a job that has to be done. A dog should be worked within it's capab
  5. Not really sure, so have edited my post to cover either eventuality. TC
  6. Just had a little think. (God it hurts.) This person has never hunted before in their life. It probably had never even entered their head. Yet they get a dog that is capable of hunting (all-be-it in a limited capacity due to it's size.) When all of a sudden, they like what the dog does, they can see what most of us take for granted, the beauty of a dog running on quarry and they want to further their education. It will not matter if the dog does not rake up great numbers, or be the best lamping dog this side of the North sea. They simply want to enjoy watching their dog work. so from a
  7. The good guys have won!!!!! This guy? has got what he asked for, advice on working his dog. No matter what the breed, the dog has the instincts there, so why not utilise them? Well done to the sane minority. And well done to the OP for not giving in to the bullies, and giving as good as they got. TC
  8. Simple answer is don't use the net if it means that much to you. Nets get damaged all the time, they are a tool to be used. In that use they get damaged rabbits chewing the bottom line, chewing holes in the netting. As has been mentioned hedgehogs and other creatures of the night do find their way into the net, some will burst their way out, others have to be cut out. The best tip I can give you is learn how to repair them, cos as sure as eggs is eggs you will need the skill at some point. TC
  9. Basically the same way as this post. Except I have not seen it done with a blender. And instead of putting a hair dryer on it, it was slowly baked in an oven. If I remember correctly block salt had to be used as table salt has additives in it. And it did not last as well, as the eggs are collected in late November early December.
  10. Here in Wales it is called 'jam' The only problem is that the eggs have to be ripe to make it. And where do you get ripe salmon eggs from? TC
  11. Feck me!! There really are some people who should not be allowed near a computer. Or near other people on the tinter web, they have an opinion, and rightly so, but are not willing for any one else to have a different opinion than thiers. To the detractors and knit-pickers. FFS grow up will you!! Or do you derive some kind of perverted pleasure from making a fool out of yourselves. You may have a difference of opinion as to what what constitutes a good dog. We all have our own ideas, ( well you should) Just because some one has a different opinion to yourselves, it does not make the
  12. That seems a good idea, I wonder where you got the idea from?
  13. There should be, one is meant to catch fish and the other is meant to catch rabbits. I use square meshed trammels for rabbits. They catch rabbits no matter which side of the net the rabbit enters. Some people on here who work on their own swear by the square meshed trammel. TC
  14. 7 out of 10. Pro's. Easy to set out, fairly quick to set out, as long as the net is set up right the bags is tied in every 5 yards or however many yards your pegs are set at. As long as you can walk backwards you can set a net. Con's The net is great on football fields as soon as there is any undulation in the land that does not coincide with the placement of the pegs you will either have a gap under the net or the headline touching the ground. Without stabalisers on the end of the net the pegs are fond of falling over when a rabbit hits the net. They hurt your back when you ar
  15. He was relocated less than two miles from where I live with a new identity and house. It was only after he was arrested that who he was came to light. Funnily enough nothing was ever known of the court case, it was reported in the local paper that he had been arrested, since then nothing. TC
  16. Fact 1 There has been a body found, as yet unidentified. Fact 2 No one has been charged. Fact 3 Three people have been arrested. Fact 4 Untill a cause of death is established, no one will be charged with the childs murder. So while I agree with most of the sentiments spouted re child killers and molesters. Remember you are innocent untill proven guilty. Once proven guilty they should feel the full weight of the law. (Although that does seem the easy option for them) TC
  17. Estima or Cara boiled slowly mash the potatoes first then add butter and mash till they are smooth, then add double cream and mash till they are the consistancy that you want. TC
  18. Another way I like pigeon is to stuff the breasts with a garlic and herb stuffing cover in breadcrumbs and cook in the oven. First off take your breasts and make a pocket in them with a small knife the pocket should be big enough to get your thumb in. Once you have done that make the stuffing, I used two slices of wholemeal bread one medium red onion some fresh parsley, dried mixed herbs and three coves of garlic. Stuff the breasts with the stuffing mix. Coat the stuffed breasts with seasoned flour dip in egg and coat with breadcrumbs. I then sprayed the
  19. Pigeon Schnitzels and a crispy cheese and leek bake. First butterfly your pigeon breasts. Tendorise the breasts and add a Schwarts all seasoning. Next bread crumb the breasts and place in the fridge for at least half an hour. Boil up some leeks and add a cheese sauce over them. Then cover the sauce with two packs of crisps crunched up. Then cover the top of the crisps with grated mozzarella cheese and bake in a moderate oven till the cheese browns and crisps up on the top. While the bake is in the oven, fry your schnitzels in a hot pan for
  20. Seen this gentleman this morning, not a very good close up, more of a close-ish up. Buff tip. TC
  21. told the vet that and he told me i wont win From what you have said it seems it is a memeber of his staff that has pardon the pun made a balls up. Ulitmately he is responsible. Go and see a solicitor you can get half an hour free with most solicitors. They will tell you if they can win your case or not. He is not likelyto tell you that you would win. It is neglegence on the part of who ever booked the ferret in. TC

  23. Solicitors letter should sort it out. And don't forget the solicitors fee's. TC
  24. When I had the two allotments, I found the best sellers were the runner beans and bunches of beetroot. I used to put up 200 canes of runner beans (enorma) and around 500 beetroot plants ( Pablo F1). I sold them to a small shop and paid my rent and seed bills for the year. Funnily enough I used D T Brown as well and could not fault them. I would order for a few plot holders and they would pack the seeds seperately for each order. That tunnel is really taking shape with you. Are you using it just for starting off plants? TC
