No Saluki and sloughi have separate genetic lines. The moors invaded Spain and found Galgos at which point there is likely to have been some swapping of dogs but the Galgos were famous well before the moors invaded so most likely they were taken back to North Africa and mixed with the local sighthound, the Sloughi, hence the close genetic ties. "General Results 1) Sighthounds and Primitives compared to non sighthound (Affenpinscher) When compared to a non Sighthound breed such as the Affenpinscher, all the Sighthounds and Primitives in this study shared more ge

The genetics are what they are, the Moroccans ruled are large part of Spain for centuries hence Galgos and Sloughis being closely related.
-
That's south America, they have a lot of lurchers out there.
-
Genetic studies have shown that the Sloughi is more closely related to the Galgo than the saluki?
-
yes but the Galgos do 3 out of 3 without the saluki

The Spanish coursers I've asked have felt that the Iberian hare runs better than the European in the north of Spain where they have both types.

if it was bred from working stock it would have been a hard type.

The world is becoming a smaller place which is allowing breeds to travel, the saluki is used in South America to breed into their working dogs, although they're still importing Galgo in the main, creating another galgo/greyhound/saluki type although there is a fair bit of collie in them as well, a good few show merle coats. As I say the world is getting smaller, these days I can get an invite to go to North Africa to see their dogs run or a question from Argentina about how i condition my dogs or from Uruguay about how to treat an injury or a question from a coursing man from the UK on how t

A Galgo X Saluki. I don’t know any rich Arabs with saluki kennels but through my work I do have a few contacts with less well set up people from North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula through a shared interest in sighthounds. I must say i’ve found it interesting to see the dogs they use to work out there. They have a love of the saluki in an aesthetic way and because of the history but very few run pure salukis; rather they run Saluki type that is laced with blood from Galgos and Greyhounds for smaller game, starting on Jerboa then onto Hares and they use Sloughi types for bigger game, fo

i will at some point but it will be a Spanish one?.

I did consider putting Birds Buck over a galgo as no one was using him as a stud and it seemed a shame, recon he would bring a lot to a racy type of lurcher for those wanting something with a bit of strength but plenty of brain, but worried about homing all the pups so decided against it

I was 8 years old and took what i was given lol, learnt a lot from it but seeing it get straight lined was heart breaking for a young lad and the bitch. By the time I was 13 i was looking for something with a bit more versatility.

I owned my 1st and last 1st cross about 50 years ago and it put me off, a collie whippet, just didn't have the pace I wanted.
-
Beddy/grey, Alsatian/grey or whippet/greyhound maybe but not sure about 1st crosses in truth, outside of pure's, all the decent dogs I've owned have been 2nd crosses. Something like a grew over a Galgo to get a nippy lamper with a bit of extra stamina or on reflection just a GalgoxGalgo??

Don't think he has bred a litter in a few years and its been a long time since he worked a dog, i knew him back in the 80's and he didn't work them then, I've mentioned before he wanted to use on of mine as a stud but wouldn't come out lamping or even daytime for a wander with one of his. Most sighthound crosses will make a worker to some degree and that's about it for the dogs he bred, at least from the 80's, talked the talk but didn't walk it.

We have a vaccine for some cancers, HPV and Heb B, and can cure many but there are many many types of cancer, around 200 different diseases come under the term cancer, and alas what works for one doesn't for another so there will never be a "cure for cancer" per se as its not a single entity.. Best I've owned was a bull/grey x wheaten/grey, lightly built for the breeding but a head like a hyaena, generally tougher it got the more he liked it, carried him home a couple of times after a tough night but he'd have run again if I let him. I've taken stuff with my version of coursing types, the bigger one was alright but didn't have the physicality of the bull cross bite and hold. The smaller ones are excellent on smaller stuff but on bigger stuff, unless your taking youngsters, a dog needs some physical power to hold. If I wanted a deer dog for bigger stuff rather than an allrounder
