  3. Absolutely trev, with the vast amount of ground we go on you could waste a lot of time netting empty warrens up without a marking dog,
  4. Iv got a lurcher who marks for me,he just has to either see rabbits going to ground or just take the chance something is at home
  5. Not 1 in young, we were on the tops though not low ground

For the first time this season I questioned my sanity as the alarm went off at 430 ( on a Sunday morning) nevertheless a quick brew and bowl of porridge and I was off up the motorway to pick my mate up. We had been asked to have a look at this place by the keeper as there was a lot of rabbits about, once we reached we’re we could go no further off we set on foot, there were rabbits bouncing about everywhere, the first sett produced 4 then a steady couple of 3s soon had me up to 10, and only one dig of 6” things were looking to be in my favour for once, Clear sky’s and a gentle breeze, I was up

This time last week we were battling in the snow to find occupied warrens today was like a spring day, just a gental wind and sunshine, unfortunately the rabbits didn’t want to cooperate resulting in 7digs, luckily nothing deeper than a foot at most with two Bolts making it 9, things were slow going, then a quick bolt making 10, my mate had 6, we had covered this perticular piece of ground now so in the truck to another little piece, things were different here with 8 bolts then a final dig making my total 19, my mate had picked another 5 up making our final bag 30, I was watching a pair of rab

With the thermometer reading -5 in the truck we knew on the tops it would be fresh to say the least, my plan was to carry on were I left off last week, so on my way through the snow covered ground I trudged, Nell was soon marking an occupied Warren I set the longnet were I thought the holes could be, the snow had covered most of them, suddenly contact was heard and and explosion of snow, rabbit number 1 was out but didn’t get far with Nell making an easy catch, this was how most of the day went, Nell making it look easy on the snow, with the odd dig thrown in, once through the frozen crust it

As we sat in the truck getting our kit sorted out the wind was howling round us, once sorted off we went, it was bitter cold too, it wasn’t long before the rabbits were on the move, some just carried on over the heather and away but 2 dropped to ground, nell confirmed what I saw with a mark, all 100 yards of long net was soon out and round, 2 bolted quickly then all went quite, apart from the constant wind, out with the box and a couple of digs later saw a few more added to the tally, I was missing one of my albino Jill’s, I stared at were I put her in and ended up at the other end of the Warr
