hily replied to old timer123's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
will you post the full address of the place you sent your scope as i want to post a one of to them for repair and we will see if they come up with the same service thanks dave. -
thats a long day feed bill must be big! Danw coming back to the original post in your opinion what's has the greatest influence on the dogs ability to gain stamina the lack of field trial winners in the line or the way you bring a dog on NATURE or NURTURE.

getting a spaniel work fit so that it will go all day is not easy the dog needs to be built for the task to start with and unless he can work the dog for prolonged periods regularly the dog's stamina will never increase just getting out twice a week through the season isnt' enough (I would bet by the mid season the dog is finding it easier though) It is not criticism though folks commit the time they have available and not every one can spend day in day out working their dogs. thanks for your take on this but should have made it clear that the dogs are shot over all year(rabbits )not j

How many days a week do you work them? as many as i can but not as many as i would like average twice a weekl just noticed your edit hope thats not me you'r on about.

noticed a few threads have stated that a spaniel with lots of red in its pedigree won,t be able to work all day .Now it depends on what sort of a day it is.If its beating i can expect my ess to work with drive all day thats a day with possibly 6 to 8 drives and beaters/dogs transported to there starting positions with a break for lunch of approx an hour.So although your out all day the dog is'nt consantly hunting. Picking up i do'nt do but know that most folk who do use more than one dog many have a small pack to share the work. This is what i am getting at if you use a dog on a days rough s

at''s good that you write and tell about the ups and the downs of the day it gives folk like me a boost to know that not everyone has the perfect gundog. honest post warts an all.

Sprockers what is the benefit of the cross?
hily replied to stroller's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
this cross has'nt been used in any great numbers or around long enough to be able to have any real comparisons made with ess or cocker it seams to me that now and again they become the flavour of the month at the moment crosses are out and cockers are inn well thats how it seems in my neck of the woods .so my opinion based on the crosses i have seen is they work but as with all dogs only as good as the person who trains and handles them .would be interesting to see how a cross turned out if a trainer like openshaw took one or two in hand. -
is it me or has anyone els noticed that the adds on tv are using grays in there commercials or am i just paranoid

thinking of buying an offlicense in the english side of the scottish borders .

nice of you to share your's and max's day with others helps folk understand the partnership/bond you get when working with a dog. a.t.b.

push them out with ferrets then newspaper soaked with diesel down the hole kept them above ground for a few days used to work for us might be better just to bolt them if you'v got a pal with ferrets
-
john it depends on the hunting area if its just sets then you won't get a lot, if its hedge rows you may be able to get a few more if its windy with rabbits sheltering behind hedges and the wind taken the sound of the shot away to have a day shooting a good bag then working spanials over a good size ground with lots of rough areas and reeds white grasses etc is hard to beat .or you could bolt the rabbits with ferrets or even try stinking them out.lots of ways to control these pests as i say it realy depends on location a.t.b.

a little bit of advice bloodlines will give you an indication of how the dog will turn out = size stamina temperament colour etc. TRAINER TRAINING will give you a dog that will be good to work with don't get it wrong its not the dog that shows you up its you believe me been there and got the Tshirt.Dont give youself a time scale to work to or you'l only wind your self up and probably the dog aswell, shooting over it at 18 months can be done but you should only start to work the dog when its ready.don't fall into the trap of thinking its a dog from good gundog bloodlines so it should know wha

help sending scope to simmons for mending
hily replied to old timer123's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
i had no joy with the co. in blackpool and just hit a brickwall when trying to find a UK dealership for simmons when i visited the U.S.website they did not list the UK so the scope i wanted to have repaired under the simmons warranty is still with me boxed up but no address to send it to . if you get a result i would be gratefull if you let me have the information so i can have my scope fixed but if you don't get anyone in this country to do the job under warranty we should warn anyone who is thinking of buying simmons to make sure simmons will honuor the LIFETIME WARRANTY as this is a major -
Bollocks.......skinned my arse, for 1, why would someone leave something in a ditch skin off and 2, how much f*****g time did they have on their hands to do all this skinning in the field? Your looking for a row, shooting starts soon so it will be time to go and blather nonsense in the beaters hut which is the best place for it i have posted exactly what i have seen the carcuses i saw in FEB and i thought of posting about it then as a simllar thing happened only a few miles away in a place that is a wildlife site called linton ponds this caused a lot of anti feelings throu the newspap

Why would anyone skin and gut two roe......... then leave the carcasses in a ditch ??? Doesn't make sense ...... Cheers. perhaps very nearly caught in the act ?
-
i meant rambler with dog them wankers think they can go anywhere, then when their on roads they walk 3 abreast and wont get in like those tossers on the racing bikes in lycra. if running dog cant clear fence its not much use is it. i know what you'r saying just me trying to be sarky but as a have said the fence borders the footpath so can't see any reason for ramblers also near opencast mine so not realy the area for rambling
-
fact not my land or permission just where i walk the dogs fact lots of damage to arses and throats fact yep i'am a prick so SHIT did'nt want to add that one.AND ON A PERSONAL NOTE FOR LITTLETIMY ye we had loads of money dad pitman mam barmaid but she did have two jobs at one time .
-
oooh a raw nerve seriously thow i know most like to leave no trace and respect the land and the quarry but this is in exactly the same place i came accross two roe skinned and gutted and left in the ditch right next to a footpath not a good advert for any fieldsport so if you are pi~~~d at my remarks then sorry as you must be the good guys .but i know what i see and you must a least acknowledge the fact that we have some proper tits working these fields
-
the above atitude for other folks property explains why a lot of genuine longdog men can't get permission to run dogs .as for ramblers one of them must have been only about two foot tall to use the hole in the fence
